'80s porn mag - not really

I was clearing out the loft to make way for some free insulation when I happened upon some old mags. Mostly Dirt Bike Rider 'cause I used to play on two wheels but also this Halfords number from 1986, the year I was 17...

I put an RGA front spoiler on my Allegro in 1983 - it didn't look bad. I also bought a Gelhard amp around that time and still ave it in the garage somewhere. I got it very cheap as the firm my dad worked for we're agents for Gehard.

Check the prices for some of that stuff, particularly the stereos!

I love the optimism of someone thinking they can enhance the appearance/performance of an Ital or a Volvo 240 with some tasteful Richard Grant appendages....

Back then I used to work in the city centre and there was a big Halfrauds just round the corner, many the lunch hour was spent eyeing up their tat.

I'm sure that arse picture must look better in real life, because here it looks like the aftermath of nasty diarrhoea attack.

Autoplas from this parish used to sell this crap during this period. Hence the name.

I will alert him to this thread!!

How Halfords has changed. Or not. I've got the original Kamei version of the spoiler on the BMW E21 - its as flimsy as an Ian Brady legal defence.

most of those pictures have reminded me of how much I hated body kits and still do!

THIS.

I've never seen a single example of a car that looks better with an aftermarket bodykit.

They all look shit compared to how they came out the factory, & even some of the factory kits are pretty hideous.

Can't see the point if it takes an hour for the window to go down!?

That window winder kit is brilliant, looks like a proper homebrew effort. Would only be more bizarre if steam powered.

I do reckon some cars look good with a proper kit - not better, just nice to see a few period mods. I remember lusting over the Ford RS catalogue where you could glue plastic bits onto everything from a Fiesta to a Granada. And then seeing a White Orion cruising the streets of Skegness with the whole kit on, 7-spoke wheels, the lot.

And today a Mk2 Golf passed me with some sort of period air dam/grille/boot spoiler combo on. Made a nice change from slammed/BBSs/Single lamp

I always thought that the Volvo 200 Series body-kit was a genuine Volvo accessory. Clearly, it wasn't :)

Nail a snowplough and a farm gate like that onto the front of your Mini 850 and it would cut Vmax by half, shirley...?

How cool is that, I would love one of those brochures to peruse.

I never knew Halfords sold Gelhard stereos and I didn't ever see any in the stores near me. I did however buy a Gelhard alplifier/equaliser on holiday in Germany in 1989 and it was a top bit of kit, I should say is actually as I still have it somewhere in the loft.
