W reg Skoda Fabia VALU?

I've been tasked with flogging the Grandad-in-laws W reg 1.4 petrol Skoda Fabia.

It's in pretty good shape overall, I think its got about 60k on the clock, regularly serviced, couple of new tyres recently e.t.c. Bad points include a slightly slippy clutch and slightly orangepeel paint on a couple of doors- it was vandalised a few years ago and the local garage repaired it. Reasonable job but not 10000% perfect.

Taxed and tested but no idea how long for.

Any info on what these things are worth?

About a grand. Fur by's seemed to have held their value pretty well.

A grand? really? Grandson was on about driving it to the scrapyard!

If someone offers you a grand I'd but their hands off! £600-700 tops I'd thought

Trade in value will barely be £500 I wouldn't think, and with the clutch about to say adeus, its not worth a lot of old gold, but they are a good popular car,so well worth tidying up and getting fighting fit. Is it the 1.4 8V or the more refined 16V VW engine ?

You've got more chance of getting a blow job off Kylie on the back seat of a Lonsdale station wagon than getting a grand for that Fabia. Sorry.

Rough 51 platers still go for well over the grand mark. Silly I know. If I wasn't absolutely brassic at the mo, I'd probably have been tempted. I'd get it in the classifieds if I was you advertising it as an 'ideal first car', as the 1.4 has a very low insurance group. The only thing that kills early Furbys is the PAS, as it is electrohydraulic, and when it does go wrong, its at least £300 for a replacement pump. They are valuable just as breakers, as parts are so damn pricey for em

It's a 16v, still seems pretty slow to drive though. Grandad in law always rated his K series engined Rover 214 over this Skoda.

The Rover ended up like this though, so the Skoda is probably better overall.

Yes,they aren't a very powerfull engine, but less clattery than the Skoda 1.4 MPi engine which is chain driven;as you know, underneath its the Polo 9N1 and Ibiza chassis,so quite well built

I thought Fabias were re-bodied Favourits?

Edit: Sorry I was thinking of Felicias. I am a fool.

Chuck it in a motor auction with a £475 reserve. It's never worth a grand in a million years, what a stupid price to put on it.

Price is always dependant upon condition, although the clutch issue does put a dampner on it

Saw a two 2002 plate Fabia's today in car forecourt for £995, possibly a lot less than that (500 - 600).

Has anyone driven a Fabia/Felicia, they're really good. :)

They should feel pretty much the same as a 9N1/3 Polo; bit rolly poly on corners, but a comfortable ride. They aren't a sporty car,nor do they pretend to be; highly reccomended though

I struggled like hell to get £1600 for my wife's 51-plate 1.4 16v Comfort four and a half years ago. Up on the miles (82k) but full history, full MOT and very, very clean. W-plate is about as early as they come, so I'd see this around the £500 mark as described, particularly as it's near Christmas - how much is a new clutch? With this sorted, a full ticket and if it has a/c (not sure if the early ones had it as standard - I'm assuming 'yours' is a Comfort if it's a 16v) then you could get £800 perhaps.

They're not bad cars - ours had a few niggling issues (mainly engine-light related which were never fully resolved despite much investigation and expenditure on sensors etc - I wonder in hindsight if a new cat would have fixed it), but never actually failed to proceed in the three years we had it, and my wife was doing 20k per year. Very economical (40-50mpg) and went well for a 1400 when wound up past 3k, but the counterpoint is there's no torque at all below that.

Play up the VW connection (even though the engine is a bit of a dog, 36k belt and tensioner changes as the latter as made of chocolate plus they have a known issue with piston rings) and see where you get to.

This one has an occasional engine light issue too! It has to have it turned off every 6 months or so.

Soooo, does anybody want it? I'll stick some pics up eventually.

Every 6 months is pretty good! Mine had temperature sensors, oxygen sensors and all manner of other stuff (timing checked etc), used to go on like clockwork every other week.

Stick some pics up and let's take a look.
