Greetings from a Cornish shitter!

Hello all.

I'm Paul from Cornwall and have been lurking and enjoying the forum for quite some time, but thought I'd best post. Have a history of shitters, mainly Fiats (Fiat Uno, Tipo, Tempra, 2x Cinquecentos, Seicento, Stilo, and three Puntos), a couple of Citroen AXs (a 10E and a 10 Debut), a Datsun Almera 1.4GX, Datsun Sunny and a VW Golf mk2. The Golf was a poverty spec C that was once Mars red, but ended up orange. Nearly ended up buying a Yugo 45 but was beaten to it.

My wife's current daily shitter is a ghastly 02 Corsa with a the hateful, horrid, dreadful Easytronic gearbox.

My current daily is this:

It may be a 205, but it's a shite-spec Junior from 1987. Has the old lean-back 954cc engine with about the same power output as my blender. I needed a car, really wanted another Uno or Tipo but couldn't really find any. Trawled various places and after looking at a 309, a Renault 11 and a Renault 5 "Famous Five" went for this as the condition was too good to pass up. Few parking dents here and there, but 2 owners and 44,000 miles. It's noisy, ponderous, slow, tinny and rattly. Perfect!

Welcome along. I find your lack of Corsa love disturbing, but you like 205s and have a terrible car history so you'll be well received here.

Got any pictures of your previously owned snotters? Post them up if so please.

Welcome along. I find your lack of Corsa love to be encouraging.

205s are excellent. :) Welcome along.

Corsa easychronic, eh? Whatever possessed you? The manuals are hideous, but the autosplatic? Therapy is available.

Have you ever worked for BR, and ever lived in the West of Camborne? If so, sorry........... my bad in 1985.

Indeed it is...

Welcome, Paul!

Now that's the kind of therapy needed! Thanks for the welcomes all. I shall post some of my old snotters up within the next day or so when I dig the photos out.

The Corsican Sleazeytronic was a "gift" from my mother in law to 'er indoors. Mainly because she'd bought a new car and couldn't sell this crock. She liked it but replaced it with a Grande Punto. I'd hate to see what she'd give us if she was really pissed off with us. 'Er Indoors actually likes it! :?

That wee Pug looks ace, even still sporting its original wheeltrims I see. :D

Welcome board.

Good stuff. Welcome along. Nice to see a non GTi 205 for a change. I have a wee bit of a soft spot for Pugs as I learned too drive in a 309 funnily enough in the same colour as your 205!!!!

I have always wondered about the sanity of people who live on the peninsula and now it is confirmed. You had 2 AX Citroens. Was one not enough? We had one until the local oiks realised that you only had to gob at it for the panels to cave in.

Welcome by the way, I think you are going to fit in well here.

welcome along. There's much love here for the 205, I quite like it myself.

Hello & Welcome! :D

The Shiteosphere will be your spiritual, vehicular home.

Welcome. :D

Nice to see a new member that has a car collection that vaguely resembles my current and past ones. Now own an Almera and I had a Fiat Tempra. Almost contemplated buying a pre registered base model Seicento in 2002. And was considering a 205 in 2001.

I like the interior trim of the 205 Junior - almost resembles a pair of blue jeans!

Yeah, I love the interior and seats of these old Juniors. It's nice having a 205 to be honest, and although I've only had it a short while, it's fast becoming one of my favourite snotters. Also passed my driving test in a 205, but it was a 1.8 STDT.

Here's the old snotters I've had previously, or at least the ones I can find pictures for. :)

Stilo 1.4 Active 3door. One of only two new cars either me or SWMBO have bought. Even then it was an ex demonstrator. Loved it and was a faithful servant for over six and a half years, and shock horror, bloody reliable. Never let me down, failed to start, have anything fall off it or have too many warning lights come on, either!

Nissan Drizzle 1.6 SLX. Had this one for a few months while the MOT lasted on it. It was promptly bought for scrap not long after as there were holes in the floor, the fuel pump packed up and the alternator went. So, before it went, me and a mate modified it. A bit.

It was later converted to a single seat racer:

Punto 1.2 8v Poverty Spec

Citroen C3 1.4 LX. Hateful turd of a car, the other new car we had, which was the wife's. Reasonable to drive, but over the 18 months we had it, the interior pretty much disintegrated, the gearbox went out to lunch, the power steering failed five times, and if it were damp it was more troublesome to start than my old AX 10E and would run on three cylinders. Total and utter shite. It spent more time in the local Citroen dealer than it did with us.

I look forward to participating more :D

Good stuff, like those Puntos and obviously Cinq's are for winners!

That is the best OMG RATLUK YO! I've ever seen. You should post it on RR, they'll love it.

Greetings from a fellow Pug 205 owner :)

Mines is a mingebag spec XE, though, lacking your fancy sunroof and rear window wiper...

The mighty 954cc powerhouse / rifle bolt 4 speed box have coped with x4 return trips from London to Scotland since March this year, plus a trip down your way and onto Lands End.

I have a lot of love for mine - Only things I've changed from OEM spec is to fit a fag lighter, and stick a set of wider 106 steel wheels on it. (135/60/13 tyres are a bit of a liability when you're subjecting it to 1000 mile round trips in all weather... )

That golf is particularly lovely, have you still got it?

There's one always parked outside my gaff, Mr Bol...

Golf-3.jpg

You should buy it, polish it up, and sell it on eBay for eleventy-million pounds?

@Largactil - I love the 205. It's rattly, slow and noisy but never fails to raise a smile. As it's in such good condition, my intention is to keep it as original as possible, however I may fit some wider wheels at some point as, because it's a daily hack it needs to be practical. It's had the fag lighter done, too.

Sadly, no don't have the Golf anymore. Major engine catastrophe, plus other work needed doing it sadly got scrapped

I like the way you need to plan motorway overtaking several moves ahead, much like a game of chess... And if baulked by a slower car pulling out, you have to pull in behind them, in order to spend 5 minutes amassing enough speed to pull back out into the overtaking lane...

It does feel rather more stable & planted on wider wheels - Here's the original 135 wheel / tyre next to the 165 I fitted from the 106...

(Mines is white too - Here's a rambling thread which I occasionally update on the car... http://tinyurl.com/9lr6dl8 )

Is the easytronic corsa the one with the semi-auto, I hired one of those when I bust my knee, it was hateful, constantly confused, and impossible to make smooth progress in.

Pug 205, what memories. My wife had one for a commuter about 6 yeras ago, it was a lightweight version as in the interior had been mostly eaten by the previous owners dog ! It looked hideous inside and out, made god awful noises but being a 1.8 weezel it went suprisingly well :D Got £100 when we traded it, dead happy!

Yeah, I kind of missed that overtaking planning from my previous low powered shitters. This feels less eager than the TU 954 engines I'd had in my AXs (then they did weigh the same as a piece of paper) but it's excellent fun in the town and on the back roads where I live. I also like the unmistakeable engine/gearbox whine of the 104/Samba/Visa lump. Definitely think I'll do the wider wheel thing. Great thread on your 205, looks great. There's definitely something about poverty spec old motors such as these.

@Volksy - yes, the Sleazytronic is the semi-auto pile of shite. The rest of the car isn't THAT bad as far as Corsicants go, the engine's quite a goer but the gearbox is without doubt the worst thing ever fitted to a car anywhere in the history of the world.

The Cheesychronic isn't all that bad, just take your foot off the throttle very slightly as you feel it use the clutch.... They're alright as Vauxhalls go, and we all know that they're all shit. :)
