I quite like these, what are they actually like? Frameless windows FTW!

I quite like them too....had one as a hire car in the states. Wasn't as nice as the V6 Dodge Intrepid though!

I'm not sure what the major issue is with these cars - they have a bad rep everywhere it seems.Funny thing is they use Mitsubishi engines and should be pretty reliable - but for whatever reason they depreciate worse than a Lada back in the day?

I've heard that parts prices are extortionate

Having lived in the USA 2001~2007 I find all car parts prices extortionate in the UK ;)Must be particularly bad for these then? Prolly get 'em from the USA a lot cheaper even with shipping then?

Please move closer to the North West as I have sudden need of a cheap taxed and tested shitter for a couple of months. :(

Quality rental car abuse there  I thought the Neon had a Chrysler-developed engine - updated K-Car lump, no?

Excellent piece !Didn't neon's only have 3 speed auto's if they were rental spec only?

As we're wandering nicely, I  the Chrysler Concorde, looks like a much bigger version of the Neon 8)

The Chrysler Neon engine is a small straight-4 piston engine designed originally for the Dodge and Plymouth Neon compact car. It was loosely based on the Chrysler K engine and the Rover K engine, sharing the same 87.5 mm bore. The SOHC cylinder head on the 2.0 is similar to that on Mitsubishi's "Orion" 4G15B, and the DOHC head from the 2.0 and 2.4 is similar to Mitsubishi's "Sirius" 4G63B. The DOHC head was deveolped by Chrysler with input from the Chrysler-Lamborghini team that developed the Chrysler/Lamborghini Formula 1 V12 engine in the early 1990s[1]. The Neon engine itself is the loose basis for the Tritec engine.

Beginning in 2005, the Neon engine began phasing out in favor of the new Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance joint-venture engine.

The 2.0 and 2.4 L variants were built at Saltillo Engine in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico. The 2.0 was also built at Trenton Engine in Trenton, Michigan.

The Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance LLC, or GEMA, is a manufacturing arm of Global Engine Alliance LLC, which is a joint venture of Chrysler, Mitsubishi Motors, and Hyundai Motor Company for developing a line of shared engines

Allpar.com suggests Slant Six ancestry in the early Neon lump - sounds about right for a Merkin manufacturer - IIRC the first US versions of the Cavalier had an OHV 2L lump created by chopping two cylinders off a 3L six dating back to the Cro-Magnon era  I thought all Neon autos - up until the very last ones - had a 3-speed auto - Wikipedia seems to indicate that from '02 on a 4spd was fitted, but I'm pretty sure they'd dropped it in this country by then.

I think the eBay link was from when he bought the car, not him selling it with one account and bidding on it on another.

58classiccars, did you win the car you were selling? :?

yes I did buy the car, and its not to bad to drive, but the main thing to put me off the car is all the small dents, but you cant see them in the pics.

The BMW Mini engine also has its roots in the Neon unit - some tuners have used the 2 litre gut in the Mini 1600 block or something.
