Shildon Classic Car Show Pics (22nd July)

Recommended Posts

Posted

At "Locomotion", the charity-funded Railway Museum in Shildon on today the 22nd July.

Was free to enter and display so I thought why the hell not. That's where I took the pictures of my Triumph in the other thread.

Here are far too many pictures. I'm afraid only a few of them have comments above as I don't really know what most of them are, as I'm not a classic car buff (yet).

Apologies for some of the pictures being slightly blurry, it was windy and I was getting blown around a bit so it took them while it was still focusing.

Note that I stopped taking pictures of MGB's after a while as there were eleventy billion of them. :?

SO glad I didn't get one myself and chose the Triumph. They're common as muck.

Nice photos, That Consul looks delightfully tatty and the 1st marina at the top looked great!

That bear has an evil glint in his eye, what a strange thing to have in your car.

There's an almost identical picture of the same Citroen Bijou on Wikipedia, quite a rare little thing. What you get when you cross a car with a fish is a Daimler Dart, I'm pretty sure it was designed by getting one person in the design studio to draw a car and then pass that drawing to every other designer in the studio with the brief to 'just add one more thing'. In fact, having a second scroll through, that blue council estate Elvis style Vauxhall Cresta appears next to the Citroen Bijou on Wikipedia, so maybe they're friends?

The Wikipedia picture (which is huge, so I've provided a link): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... n_Bijou_(1).jpg

Looks like an interesting show, shall have to see about giving it a visit next year.

I'm fairly certain that this was local to me.

It always used to be parked in the Washington-Birtley services southbound area although I haven't seen it for a while, mainly because I don't pass by there regularly like I used to but I don't think it is there anymore.

Speaking of piscene-looking cars these:

Shildon%20(130).jpg

when they were first spotted on the streets in Gothenburg were bubbed "Fiskebilen" (the fish car) due to their appearance.

Always thought they were a great design myself.

Good show that, wish I had known it was on. A fair number of those look familiar - from the MetroCentre meets.

It wasn't very well advertised outside of the local area, I only got to know about it four days before it happened.

Posted

I've just been out to rescue my youngest who's Clio refuses to start and driven past the place that the P1800 used to park. It wasn't there.

Epic amount of win right there. Thanks for uploading that lot.

Great pix - says it all that the green Marina is amongst my favourites! Some lovely Vauxhalls as well.

That brown Maxi just looks too shiny - it's not natural!

Posted

That's quite a selection, thanks for making the effort to upload such a page full of WIN! :D

Wouldn't know where to begin, but I'd be happy to smoke around in that slightly sinister looking satin black Amazon while I made my mind up. 8)

Very true. I'm not far away from Shildon and I had no idea about it. As it happens I had already got tickets for the 2CV (and other) racing at Croft for that afternoon so I couldn't have made it.

I think the next show in the area is at Raby Castle at the start of August.

Some great spots there. Love the FD Ventora but the biggest accolade must go to the Citroen Bijou, the only Citroen model designed outside France apparently. Never seen one in the flesh or even on this site before.

The Bijou was the first (of very few) spot I posted.

Hadn't a clue what it was until enlightened here.

I had wondered if it was the same one that showed up in Shildon.

Not, clearly.

Great pics, thx for sharing them ... I need an old Volvo in my life

Posted

I'd love to rumble around in that Bedford lorry. I wonder if those things are particularly hard work to drive.

Also, folk always cite the E-type as one of the best looking cars of evah but, I think that gold fhc model in particular looks gash.

Hi,

Are the photographs of Shildon show you've posted from July 2012 only on the site for so long? For some reason I cannot access any of them so I'm assuming you have taken them off. I was hoping you may have taken some of my red 1979 Lotus Esprit S2 which was there. If so, would you be able to post them for me please?

Thanks

Peter
