Jism Delta

I have been offered a GSM Delta as a potential part ex on the Fulvia. I can see it was a South African special based on the Ford Angular.

Quite frankly this is cool as fook and is worth considering fo'sho. Obv. will have to speak to Volksy about this and the chap will need to see how dodgy the non structural bodywork is on the Fulvia but does anyone have any knowledge about these at all B4 i speak to the chap selling it? Mainly, how much are they worth? If it needs work, and we do work on it can we sell it on at a profit?

No help from me whatsoever.

I've never heard of them before, but now want one.

Know nothing about them from a "should you buy one" point of view but I do know they're a perennial favourite of "Guess The Car" -type threads all the time on various internet forums.

I think they look cool as fuck and I'd snap that up in a jiffy. 8)

Barratt_Holmes probably knows a few facts about these things, certainly looks pretty freakin cool though

Don't go there unless you:

A) Want to have a Ford Anglia-based South African kit car that looks like a Triumph Spitfire crossed with a pair of 1950s/60s womens spectacles for many years to come, or

B) Already have a buyer lined up to take the aforementioned oddity off of your hands. Why do you think it's being offered to you? Probably because it's unsaleable.

Oh I like that. If it's Anglia based, as in 105E, I now want one.

I have to agree, certainly with the latter point. Plus I think it's pretty fugly!

Sorry!

Possibly one of my ultimate dream cars, but the number of UK survivors is so low I figured I'd never see one let alone own one. If you end up getting it I will start saving immediately to take it off your hands next year. Deal?

They were actually built over here too. I can't remember the chronology off the top of my head - if it was born in the UK and moved to saffy, or t'other way round - but needless to say they were built in far greater numbers 'over there' than here, probably because there wasn't really any other options for a homegrown cheap low volume sportscar in SA whereas we were suffering from a surfeit of the bloody things here.

Unlike 99% of 'specials' these things are meant to be pretty well built (if it's survived this long it must've been screwed together fairly well) and they are well respected in SA as mean historic racers. In the same way summat like a Fairthorpe Electron or Turner is over here, the suitability for being ragged round a track makes them a fair bit more valuable than your more common-or-garden placca body bolted to Ford 10 chassis-type affair. tuning potential with the 105E lump is nearly limitless and although it's a matter of taste I think they are very, very pretty indeed.

In short, if you don't do it I will never talk to you again

I think Gordon Murray has one of these. Isn't he a Saffy too?

I have not spoken to this chap yet for one reason or another but as Volksy is out it means I am too. I will ask more about it though i case anyone else is interested as it seems to be a bit Marmite doesn't it?

Right, sorry for the uber late reply on this. I contacted the chap and he came back with the following:

My deceased business partner was the designer of this car being Prof Bob van Niekerk who is world famous for his motoring and boat designs and a world icon really

You will note the massive history behind this car and when attending race tracks you always have someone coming up to you who knows of Bob and the Dart/Flamingo history

Bob won all round the UK in these cars including Goodwood, Brands and Silvestone 3 hr beating Colin Chapman of Lotus at the time

Here is a photo of said car:

Its a race car and not road legal. I live about 5m away from the Harewood House Hillclimb course and if I had the money I would be in that car now giving it big licks. He has said he wants about £5k for it.

It does seem too good to be true, as this must be worth a sodding bomb to the right person. If he is a Nigerian scammer, they have gone up in the world since I last had to deal with one as the company he is emailing from is legit etc. I would hit it. HARD. Sadly I am brassic and need to release funds to pay for a paint job on the Imp and GT6.

Did not ask which engine it had but can do if there is any interest.
