Practical Classics & CAR magazines for sale...

I have a pile of Practical Classics magazines, from September 2006 to September 2010 inclusive - missing 01/07, 12/07 and 07/10 if any from that era tickles your fancy. All in good nick, maybe the odd crossword done here & there but perfectly readable.

Let's say a quid plus £1.50 P&P each.

2006

Also a few CAR magazines from my duplicates pile, a bit rarer so £2.00 a piece plus the same £1.50 P&P.

Again, perfectly readable but being 25-40 years old and made from untreated paper some of the pages are a wee bit yellow round the edges and there may be the odd slight wear & tear.

April & July 1970

January, February, March, April, May & August 1972

Any takers?

Happy to do a deal on job lots of the Practical Classics ones (but not the CAR ones, sorry, they fetch real money on Ebay) although the postage will still be quite pricey.

Or alternatively I could bring them along to the Scotoshite meet up on Wednesday if any of the locals were interested, save on P&P. 8)

Can I take the 'Citroen SM' and 'American disaster' CAR mags, please?

Posted

The 1972 and remaining '73 CARs, please. I will need postage.

Posted

Jings, they didn't last long, did they?

Just leaves the July '70 (Aston Martin cover) and October & November 85 (Rover '600' and Porsche 924 covers) left.

The Rover one in particular is quite a good feature on Project XX, which of course became the 800.

I'll PM everyone later (dinner awaits) confirming orders & PP details and I'll figure out a postage cost for your bundle too Wat.

Ah, gwan then - stick it with my other two...

I'll have the remaining '85 ones if they're still available. (As long as you don't need the money before Wednesday - payday)

Good choice.

The October 1985 Rover XX scoop was the first CAR magazine I bought - for some reason I'd never heard of it before. I can still remember vividly the day I got it home and read it with increasing amazement at the quality of the writing, photography and industry insight. It was a revelation. Such a shame there's nothing like it now (although C&SC has some nice pictures).

If anybody fails to proceed vis a vis the Rover "600" issue; please hit me up.

These older issues are so much more interesting than current stuff, up to and including the adverts.

OK, so that's all the CAR ones gone, PMs have been sent out to various bods confirming details, so as soon as I get everyone's replies I'll get them all off in the post. :D

Sure I can't interest anyone in some Practical Classics ones?

I think you have to include a free fiver in each copy in order to get rid of old PC's, like a sort of used tyre disposal fee

OK, that's all the CAR ones spoken for and everyone who has paid has been PM'd. Garycox I know is waiting a couple of days so that's cool, but I'll be making a trip to the PO tomorrow with everyone's precious booty. 8)

Last bump for the PCs, no Lady Godiva giveaway I'm afraid, but any offers considered.

Any of tomorrow's Scotoshiters fancy a chuckle at the glory years of PC's blind proof readers, including such delights as front wheel drive Ford Mustangs and air cooled, rear engined Renault 12s....

Ah yes. I think that was also the time when a Saab 96 two-stroke was described as having overhead valves. Happily it does seem to have recovered somewhat from those times.

Would that be the jolly time when Mr Holman was editor, before he took a couple of mates & his idiosyncratic grammar and bodged PPC together?

He left back in about 2005 I think. I quite liked the Holman era, thought it was great when Will 'left' and Simon Goldsworthy was acting editor - because he was always filling it with oddball stuff like his Barkas Fire Engine. Then Martyn Moore took over and PC went to a very dark place. I cancelled my subscription in horror.

I also enjoyed his time at the helm, as well as PPC for a long time too, I thought his Capri was fantastic, it's just a shame on the occasions when I've met him, he was a bit twattish toward me, still they do say never meet your heroes, and some would argue that I should have set the bar a bit higher!

OK, all of these are now en route to those of you who have paid.

I've seriously fucked myself on the postage costs though, my method of weighing them (is this bundle heavier than a kilo bag of sugar/what about if I add a 400g tin of peas?) obviously needs more practise.

Consider the PC ones off the market, they're not worth what it would cost to post so unless someone local to Glasgow wants to come and pick them up they'll be going in the recycling bin.

Posted

Ta v much :D. Looking forward to adding them to the bathroom library. Sorry you're out on the postage - don't mind slinging you the extra if it's a lot.

Don't worry about it, it's only pennies and it's all money I didn't have at the start of the week for something that was sitting in a cupboard doing nothing anyway. 8)

What this HAS made me wonder is if it's worth declaring my collection of CAR mags as a separate valuable item to my insurers. :?

Probably sounds as daft to you as it would have sounded to me before this, but even at shiter's rates of £2 a pop I have over a grand's worth of magazines sitting there, and if I could be arsed sticking them on Ebay they'd fetch a lot more.

My CAR magazines are worth more than my cars!

Before you recycle the PC collection..... I'm short a couple of 2010s. From memory, Spring, June and August; also September 2012 if it's on offer. Would you be coming to Coniston? I can wait for them that long, and you get cash in hand, rather than Paypal.

Posted

Doubt I'd be gong to Coniston tbh, looks a bit of a hike from here.

I'm happy enough holding the 2010 ones for you if there's any chance of some form of Autoshite Pony Express getting them to you. Don't have any as recent as 2012 though, I'd given up on PC by that point.

Posted

:D That's promising, where are you again?

Not to worry about 2012, I'll just be glad of the 10s as I have personal interest in some of the articles in those issues.

November 2007, the one with the moggy on the cover features me and my Cortina 2.0S... was a fun day doing that shoot..

^^ This. Martyn Moore did truly horrible things with my favourite mag. I hope they chased him out of EMAP HQ with burning torches

Extremely promising! I'm sure some of our Scottish-type members have shown interest in the meet.
