If you are getting it scrap value, you should take the lot, get all the stuff that you could need and then make money back on the rather dilapidated looking shell. I wouldn't even know where to start - how you would even move it from the front garden?

bung the wheels back on - they are in good nick as they have been dry stored, rent a beaver tail and shift it to my container - then strip all the parts that could be kept/used again - the chrome bumpers for instance are very good as are the seats - once stripped and stored weigh in the shell..

£250 all in for car and parts - £50 to hire the beaver - £300 back for the scrap - net gain a couple of hundredweight of CX parts and a wacky roofrack

save up some dosh or wait till the Euro collapses and then scoot over to France, buy a rolling resto S1 - drive it home and put the bits rescued back on

^ That's what I would do if I had the time. Rent a (very long) council lock up to store it for a bit. :)

Station makes a good point, this car has been owned by someone who loves it enough to document in detail every journey, make a custom Citroen roofrack and cover all the wiring with Vaseline, yet they have also left it on their drive for years with the dashboard out and sills half-welded up under a rotten cat piss tarp. You can only conclude that they have priorities different to every other car enthusiast in the world or are just operating some considerable distance from reality. I would therefore advise running a fuggin mile from their handiwork/this car.

No offence, but what a POS.

No good can come from that sadly, apart from a couple, and I mean a couple of parts. Even the roofrack is a cobbled together thing that even I could probably reproduce in a morning. Please avoid this like the plague.

For your own sanity at least.

Even storing the fucker would be a pain in the arse.

Not much point keeping it in your yard under a tarp as you can see. Plus if you live in a built-up area your neighbours would quite rightly want to murder you if they had to look at that thing every day.

A council lockup would be too small. You'd be looking at renting a railway arch or a unit in an industrial estate somewhere. Otherwise you need to check the weather forecast every time you want to do a bit of work on it....

Insane in the membrane, as Cypress Hill used to say.

Maybe the owners will read this thread and realise that unless they let it go for a lot less to use as a parts car then it will likely stay in that spot for ever more.

The old phrase 'investigate previous repairs' is thankfully not one I have had to action yet and that car puts me right off trying.

Typical of some owners of rotting Driveway hulks.

I loved my CX, it was one of the most interesting and satisfying cars I've ever owned, but sad to say I agree with the consensus on this one. It'll be a life-changer, and not in a good way.

That's very amusing.

Actually the lady is probably a very good salesperson. Thorough vetting = increase customer's excitement. Fortunately you have to hand a forum full of realists to fall back on. (Not that I wouldn't be thinking exactly the same if it was the last 405 around.)

Paint it matt black and stick some Dolly wheels on it

Seriously, much as I love CX's and would love another, that is a job for someone who has a particular reason to save it, you know, like it was his dad's car etc. Why re-invent the wheel and put yourself through all sorts of hoops when others will be available without the cost/hassle etc.

Another 'I love this car, that's why I've left it rotting on the drive for 10 years' enthusiast.

Still, it's only banger racers and modifiers who fuck old cars up, eh?

as above plus the fact that even if you persisted with the project, you will have parted with at least £15k for a car worth no more than one ninth of that. I could understand it if it were a family heirloom, or you already had several k already invested in it, but it will definitely result in £10k disappearing from your net worth. I know this because I did it. I could never do it for a car that I didn't truly know "from the good ol' days" and wished to re-live.

Why not scratch the itch and buy it for a few hundred, and part it out and net few hundred to put towards a Leboncoin crusade.
