Very nice!

Sounds like that Cressida could surprise a few Barry Boys and Sales Reps.:D

it turns out that Insurance companies want a million pounds as a massive yellow car that is almost topped out at 60MPH is just far to fast and dangerous for me to be driving. Coincidentally, Honda Prelude 2.2Vtec, Mazda MX5 1.8, Ford Sierra 2.0 DOHC and Ford Granada 2.3 V6 4X4 RS are all perfectly insurable for me.

Nope, classic policys wont touch me on anything bigger that a 1.8 and bog standard insurance wont touch anything built before 1987. These is literally no possible way. Thats a 19 (half a month away from 20) year old with 2 years driving, in a good area, no accidents, claims or losses and an obvious love for his vehicles.

It also looks like I will be struggling to insure my beloved mk1 Fiesta at the begining of next month as well, despite the policy being fine last year. Sometimes I really don't understand.

Cor, only 19 and you've already owned some EPIC autoshite!

The insurance problem is worrying. FJ were covering younger drivers, but seemed to change supplier due to outrageous quotes for younger drivers. Now they are unable to provide cover at all for under 21s it seems, even for customers they had last year.

Come a bit late to this update but, as others have said, great work. Such an awesome car - love the interior. It's a real shame you're unable to hang on to it, having done the hard work.

Really pleased to see this doing well on eBay - at over a grand with the rest of the day to go. :D

Me to.

I am hoping to get a couple hundred more for it so that I will have pretty much covered my costs and not made a substantial loss on it. I don't like losing money and not getting enjoyment out of a car because of insurance companies lack of logic.

Will still be sad to see it go though. I doubt I will now ever get the chance to drive one of these, and just being a passenger in it put a massive grin on my face.

I'm sure I saw something in the paper a few days ago that insurance companies were doing away with the age limit thing?? I am gutted to hear about the problems you've been having, that really is crap. I'll have a look on some of the other forums that I frequent re: younger drivers.

I took this from the Triumph Dolomite Club forum and it relates to Peter James insurance (formerly of Footman James):

Drivers aged 17-24 will be able to obtain classic car insurance but it will be on a per case basis. It is unlikely that drivers under 21 years of age will be able to insure a Sprint or 1850 with Peter James, but anything under 1500cc shouldn't be a problem. As mentioned though, it will be down to individual circumstances, some drivers may qualify, some may not, so best to enquire.

Hope it helps, fingers crossed for you. It might also be of help joining a club of some kind as well.

A fella I know works in insurance and he tells me if a young driver puts their mum (not dad) as a named driver on their policy this can reduce the cost by 25%.

Might be worth enquiring.

Tried them, for this one they wouldn't insure me at all. I managed to get quotes from some companies but they were from between £2400 and £6900, much more than I can afford to spend when the before mentioned cars can be insured for £1200 or less.

I also tried this, infact its a trick I am using on my current policies, which has lowered it by many hundreds of pounds, but made no difference for this car.
