Not really much shite in my update but though I would don my flame proof briefs and post up anyway.

Well, this year the missus and I have had the best news ever, we are expecting our first baby, due in April 2013 :D Hopefully a shiteist in the making too!

Anyways, after spending a week trying to solve the Vectra's myatery running problem I finally had it running sweeter than ever. New MAF, Idle control valve, plugs, leads and rocker cover gasket. 1 week later, the steering rack blew its drivers side seal in spectacular fashion (Checked the banjo bolt too) and that as they say was that. I am not a fan of cars either new or practical, but I decided that I wanted something for my wife that was brand new and had a long warranty. As long as it was a box that went and stopped without fail, I gave not one monkeys uncle what kind it was.

So we ended up with this:

Chevrolet%20Aveo%20rear_zpsaa60cec8.jpg

Chevrolet%20Aveo%20dash_zpse01b6624.jpg

Chevrolet Aveo 1.2. Its got a Corsa engine and is apparently not a Daewoo design or anything. I quite like the way it looks myself.

It was the biggest car we could afford. Although it is OH NOES GM FRONT WHEEL DRIVE, its actually a very smooth riding and solid wee motor with loads of stuff like cruise control, air con and bluetooth. From someone who has a cassette player in their current car, this latter function had me amazed

However, it does have some credentials for future shite:

-Obscure

-Rare

-Underpowered

So, the missus has given a months notice to the person she is renting her lock up to so I will be putting the Vectra in there until I decide what to do. The Astra is a hobby car so thats taking a long term back seat and the shoogly 3-pot Corsa is now my daily.

Kind of had it with cars just now!

Congrats on your baby news Iain, to you and your missus!

Not sure what to make of those Aveos; they look quite aggressive in a way, and the dash is a bit mental. Future-shite contender tho'!

Cheers CJ :D

I think I always think of Ladas and FSO's as budget cars, or perhaps F to J reg protons, so I'm not sure of it myself yet either

I was thinking from the point of view of there being a healthy number of roughly 10-12 year old Daewoos still rattling about. And about how that's more than can be said for the equivalent Peroduas etc. It's a bit hit and miss with the S.E.Asian stuff really, as to what will survive and what won't.

But anything that starts out near the bottom of the price scale is already off and running from a 'Shiters point of view, surely?

GR9 news on the babba front old chap!

And FWIW, I don't mind them Aveos. They're certainly futureshite, no doubt about that, and look pretty smart, and are "reasonably priced".

I know exactly what you mean about the V**tra too....contemplating whether to spunk a load of £££ on The Moose, as she needs a service, cambelt etc, but going on past experience, and yours(!), it seems to just encourage an epic fail somewhere else....i had an Escort Mark 3 a long time ago, treated it to a full main dealer service, which cost over 2 weeks wages at the time, then it did it's cambelt about about 4 weeks later. Arsecakes, and indeed bumhats!

I hate to agree with my wife but she quite rightly pointed out it was one thing after another with that car. Things with it were just 'going that way' and I got a feeling an epic fail of a hydraulic nature was imminent. Fine if its a hobby, but not a family car. It needs a timing belt in Jan too, plus the tax and Mot are up in Nov. At least if my Corsa breaks down I have a good bus service to get to the station!

I wish Chevrolet would put the badges on the grilles on their cars instead of down there, they look totally in the wrong place!
