I may have done a bad thing - but now know I haven't!

Time will tell . . .

 OMG! - It's a TSE

May need some intensive "Stop buying old French tat" therapy. Think it may have been the headlight wipers - or possibly the fact that I'm getting pissed-off with people trying to make money out of old shite*, whereas I just want to drive it!

*A certain pair of R11s currently for sale at £2000 each may have prompted this.

Will report back once installed at Renault Winterley HQ.

I don't see how this could be a bad thing at all.*

I think you have done a good thing. A very good thing,

Very smart looking car. Well bought, sir.

I saw that and wondered how long it would be before you bought it! How many R9s is that now?

There was a cheaper R11 that ended at about £480 RNM on eBay last week. I was quite tempted (and more importantly Mrs_L doesn't mind another purchase :D ) but need to shift the R4 and Kangoo before buying something big and modern before I buy any more tat.

I had that in my watch list too! Top purchasing!

IIRC Fatha_Duke had a 1.4 'Biarritz' many many moons ago - although it was already getting on a bit, there was no rot on it at all. Did they galvanise them or summat?

Sadly, the entire family (including me) hated it with a passion, and rejoiced when it was replaced with a 740SE. I'd definitely rock one now. Probably only for a few weeks though, I imagine it'd get boring quite quickly.

Trés bon, Renault_18! :D

I think the incumbent President of France should give you the freedom to the city of Paris for saving these classics of a state owned car manufacturer!

Looks a smart presentable daily runner - like the wheels a lot !

Well bought! Forgive the ignorance, where does TSE fit in the renault trim lexicon?

TSE was the top level I think. Struggling to remember what the others were though! My Dad had a Renault 9 Broadway special edition.

Old French tat is the way to go! If only I'd stop falling for post millennium Diamond bearers I'd be able to find out!

At the time the Renault trim levels were along the lines of - TC - TL - GTL - TSE - TXE - Turbo

Except there wasn't an R9 TXE and in some instances there was also a GTX model that sat slightly above the GTL. On R11s the difference between TSE and TXE was (iirc) the TSE was a 1.4 and TXE a 1.7.

I was genuinely a little sad when they changed to RL, RN, RT, RXE for trim levels...

For £499,I'd want it to be at least up and running with a MOT test.I know a MOT test certificate isn't always worth the paper its written on,but if it does have one, there's a fair chance it would drive home in one piece

Well off I went down to Wiltshire tonight to collect (an expensive) R9TSE. However, from the moment I saw it I didn't really care. It is better than the burgundy Avenue. There's a minor scrape on one arch, the new rear exhaust doesn't fit and is blowing and it idles a bit low, hesitating a lot at low revs. But, there's a full history file from day one - all Renault too. In addition, there's also the purchase invoice of not only this 9, but his previous 16TS back in 1976, his 16 TL back in 1972 and his 10-1300 back in 1969 :shock:

The car has obviously been cared for - the paint is absolutely spot-on and the boot's never been used by the look of it. Electrical gremlins mean that the central locking works to rule and the temp guage isn't working, but nothing major. The old guy accidentally put diesel in it last July - the AA call-out sheet and garage bills testify to this!

I'll put up some decent pics as soon as - probably not just yet, as last I heard, a monsoon appears to be forecast - good job those headlight wipers do work :D

Brilliant work!!!! I proper admire your Renner-accumulating skillz. Plus I have spotted your 18 saloon in waitrose carpark at Sandbach which enhanced my shopping trip enormously.
