Bleach bottle screen wash - MeggaBodge ;<)

...this is me & my PROTON SAVVY.

MOT is tomorrow and the motor for the washers has completely 'dissolved' into a rusty Tbag :(

The bottle is [per usual] half in the car/half under the bumper, so can't be removed without dismantling the entire front end..... :?

..seeing a briefest of brief gaps in the rainclouds, last week, I popped along to the breakers and got a Pug pump + wiring for plug & Grommet.

A rigid bleach bottle was whipped from the recycling box and 'Bob's not yrr Aunty!'

pumpinbleachbottle.jpg

I WILL do it propper, by stripping the PROTON $hite out and fitting the PUGs for Front&Rear wash.... If the rain stops long enough :P

Proppa $hiteing... for a fiver, all in.

Tip-top! When the washer bag on my Avenger gave up the ghost, a plastic salad cream squeezy bottle was used along with the original pipework to get it through the MOT!

Nice fix!

My washer bottle is a Dolmio jar. I painted the lid. Works well.

Thats brilliant!

After seeing the vid on how good it works, I reckon you should leave it as it is, or if you do decided to do a repair, at least keep the peugeot pump, or even use a washer bottle from a different car.

This reminds me that I've seen someone use a Volvo 850 expansion tank in the Honda 2.7 V6 engine as a replacement after the old one broke.

Well Thanxx.. and to everyone who seems to appreciate the effort required to 'break free' the chains of Dealer Parts Desks...

I will strip the bottle - plug the holes for the PROTON pumps.... and drill + fit up 2x PUG pumps  ...damn! another £5

I've still got the bodge repair on the manifold of the 2CV using an old can of stout and a jubilee clip, but a bleach bottle for a washers is a top bodge.

Jan 2013 >> I bought a pair of wiper blades at Poondland, I cut the rubber of one to fit my rear wash wipe.

Today >> I used up the second blade.......

Amazing VFM, I reckon  :D

top bodge. My '49 chevy didn't have screen washers, so a set of mini washer jets, assorted pipework and a comfort bottle fitted so I could squeeze it by pressing it with my left knee worked a treat.

I love bodges

good work!   I would not count it as a bodge, though...In my view building a bloody car around a screenwash bottle is the bodgery....

I reckon it would be easy to make this permanent - the handle on the bottle should allow it to be securely cable tied to the body.

It's definitely a better repair than one my mate effected - he just shoved an old washing up liquid bottle full of screenwash solution in the drivers door pocket of his Astra. Trouble was, winding the window down and clearing the screen using this, whilst tooling down the M6 at about 70, wasn't easy. It was winter, and his hand got so cold in the airstream that he lost his grip on the bottle. Which hit the police car behind's grille and got wedged in it.

The magistrates weren't very sympathetic, and as well as a fine he got a lecture about vehicle maintenance.

That MOT station looks like Danby's. Surely not?

The Mini Clubman that Shiteveg and I had, had an olde world vacuum, push switch thingy, instead of an electric motor.

We couldn't get it to work, so bodged in a mk4 Escort bottle and electric pump. Cable tied to the inside of the grille and accompanied by a cheap-ass push button.

Lovely.

i used a fairy bottle (searched ages to get a proper old white one) on my Rebel van,was even the same size as the original tudor one so fitted the clips lovely.

Can you not remove the old one through the wheelarch?

Err NO. I'm just leaving it exactly as it is >> Perfecctamunndo.

Less obvious than a tattoo but often glimpsed, through the grille, to say "TS, the $hiteist, Wozz ere!"

I have an itch...... :?

My Spots were fitted because the 'preperforated' bumper holes [for the Style model - which has factory fit spots] broke away leaving a gawpy hole...

Spots_1.jpg

.... I really quite like them, with the bloo tint.... however I have never bothered wiring them in (EXCEPTIONALLY good lights on my Savv  :-P  )

Seeing - even C1s - with 'growlers', I fancy just wobbing in some LED running lights.

Our local Poondies has LED bike lights (a pair of 5LED/6V equalling £2) so I was wondering opinions on my:-

Cracking out the spots/remove bulb+holder/araldite in the LED array/wire in series [2 x 6V] with a glow switch... or just 'on all the time' ??

* other suppliers are available.....

what does everyone reckon?? Worth a Lottery Ticket ???
