Slightly serious question.

Afternoon shiters - recommendations/who to avoid for classic (lol) insurance please...

Sam, somewhat bewdildered that Admiral think that a TR7 is worthy of a bigger premium than a Fronterror. At renewal time. Unlike it was when I added it. Wankers.

I always go with Lancaster Insurance. Always seem pretty competitive on price.

I use Adrian Flux. I use the absolute clarity and declaration of mods/upgrades/restoration progress.... They are aware of the new chassis, overdrive, roofrack, alternator, ammeter and oil pressure gauge. Also of interest, is that they were pleased I had Radial Tyres fitted.... All for £85 a year..... Fully Comp with 8k miles limit. It's going up next year.. It's going to get a 10% bigger engine. Maybe a Turbo too.

I ended up going through Performance Direct for the Princess.

One of the old nails is with Lancaster, another with Heritage (part of Norton) and the BX is on a modern policy with CIS. No issues with any of them. In the past Adrian Flux have renewed my policy without asking which annoyed me enough not to use them again (unless lots cheaper).

The only problem I'm having at the moment is finding a multicar policy to put them on. Either the BX is too modern or they won't touch a LHD imported camper van

I'm with HIC (same group as Flux I believe), purely because they were the 10th company I'd phoned in a row, getting £10 knocked off the premium each time, and I couldn't be arsed phoning any more. In the past, I've been very impressed with Brentacre and Footman James. I think it was Brentacre that did a policy with a bhp cap, any modifications up to that point being completely FOC as long as you notified them.

It's incredibly frustrating that even where old cars are concerned, everything comes down to the same claim statistics that applied decades ago. At least, I assume that's why all my quotes for the Scrote were 5 times higher than for a '72 Triumph, despite spares being no more expensive and fifty times easier to obtain. I very much doubt that the accident/theft/explosion rate is the same as it was in the mid-nineties, but hey, insurers know best....

Footman James do an excellent classic multi-car policy, but you need to own 3 vehicles to qualify (one can be modern).

Most of my cars (9) are insured through Footman James - modern & classic, they do me a reasonable deal on the lot as long as theres more "classics" on the policy than moderns. Peter James are also supposed to be quite good.

You need to call these places for a quote as they're specialist departments.

If you're desperate, contact KFW on the blue forum - he has a multi-car policy which covers his LHD imported pick-up, and several quite modern-ish Jap cars as well. Can't remember who with though!

I have got both Ds' insured with Footman James on Classic policies. You have to have a non-classic car as well but no instructions as to which you use as a daily driver.

I am awaiting renewal time with trepidation after my accident last year.

I've used Richardsen Hosken for 8 years now. Never needed to go anywhere else. Pro-rata refunds when you sell a car off the fleet, minimal or none at all admin feeage, no fuss.

Best not try a 'classic (lol) insurance' fib on your daily though with any insurer. They're not stupid and will void it at the slightest chance.

Not my style - insurance is a minefield at best, esp as spent 20odd years in Motor trade...

Need to Insure a mk5 Golf, The Fronterror and the TR7. How hard can it be....:-)

I disagree. Flux know mine's a daily driver. I generally do no more than 20 miles in a working day, sometimes 300 in a weekend. It's a working tool, not a shiny thing. It's often full of tools or Land Rover parts, and mostly at it's upper weight limit......... all declared and confirmed.

Adrian Flux partly because a lot don't seem keen on vans. That said I've just had my renewal and its gone up by about £30 so I'll probably have a bit of a ring round before I actually renew.

Well, then. You're not chancing a fib then are you.

My mixed classic/modern policy with FJ includes unlimited mileage and business use on all cars covered, so no issues about which I use most or for work. Last year the only "modern" on the policy was Daihatsu kei car, and they knew I wasn't using that every day.

Peter James. Three cars, Euro breakdown, agreed value. Good service in the event of a claim too, as I'm unfortunate enough to have discovered. Can't say the same of FJ sadly. Unlimited mileage - which I'm nowhere near taking advantage of.

I have to ask...

The TR7 have you got that on a limited mileage and agreed value policy? I am assuming that the Fronterror is a daily and the 7 isn't?

(oh I use Sureterm Direct if we are saying who we use, found them very professional and willing to beat other quotes).
