vivalariva Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Hey Guys, I was informed about this 'Shite by the chap who bought my Lada Riva & have been having a look round. I wish I'd found this site earlier! My soft spot is for Ladas & for the past 5 years my daily driver has been a 1990 Lada Riva. Why a Lada, well why not?! There are many reasons why I love them but no-one else understands why on earth I'd want to drive one. One of the reasons is they stand out from the rest of the 'shite'! The other intro is for Daisy, Lada Zhiguli who I'd like help in resurrecting. This is She... [/uR Thanks for understanding Regards Clare
vulgalour Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Welcome, I'm sure the Lada enthusiasts will be along shortly, there's a few of them dotted about the place.
RedSparrow Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Welcome! Let me fix that for you... I look forward to reading about your progress, lots of Lada love here.
eddyramrod Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 no-one else understands why on earth I'd want to drive one. Oh trust me, we do! Welcome, Claire, you've found somewhere you can "come out" about Ladas! Here's one of my old ones, from some years ago...
rml2345 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Welcome! That Lada looks like it'll be a worthy save.Do Rivas make decent everyday motors? Must dig the Haynes out and have a browse.
KruJoe Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Yay! Another girl, welcome along! You certainly qualify for membership with 'Daisy'. I wouldn't call myself a Lada enthusiast, but I am in the middle of a weldathon with my Samara.PS I'm not a girl, but it's good to have a few in our ranks.
eddyramrod Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Do Rivas make decent everyday motors? They do actually. I've had two Rivas and a bunch of the Fiat shape and always used them as everyday motors. They lose out to more modern designs on economy and dynamics, but they're strong and surprisingly comfy. And you can make them hustle a bit if you need to.
SambaS Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Welcome. I have to admit I'd love another Riva. Had this in 2005 when I was 18:
Father Ted Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Regards Clare Look Fletch... A woman.... Lovely car, do you think perhaps we could call you Clive? Welcome.
vivalariva Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 Thanks for the very warm welcome & for fixing the photo. I must say it's refreshing to find open minds! I believe Daisy is a worthy save too, she's beautiful, however the rust moths have had a field day with her. The clutch fairy hasn't been kind either. @rml245: I would say that Rivas do make decent daily drivers & would echo what eddyramrod says. I found mine heavy on fuel economy but it is/was 23 & built like a brick privvy! I did get my 1st Lada upto 93 mph on the motorway & beat a boy racer, get in I shall post some more pics of Daisy in a bit. Regards Clare
Lufthansa-Terminal Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Welcome along and yes I am a Lada fan too allthough the traditional pre Riva one as pictured. I had a banana yellow 1300 with a tan roof which was a great daily driver.
Albert Ross Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 "On Tow" sign, buckets, stolen B&Q trolley, rhubarb, orange Lada. What's not to like? Where in this Sceptr'd Isle art thou?
vivalariva Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 "On Tow" sign, buckets, stolen B&Q trolley, rhubarb, orange Lada. What's not to like? Where in this Sceptr'd Isle art thou? I'll have you know it's not a stolen B&Q trolley, B&Q is much too far to drag anything home! I'd close Wickes if anywhere as they're not far! The school I used to work at were getting rid of it & I, in my wisdom, thought I could find a use for it! I'm in sunny Scunthorpe, north Lincolnshire
Albert Ross Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 A mere 20 or so miles..... I could make use of that kind of trolley. I would stand 4 LR engines on it, and it would mean I could actually GET INTO my garage, rather than open the doors and think "F*CK! How do I get to that!"

I say the same when I open my shed door if you feel like driving then you can have it, it'd be a long 20 miles walking & dragging that!
Albert Ross Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 What are your measurements? Erm sorry.. what size is the trolley?
vivalariva Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 Ahem, measurements are 73in (w) x 18in (d) x 41in (h)
MrDuke Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 I have a deep passion for the wee things, and have bored people nearly to tears on the subject in the past. Unfortunately my main obstacle was the lack of a workshop, and any skill with tools (and a completely unreasonable other half who took exception to walking 2 miles home at night when the alternator died ) so I had to wave goodbye to the last one. Still miss it I'd love to see the older one up and running. I may possibly know a man with a spare Fiat twin-cam engine as well.....
Albert Ross Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 That might go on my roofrack....... I shall engineer a reason to vist Sunny Scunny..... Ta muchly! If I could take a peek at your car too, that would be nice!

credders Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 oh from my neck of the woods, like the lada good colour also, will it be stopping in that shade of lovliness?
vivalariva Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 oh from my neck of the woods, like the lada good colour also, will it be stopping in that shade of lovliness? I aim to keep the yellow & lose the algae look that she's rockin' at the mo
SambaS Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Everybody seems to be near Scunthorpe! I live in North Yorkshire, 90miles away. I've not been yet, but I've an interview at North Lindsey College. I've enrolled on a 12 month vehicle refinishing course

The Riva 1500 we had was good enough (if a little crude) to use daily and certainly bombed along well enough. The steering was a bit alarming as it seemed you had to turn the wheel 300 times to make it move but that could have been because the car was old and badly maintained. No idea what they're like to live with for a few years or whatever because some bastard nicked ours.
vivalariva Posted May 6, 2012 Author Posted May 6, 2012 The two inches of play in the steering is completely normal, and takes some getting used to!
mk1_4dr Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Welcome. The Lada looks like a promising project, those round headlight affairs have a certain charm (obviously, Im not suggesting the later Rivas are charmless) Also, seeing as we're all commenting on the Geography, you're not a million miles from Chez_4dr either.
eddyramrod Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 Would Daisy like a trip out to the Lake District next April? Autoshite event pending...
