Ebay Scammers Thread

Spending every evening on ebay means that we're pretty savvy to these scammers. The ridiculously cheap classics with a contact by email only correspondence, and a stupidly low classified add price from a new seller with no feedback. I've reported more than I can remember, many are easy to spot because they replicate the last listing deleted days before. Others less so. The scammers can be quite clever, when I enquired about a £3500 mint MK2 RS Escort, I was sent phoney ebay invoices, logged into fake on-line live chat with an 'Ebay Rep' who explained all I needed to do was to transfer over the money etc etc....

Perhaps, in order to disrupt and perhaps deter these scumbags, we could highlight these ads on this here thread and go about f**king up their shit. Example:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-FORD-SIE ... fresh=true

Sierra Cozzy for 4k. Bid away chums

Also emailing over bollocks questions and promises of sent money... etc etc, you know the coo

Am probably being stupid, but almost £100 grand? Why, if this is a scam would anyone on here bid on it?

The idea is to get people to email the seller so they can be scammed into transfering over the money for the car. But the car doesn't exist.

Ahh. I see. That's shabby.

It is a very good scam if you try to bid on it you get a message to contact ebay which is most likely their number. How anyone falls for it I don't know

I`m listing this golf for a friend.

And yet it has 'genuine Ford parts' :?

They operate on Gumtree etc as well. Silly low prices - they have just moved abroad and the car is with a shipping company - the transaction will be done through ebay motors - they hold the cash while car is delivered and you make sure you are happy with it - just email your details etc etc - of course ebay don't offer that kind of service!!

So, I tried to report the problem to ebay. Not via there normal report button, but via live online chat. What fugging hard work that tuned out to be. Mid-chat I got cut off and had to restart all over again, from department, to department to department.

I was reporting this, which still appears to be running...

This is how difficult it is, this is 2nd time around...

Penny Barrows

Hello, Alex. Welcome to eBay Live Help. My name is Penny. Please give me a moment to read what you have discussed with the previous representative.

Penny Barrows

From what I understand, you want to report a listing. Is that correct?

alexrover

Hi Penny. I was messaging to ask about the most effective way to report scammers. Every day now I'm spotting one or two classic car listings that are scams. this is one 160973610347. When I report them the normal method they still remain for hours.

Penny Barrows

I haven’t received a response for a while. If you're in the middle of typing a reply, could you send it on?

Penny Barrows

I see, I’m glad to inform you that we have a specialised Team which directly handles this type of report. May I now transfer this session to them?

alexrover

yea please

Penny Barrows

Please stay online while I transfer this session to them.

Jason Allen

Welcome to Community Watch Live Chat. My name is Jason. Please give me a moment to review your previous discussion or if you'd like to, can you let me know what the issue is?

alexrover

Hi Jason. this is how it breaks down... They scammers but up an ad. They don't actually have the car advertised, they use photos from previous listings, advertise at a really cheap price, and ask for email contact only. When you email and agree a price (a silly low price) they sent phoney eBay invoices. This is happening daily, I spot them all the time. How can I help you get rid of these more effectively? When I report the normal method the listings are still available hours later

alexrover

160973610347 is one such advert. This is not his car. And it should be about 12 grand

Jason Allen

Thanks for elabrating your issue.

Jason Allen

Please accept my apologies as it seems that the previous representative mistakenly transferred the chat to us. Your concern needs an attention of our other team which looks into such concerns. I've made a note on this chat. Without taking more of your time, may I transfer you now?

alexrover

ok

Jason Allen

Please stay online while I transfer this chat.

Hannah Harrison

Welcome to eBay Live Chat. My name is Hannah. Please give me a moment to review what you have discussed with the previous representative.

alexrover

no problem

Hannah Harrison

I understand you want to report a seller for possible fraud. Thank you for reporting this matter to us, I have passed the details on to the team that look after these issues. Once they have reviewed all the details they will take action as appropriate. Due to privacy laws we will not be able to share what action we take with you but I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for reporting this.

alexrover

Hang on. Is there a more effective way of reporting these ads. There are about 2 a day popping up (that I know of) and after reporting them they are often still there hours later.

Hannah Harrison

You can contact us through this link so you will be directed to the appropriate department that deals with this: http://ocs.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... sPage=true

alexrover

Ok, I'm sure I'll be reporting more later tonight. Thanks

Hey Alex, having read all that I am gonna stick my neck out and say don't use the live chat for reporting stuff.

Posted

Yeah, i'm not looking forward to the next one. But it worked, because the listing was removed (3 friggin hours later)

Posted

I've emailed the Moggie seller, let's see how inventive his scam is.

Posted

reading that 'chat' it seems to me that you were conversing with a computer.

If you are certain that an ebay ad is fake why not just buy it?

i have done this previously, and just refused to pay until i see proof of ownership (which the scammer cant provide), this stops the listing, and the scammer doesnt get any money

if it's an auction then have a massive bid, so making sure you are the winning bidder simples

Posted

Because as the one Hertz has posted it's a 'classified' ad, so no 'buy it now' to end the auction. The whole point is to get you to email the seller, that's where the scam begins...
