The Adam bit may come from Adam Opel....?

The Voxall name might be a handicap. It would appear to be a great way of reintroducing the Opel name into the UK. It doesn't look too bad but it's nothing new and it won't match the numbers the Audi A1, 500 and Mini do. Not a prayer.

The very fact people may confuse The Vauxhall Saddam Ousepain with a shitty Ka would be enough to put me off it. Other than that it looks ok to me but I have a floating head that isn't connected to my body properly.

Anyhow it makes a refreshing change to have arguments about new cars, you can never have enough of this sort of thing

TBH I quite like the look of most of the 'retro' based stuff..............but then I suppose I would as I like old cars.

No doubt beauty is in the eye of the beholder but a good looking car is a good looking car..........whenever built. Same goes for uglies

Indeed, the catering manager at Ellesmere Port.

Bring back Wayne Cherry and Harley Earl. Those guys could style cars.

Never mind the Mini and Fiat 500, this is the car it will have to beat.

The attitude of buyers is the most depressing thing though. This week's Autocar carries a road test of the Toyota Yaris Hybrid, arguably the most miserable car on the market, but admits that it might sell quite well because zero VFD is a key factor in buying small cars as the buyers are too stupid (my words :) ) to realise that VED is probably less than 1% of the purchase price in any case. And why are Chris Bangles iconic BMWs being replaced by bland lardier models, is it because the owners (leasers?) can't be interested in design and only want anything that has big wheels and thin tyres and will hold two sets of golf clubs in the boot :( We may be at or near the summit as far as engineering goes but as for style, we have to go back to at least the era of the Jags in the 'Jag v Audi' thread

I need to find an excuse to have a better look at some in real life soon, possibly next week.

Because with very few exceptions in very choice colour and trim specs Bangle BMWs are fucking ugly. The 'lardy' ones are better looking, although they're no oil paintings either.

My brother has a current 5 series in a very AS dark metallic brown with a dark browny red interior. It looks rather nice. Similar to the one in this photo, which is taken from the least flattering angle on the thing.

Bangle BMWs should never have happened. They make the Frogeye Scorpio look positively ravishing.

THe current 3 5 and 7 Series, as well as the Z4, are massive improvements looks wise over the old models. The 1 Series is however almost comically ugly after the facelift

I'm a Bangle fan, every one of his cars - especially the 1-series. Of course they all look "challenging" except for the conservative 3 and 7, but he did challenging well - the new 1 imho is a mong, the new 3 a token facelift lacking in effort (like the new passat), and the new 6 frankly just boring. They all stood out from the crowd, in the same way that the CLS did from an otherwise drudgery Mercedes line-up. I mean what've been the only interesting Audis recently... the A2 and original TT.

Bangle BMWs and modern Peugeots are some of the most fucking hideous looking cars ever made.

IMO, of course....

Once again, in a vain attempt to drag this topic vaguely back the question asked by OP, how many of the Bangle 7 series BMW do we think we'll be seeing in 15/20 years compared to the amount of tidy late 90s ones that are still about today?

Hard to choose an angle from which this thing looks even vaguely acceptable, but the front is slightly better than the back.

Looks about half a ton lighter, doesn't it?

Don't forget the R8 and S and RS models.

The R8 is okay, but too utilitarian and geeky compared to its rival the 911. Styling wise the S and RS are exactly the same as their everyday counetrparts save for a few stickers and an inch of spoiler here and there. Shows my point of how unadventurous they are, if anything. The TT and A2 were fundamentally interesting, unique and new designs like Bangle's podgey fish-eye creations.

Oh fuck, who let that go out without removing its braces?

The Audi R8 is the slowest depreciating car in the UK PHAKT. That and a pretty bullet proof and excellent v8 engine probably means 80% of them will still be on the road in 10 years time.

I actually think the E39 E38 BMW's are in quite a nice place tech wise. I think the E39 5 series is probably the most rounded car ever. They're incredibly well built, comfortbale have modern construction, safety system and advanced ECU' s but are still nothing a basic OBDII reader can't diagnose when you run into bother,

The next generation of BMW (e60 etc) seemed to take a drop in quality and step up in electtrickery. When you're controlling mechanical functions through an upside down pie dish via a TV to a computer to some little solenoid moving some flap at the other end of the car sooner or later you're going to end up in serious bother.

Thats the interesting bit about an RS4,2.0 tdi looks but 440 bhp.

According to the guardian, this is the fastest. Can't work out why.

No contentest. I'd rather drive a pink S40 with TWAT written down it in huge letters than one of those Nitros.
