Hi all

Been hovering on this site for ages in the background. always been a fan of the underdog which this site appears to appreciate. I've had what you would call some rite shite over the years. I'm in the process of digging pictures but of some that jump out i've had Austin 3litre, BMW 2500 (early E1 model) Toyota Starlet, Citroens, Austins etc. I used to work for mitsubishi garage in the eighties so have great fondness for Starions, early Colts, Sigmas, sapporos etc. Used to work on these and in my opinion these are great cars..

Current shite is a 1989 Nissan Sunny, MK2 Festa, Mk3 Capri, Talbot Express. For some reason i've always been drawn to 70's BL shite and dont tell the wife but one day (just to say I had one) i'd love an old Marina van, Austin 1300GT or an Ital estate -- dont ask why cause I dont know !!!

Anyways heres some spots - all recent

Quality spottage. I bought an LT van like that off the bay. Quite a decent old thing really. Swapped it with my mate for his Alfa, think I got the shitty end of the deal

Some tempting shiteage there. The Austin is a 54-57 Cambridge A40 (1200) or A50 (1500). Who would have thought in 1955, 1965, 1975.....that it would still be plodding along after 54 years. A fine beast.

Posted

Is the 'cambridge' not actually an A90 Westie?

Cambridge lights were one over the other I thought...

Where's Seth? He'll know.

Edit: Whatever it is, it seems to be drawing a blank on the DVLA system. Odd.

My Galant should please you then, you might see it at some point as I'm based in Wakefield.

Hopefully if you keep tabs on the shite round here, it'll save me the job!

You're absolutely bang on about the Austin. It's an A90 alright. Apart from the rear lights, notice that the A90 is wider than the A40/A50.Odd about the DVLA thing. Mind you, there is a wonderfully scruffy Riley Pathfinder around here registered as 300MG or MG300, neither of which come up on the 'puter.

Yes i've seen your Galant a few times - absolutley love it, i've done a lot of work on those. I've always liked the next model but the Turbo version, we only ever sold one :-( The garage was at Bramhope just outside Leeds. now a housing estate. I keep meaning to go to some of the retro rides meets cause i've seen your Galent in some of those pics. Just always busy on a Sunday :-(

I keep driving around so i'll make a point to keep updating this thread.

I worked at a Mitsubishi garage called SGT back in 1994. Even then the Starion was a rare car and an interesting factlet; the name Starion is NOT a comedy Japanese pronounciation of Stallion but is the fusing of two words, Star and Orion. The correct pronounciation is 'Star - Rion'. A bloke from Mitsubishi head office told me. :D I worked in sales and we'd get the odd weird p/x such as a Tredia and best of all the gorgeous 1981 Sapporo Coupe. Metallic blue with white trim and white vinyl roof.:lol: Did I see that beige Galant at Harewood on Sunday?

MG300 shows up as a Nissan Navara, 300MG doesn't show up at all. 783APG shows up as a green petrol saloon of unknown make and model.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/vehiclecheck/vehiclecheck.jsp

Bastards. They've robbed a fine old car of its plate to grace some thug builder's pikey pick up.:(

I worked at a company called G Eric Hunt (try saying that fast LOL) I worked there from 1986 > 1990 ish. I saw and worked on a few starions. In fact the Starion was the first car I ever did a naughty speed in. They were going to call the Starion > Stallion but couldn't due to copyrights etc. Hence why they changed it to Starion (your pronunciation is spot on) The amount of bumpers I put on those when the spoiler got ripped off and the amount of bolts was stupid. They used to snap back then through rust and they were only a couple of years old !!!!!!!! I used to love the old Turbo models, Cordia, Colt, Galant etc. The later Sapporo was a great car as well. It was the first production car to be offered with Pearl paint (or so I was told) had electric everything ... For our sins we also sold the Bitter cars from germany - now they were shite but thats another story !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody hell! If that many people are watching me, I'm going to have to make a bit more effort.Hopefully by the next time anyone sees it, I'll have had a shave and cleared all the crap out of the passenger footwell.

Yes I posted it on there - I used to own a Singer Chamois till recently. If you need any bits let me know cause I still have a few left. The car at the side of it was a 3 wheel Bond. (also an Imp engine) Picture didn't come out of that one. The place also had the usual Minors, a 1300 VP, an Allegro and a MK1 Escort (that went surprise) He also had a brand new bodyshell for a Montego & a MK2 Cavalier !!!!!!!!!!! But they've now been sold.

'Gericunt' also had a BMW franchise. I had a silvery blue W plate M535i that came from there. When I was at SGT the Sigma had arrived - a great car those. I liked the Sigma Estate but best of all, the Fanny Magnet that was the 3000GT.
Posted

Sigma estate was a great motor - I had one a couple of years back. Somehow the (usually concerning on a 90s Japanese car) combination of poky V6 and slushbox still worked - despite it vapourising the front tyres out of junctions. I'd like to sample a saloon with the 24v head and all the electrical kit - the wagons were supplied from Oz rather than Japan, and were much simpler in mechanical layout and equipment.

3 door Zastava. Does it get better than that? I think they were originally badged as the 311 and 511 depending on the door configuration, and that 311 was probabily one of the last ones sold. Hell even 45/55s are rare these days.

I was given one in p/x against an Alfasud in 1992, a dark brown 5 door thing on the A plate. the guy struggled to get it through an MOT and tyhen the gearbox gave up - as did he. It was just rubbish.I weighed it into a Darlington scrapyard.

Hey, I drove past that Zastava this week but it was pissing down so didn't take a pic! How spooky is that?

Posted

That Volvo was at the Thornes Park show in 2007 I think, looks familiar!

Now that is gorgeous 8) Very early and totally original, just how I like 'em!
And another one just visible parked in front of it?
Posted

My first car was a D reg mk2 Cav GL saloon in the same colour as that back in 1996. Loved it, but it was shagged and i wrote it off

Couldn't tell you where it was now, I think south of Grimsby somewhere. That red Saab turbo and Yugo are on the same street.

And another one just visible parked in front of it?

He actually owned 3 at the time that picture was taken!! all 4 dr saloons and all low mileage original cars. He's since sold the one at the front on ebay as he found that very early 'X' reg locally with 24,000 genuine 8)

Yeah that picture was taken near Wakefield at a small local show the other week - I took my Capri there ;-) for some reason I really took to the beige look of that motor !!!!!!!!! an old Allegro VP turned up (in beige) later but i forgot to take a pic !!
