I've put this in the 'grin' thread, but it seems appropriate to include it here too.

This almost beats that one time, in Wiltshire, when some very strange men "ooh"d and "ahh"d at the headlamp wipers on an XJS.

Ah yes. Good times indeed. Everyone who didn't come to Shitefest truly missed out. And they both worked! Heaven.

Nice link. Not that keen on any of those. I'd love to know what it had originally. I know my dad's later Bluey had a Blaupunkt unit - it was so nice that thieves stole it.

I know I'm meant to be selling this thing, but I can't help myself. I've just ordered a thermostat for it as it pains me to see a car not running at the correct temperature. It's only started happening since it turned colder but drive down a long hill and the gauge drops (as does the heater output!).

I presume the thermostat is in the housing where the top hose goes into the block, but would anyone like to confirm? (just behind the cambelt cover in this shot).

It will be. I have just bought thermostat no.4 for the fuggin Rover, they last about a year then go haywire, cheap Chinese rubbish! No more ‘motaquip’ thermostats in my cars, they suck.

Yes, just to the left of the cambelt cover. Mine has always run at about 1/4 hot unless at idle for a few minutes. i changed the thermostat and flushed the system but made no difference

It's the cooling down on long descents that makes me think something's up. It can still get up to 1/4 when climbing a hill, but the needle soon drops again, as does heater output.
