Junkman Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Gouda. Note how bloody big those Fiat 1400s were. Same in Cologne: A lot of European 50s postcards predominantly show just cars, or car parks. I have no idea why. RayMK and hennabm 2
Junkman Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 This is Hope in Canada. Looks pretty hopeless to me.I bet that "Chevelle" is a Belmont. hennabm, Spottedlaurel and RayMK 3
Spottedlaurel Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 Is that a fiat 850 coupe exiting postcard right ? Hmm, not sure. I imagined something like an early Corolla. A quick image search of the late '60s model shows that it's probably the coupe version.
pshome Posted July 22, 2018 Posted July 22, 2018 no, not the Ivory coast, Mombasa. hennabm, Junkman, Ohdearme and 2 others 5
Junkman Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 That there London, or thereabouts, I think. pshome and RayMK 2
Junkman Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 From a recent trip. That P4 is exemplary for the driving style there, that persists to this day. Always smack in the middle of the road.So the hapless Farina driver had to do what I had to do all the time, swerve onto the verge. Spottedlaurel, RayMK, junkyarddog and 2 others 5
RayMK Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Junkman: Posted Today, 09:38 PM That there London, or thereabouts, I think. I think it's Whitechapel Road in 1965 but there's nothing recognisable still standing. https://www.timeout.com/london/news/in-pictures-the-east-end-as-youve-never-seen-it-before-021218 Junkman 1

RayMK Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 North Thames gas building is now the Al Rayan Bank. Block on the left has gone. 89 Whitechapel road. Well spotted! I could not recognise any buildings on Google Streetmap but you are right. I traced the location by searching for the jewellers A Taite & Sons. Some of their stuff comes up for auction occasionally and from one of the items a link showed the same photo. Junkman 1
Junkman Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Wait a minute! There were jewellers in East Lowdown???
Tadhg Tiogar Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 no, not the Ivory coast, Mombasa. Think Saddam Hussein had something similar in Baghdad... Junkman and pshome 2
Junkman Posted July 28, 2018 Posted July 28, 2018 Okay, this card would be utterly unremarkable and it's from Le Pouliguen, if you must know. But there is this: pshome 1
ChinaTom Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 That train is the moreton central sugar mill tramway right? Bundaberg got rid of it I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MorrisItalSLX Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 That train is the moreton central sugar mill tramway right? Bundaberg got rid of it I think.Yes it is the Moreton central sugar mill tramway. It was closed when the sugar mill closed down in 2003 and the only remaining section is the heritage listed bit that runs through Nambour. ChinaTom 1
ChinaTom Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 However, Attica, Ohio, appears to have no problem beating Madras, Oregon, in sheer shitholeness. That could be Hamilton Ontario today! No, next year when they clear it up and bulldoze the crack-heads into the lake Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Junkman 1
Spottedlaurel Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 From a recent trip............. Spottedlaurel Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 These were in my pile of stuff to be scanned, seemed an appropriate time to do something with them: The Parade, Mundesley complete with 2dr Consul Classic and something a bit older further along? Sandy Gulls Caravan Park is apparently still there. The website says their touring park is for adults only, always makes me wonder what goes on at places like that..... Are the two people in the top left photo trying to break-in to that caravan? Not Mundesley, but of possible interest to our Austrian correspondent. Sent in October 1978 to an address in Letchworth with the following message: "Dear Mick & Julia, Austria is a great place! Very friendly people, beautiful scenery & steam engines! It is also B. expensive to eat and live. Hope work is going well and you are enjoying life. See ya soon. Cheers Dave." That photo pre-dates 1978 somewhat. A couple of vehicles stood out for me, the Commer truck and black Minor amongst the Beetles, Opels and Mercedes. Thoughts about the white estate in front of the Commer? Any other oddities that I've missed? Bus looks quite smart. Junkman, RayMK and AlabamaShrimp 3
martc Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 Thoughts about the white estate in front of the Commer? It could be a FIAT 128 estate, but the only ones I can find are two door, and yours looks like a four door; is there a handle below the pillar? Which is sloping on yours. So maybe it's not... The little green car (in front of the 'Austin 1100' (many variants are availbale)) going the other way could be an Autobianchi 112...

I think the white estate is a Fiat 125 and first thoughts about the nearby pale green car are that it's a Lloyd Alexander estate.
martc Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 Hmmm you could be right with the 125, windows, doors and pillars look right but the one on the card looks a bit too compact. As does the Lloyd/Autobianchi. I do know what an Austin 1100 looks like and on the card it looks 'compacted' so perhaps there is some distortion after all. NorfolkNWeigh and RayMK 2
Junkman Posted July 29, 2018 Posted July 29, 2018 Fiat 125s and 128s were merely science fiction when that pic was taken. It's a 1300/1500 Familiare. Other oddities are the Mercedes Universal by Miesen, '63 Chevrolet Chevy II, Lloyd Alexander Kombi,Steyr-Puch 650, Goggomobil, Skoda Octavia and Kässbohrer Setra S6. At least for me they are. Given the era of the card I'm a bit surprised there isn't more British tat. pshome, Spottedlaurel, martc and 1 other 4

Just to add the final detail to this, albeit irelevant to the post card, there was a 128 5 dr estate in Argentina called the Rural. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Junkman 1
