For Sale - 1990 Honda Prelude 2.0 EX AUTO

Hey guys, needs are as the devil drives and that's why this is for sale. I've not even owned it for very long but I have a car restoration business now and well.. you can't exactly fit an engine and gearbox in the back of this thing. So I need a work truck, no ifs or buts. Few places around here are interested in a part ex as they're not even sure what they're looking at when I roll up in the Honda, one even thought it was a Rover (how??) because if its relative obscurity and kind-of-maybe-sorta rarity.

Looking for £1500 for it, after doing my research this seems to be the going rate for this model with this particular twin carb and auto box setup which is very uncommon compared to the much more common fuel injection models. This is a fair price and it means I won't be making any profit on it after what I've spent to fix it and do it up, it means I'll pretty much break even.

Mileage is close to 70k as it belonged to an old giffer who barely used it before I bought it. I think the exact figure is around 69,700. Taxed until the end of the year and MOT'ed until the end of August.

Good Points

  • Mechanically sound and runs perfectly with no observed oil leaks or consumption.
  • Auto box with working kick down and sports/second gear modes working perfectly.
  • All vacuum hoses replaced with new.
  • Magnecore KV85 leads fitted.
  • Engine routinely serviced, new plugs, rotor arm, fluids, etc.
  • Never ragged and any passenger who asked me to was summarily slapped.
  • New £300 Sony head unit fitted (which I cannot take with me due to most modern trucks having specific systems of their own).
  • New £300 worth of 6 inch speakers fitted front and back.
  • Sub-woofer cables fitted but never got around to selecting a woofer, so it's just plug-and-play if you get one.
  • Underside steam cleaned, de-rusted and professionally under sealed.
  • Rear arches cut out, replaced and repainted. No rust whatsoever now.
  • Brand new front brake calipers and brand new pads all round.
  • Brand new fitted velour carpets front and back.
  • Brand new wipers all round.
  • Interior is immaculate.

Bad Points

  • Scratch on the drivers side front wing.
  • Small patch missing from the window rubber, drivers side door, however this seems like a superfluous seal as no water ever ingresses and it's one of the easiest seals to replace. I just don't have any contacts for parts and never got around to it as it was never a problem.
  • Rear window washer is blocked and thus disconnected from the main bottle. Fairly easy fix, remove the old blocked line and run a new line down inside the door, but again something I've just not got around to doing.

I really don't want to sell it because it's so unusual and I've never seen another one pass me while driving it. I've also done a lot of work on it and it's become something of my baby. But strapping engines and gearboxes to the roof simply won't work and while the large boot is happy to accept travel bags and skis and whatnot.. it just doesn't fit toolboxes and car parts. I can't continue to use this as my daily work car without risking some twat work colleague deciding they can fit something large and heavy in it and looking surprised when the rear wheels completely buckle.

Not for me, but I think you deserve at least one reply, so here one is.

New pics uploaded, as promised.

Volksangyl told me I might not get many bites as for sales here are generally bargains needing a good home, but this is fairly rare* so thought I would offer it here first.

I think Angyl's spot on. Far too nice for the likes of us! Nice to see one that's been well looked after though. GLWTS.

Lovely car and these are a hoot to drive. I had an earlier one, still auto and carb'ed. This is about a grand too dear for the likes of most of us lot on here though  :D

Agreed^

Very lovely, but very expensive*

* while still probably being an accurate eBay valuation.

Something else I don't know anything about, but Setright seemed to think that they were superb.

'a prelude to what?' he asked

I like these a lot and that looks very nice, wouldn't have thought it was that expensive either. Still, I've got neither space nor spare cash at the moment and so for that reason, GLWS etc.

These are splendid cars and this deserves to find a buyer

That's a lovely example of a great and underrated car.  If I were in the market for a new motor, this would be top of my list.  However, I'm not and for that reason, I'm out.  GLWS, it deserves to find a good home.

That's just lovely. I do like these and the later ones a lot. Perhaps more a genuine classic car though in the fine condition its in.
