Radio Controlled Shite

I have quite a few (Had over a 100 at one time) but sold a lot off to fund my 1:1 hobby - they basically funded my Anglia!!

Now have around 50 including many NIB, many would fit in here. Would need to dig some pics out.

If anyone wants to sell any or wants parts / swaps / trades let me know - particular after the original Tamiya Brat (Frog/Lancia) or Sand Scorcher parts etc.

(I have the Ford Ranger/Super Champ/Rough Rider and Scorcher)

As well as Wild Willy (yep!!) Mountaineer/Fox/Hotshot/Mudblaster/Audi Quattro/Mini/Audi A4/Capri/Xsara/Imprezzas/Hornet/Grasshopper etc.

And a mint original Marui Hunter (if anyone knows what they are)

That might stir memories for some

i've still got a Tamiay Escrot Cosworth in Ford Motorsport tiger stripes livery and a red Alfa 155 DTM car in the lost upstairs.

the tyres have all perished on the Ford but the Alfa seem fine, i do still have a radio transmitter thing to go with them, they haven't seen the light of day in years and i should really get rid, at the moment they are cluttering up my loft.

as a nipper i had a Tamiya monster truck thing. had the body of a Ford F140 truck, and shared its chassis with some other cars. when i say nipper, i mean 18 cos i went and spent some of my student grant on it almost as soon as i got the cheque in my wee hot hands!

Happy Dayz.....

is there any value in stuff like that or are the cars above really just bin fodder?

(edit - Google says it was a "Blackfoot" monster truck)

Yes they do seem to hold their value to say the least.

I'm no expert but from looking around the going rate on ebay for a TL-01 or similar is around £100 for a running car with radio etc, about £50 for a car only with a ropey shell and probably no speed controller or servo.

There is still a strong market of overgrown man children like myself trying to get the cars they always wanted as kids so 80s and 90s stuff commands a premium.

If you've got these things around gathering dust then I'd say dust them down and get them sold. I would say sell them to me but I wouldn't be offering anything like ebay prices.

Worth bunging up on here first, it would take much convincing me to drop some cash on a proper Tamiya TT01 or something. I keep looking on eBay but they're often butchered, always badly photographed on a kitchen table and regularly have bits missing.

I bought my 8 y/o the Vanessa's Lunchbox for his birthday in October, he's been asking for one for a while I didn't I didn't want to but some cheap £40 pos that would get binned after a month. Due to a skint month I bought the ESC and battery two weeks ago and got it all together but it's pissed down continuously since then. Had a decent day yesterday and took it out, the steering is crap, I managed to knock it over twice when stopping it quickly and then after five minutes the nut holding one of the rear wheels fucked off into the grass never to be seen again. So the poor little bugger still hasn't gotten to play with his birthday present and until I get another it's up on the shelf (it was bloody good fun for that five minutes though).

Hmmm Mrs just reminded me I have one of these somewhere.

All pretty much spotless, unlike the well enjoyed Grass hopper (still on a 380!) knackered Blackfoot, and driveshaft chewing Kyosho monster truck. Brother in law has boxes and boxes of these things, still races today. Used to be employed by Radio-Active models once upon a time too. She had a Holiday buggy as a girl!

Bumping this for a shameless for sale post.

I bought some r/c shite and predictably haven't used it at all several months later.

Here is the text of my ad.

Job lot of RC cars and equipment.

Tamiya TT-01D Type S chassis with battered BMW E46 body. All OK and working.
Unidentified 2WD Nikko 1/10 chassis with OK Focus body. This is also working.
1/14 Nikko Peugeot 206 WRC. Untested as do not have the right battery.

Also included is:
2.4GHz radio set which was used with the Tamiya.
27MHz Acoms transmitter that works with the 2WD Nikko.
2 other transmitters - untested. One I think is an aircraft type.
4 x batteries - these were working OK but old so no guarantees on usability or run time. 2 are HPI 4300mAh NiMH, 2 are smaller NiCd.

1 x mains charger - this works but the auto shut off feature shuts it off before the battery is fully charged, so to get a full charge you have to keep turning it back on and watch the time.
1 x car charger - untested.

In total there are 2 x working cars with radios and batteries and everything else is for spares or repair.

The Tamiya chassis and 2.4MHz radio gear are easily worth my asking price.

Don't expect anybody would have an old 1/8th scale off road IC car they want to part with or a Mardave Stockmaster?

I'm also looking for a 2 speed gearbox for a 1/10th scale PB mini mustang or Maxima....RC shite indeed

Holy thread resurrection batman

I always fancied a proper Tamiya when I was younger. I did end up saving up and blew the money on a nitro powered thunder tiger Ts4n. It was great fun but a lot of faff, and really suited for tarmac only.

I'd love something that would be suitable for our back garden - we've a raised patio about 2m higher than the lawn, if it could survive a jump off that, and jump tree roots etc that would be ideal.

Looking at the likes of the Tamiya Hornet and grasshopper, would they survive a beating? Vanessa's lunchbox?

Whoaaa this thread got some dust on it!

ive been out and about with my rock crawler of recent. A Traxxas TRX4. I wanted one for ages, all the cheaper ones were, well, cheaper in every aspect. So I saved up and bought this about 4 years ago. The original tyres and tyre foams have bit the dust. I got spare foams but the tyres are goosed, so bought a set of 5 camel trophy wheels off the Bay. Wanted to spray them silver….. but masking the tyres off isn’t easy.

you can see the original tyres have swollen up quite a bit in comparison to these newer wheels n tyres.

And from an outing the other day. On the left is my 1/10 trx4 and on the right is my mates Kanyon trialer in 1/10 scale too. That one is about £160 rrp. The TRX4 is about £500 now.

Well when I was a kid my big brother had some Tamiya RC buggies/trucks. I was too young to be able to afford one and was very jealous!

I remember having a Tamiya catalogue at the time and nearly reading all of the print off the page.

Recently I've been thinking of buying one but always talk myself out of spending what for me is a big chunk of cash.

Well............

I've just won the Tamiya Bush Devil that 6D diesels off of YouTube raffled off!
