dollywobbler Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I own two BXs. One needs much mechanical overhauling, the other is pretty good mechanically but as structurally sound as a sea-soaked Lancia. I've run out of money/inspiration and also time to turn two into one. The Mk1 many of you know well. It's won awards. For being really crap. It isn't that crap actually, but it does need some lovin'. For all its crapness, it's never failed to complete a journey and it's been as far as Wiltshire and East Anglia. The engine is poor, the gearbox is poor (no first gear synchro) and the steering rack is bloody awful. The Mk2 is pretty rotten. It does need a cambelt and probably a clutch, but they're easy to do while the engine is out. Which you could do before putting the rejuvinated power unit into the Mk1 - at which point it would be a lot better! The Mk2 would also yield many parts. If you've the time and inclination, there'd be a lot of people interested in bits. Such as the recently fitted new wheel bearings (you could sell the complete hub. Though you might want one for the Mk1). Both cars currently have MOT. Both cars currently have tax, but only until the end of the month - in both cases. My plan is to get a good BX and keep it good, and then have time to get the 2CV sorted out. She's looking a bit rough. £595 gets you both cars. I'm not interested in swaps (he says bravely). I'm feeling the Citroen love at the moment and the BX especially. I just need a better starting point.
philibusmo Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 If only you had three to sell I would have been all over this.*GLWTS *not really, I'm just bored and fucking about.
dollywobbler Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 May have someone interested. Who lives not a million miles away from that lovely Ebay Granada...
catsinthewelder Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 We just need to get Mat drunk enough GLWTS and all that
mrcitroen Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Hope you shift them on OK. I would take the MK1 but have no room. Using the engine from the Mk2 sounds a good plan
dollywobbler Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 It's going to a chap who's heroically saved a GS already and who's previous classics include BXs and a Wartburg. This will leave me with £495 in my pocket and needing to get home while not being a million miles from that Ebay Granada...
messerschmitt owner Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Ian probably not much use to you, but I am driving to Llandudno (via Mid Wales) on Saturday morning if you needed a lift back from near Brisle. It'll be bright and early (Llandudno for eight) but you could stay over tomorrow night - if it helps. Campbell
dollywobbler Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Thanks for the offer Campbell. That makes much more sense than buying another heap o' shite, which therefore means I'm very unlikely to take you up on it! T'is appreciated though.
messerschmitt owner Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I'm sure we could find you a nice XM instead of a F-F-F-F-F-Ford! I'm perhaps ten miles from Dursley too so I could even collect you ...
mrcitroen Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Good Result. The MK1 deserves to live Glad it's going to a good home.
Wilko220 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 It's going to a chap who's heroically saved a GS already and who's previous classics include BXs and a Wartburg. This will leave me with £495 in my pocket and needing to get home while not being a million miles from that Ebay Granada... Excellent news - sounds as if it has a bright future!
dollywobbler Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 I'm really pleased. It's the perfect home. BX Mk2 is still an issue. If I retax it, I'm committing myself to putting a clutch and cambelt on it. S'pose it is then still legal until next summer. I really should avoid buying another car and fettle what I already have. I somehow feel that owning just three cars ain't gonna happen...

Get that Grannie bought man! You'll get some time driving in comfort then you'll probably be able to sell it on for what you paid for it.
trigger Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Get that Grannie bought man! You'll get some time driving in comfort then you'll probably be able to sell it on for what you paid for it. This! The thought of driving from Bristol to Mid Wales in that hunny is enough to make me green eyed! Just hope it isn't sold yet!
dollywobbler Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Granada sold yesterday apparently. Bloke sounded a bit miffed - as if he wished he'd asked another £200 at least! I imagine he's had a lot of calls about it... Probably for the best. Maybe.
messerschmitt owner Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Ian not too late to get that lift back - let me know tomorrow and it'll be OK to stay over if you can cope with an early start Saturday.Campbell
dollywobbler Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 Thanks Campbell. Going to decline as I've got a gig on Saturday night, so I don't think a ridiculously early start will help! No real urgency as the tax on the Mk1 doesn't run out until the end of the month.
RobT Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Getting a good basis to work with sounds a sensible plan Ian. Fancy a Renault 25? Only kidding...
