Theres a Yugo 55A calypso on Vehicle salvage auctions for sale I hope it doesn't get scrapped!

I know about them apparently the Ladas are non salvage vehicles!

Lada is already north of £400. Remember the times you'd scrap them once the fuel ran out?

Yes - all those Eastern Bloc cars lasted 6 - 11 years even though there are still a few around!

That Yugo is EPIC.

I'm having it if it goes for a sensible price.

Do it & reach instant Autoshite legend status!!!!

Arse.

I've been too busy with work to sort out the shizzle for registering to bid on that site, plus our unit's undergoing major renovation at the moment so nowhere to store another project... I'm maxed out on the driveway at home. So I'm going to have to pass on this epic Yugo.

I will have one of the buggers one day though.

The pictures do not do this car justice! I saw it in the viewing area of the salvage auctions near to me on Tuesday and had a look around it as it interested me. It's a brighter shade of red in real life, it has a few small rust spots on the bonnet, nothing major and someone has touched up the bootlid badly in a couple of places in the wrong shade, but it has stopped it getting rusty or any worse. Underneath it appears incredibly clean and the interior is nearly immaculate. It does appear to have been lifted on forks though as it doesn't run, but the only damage appears to be the front end of the exhaust pipe is dented and a jacking point/lug is bent. The rear part of the exhaust has rotted out. It looks like it was last taxed in 1993. I hope this goes to a good home or an enthusiast, as there can't be many left, let alone in this condtion.

Yes, but only from the old 1993 tax disc in the window, as they cover the last three letters in the salvage yard. It's F274 TBD. It didn't show on some car databases, (I doubt it featured on the how many left website) but did on the proper DIrect Gov website vehicle enquiry, and there it shows it hasn't been taxed since 1993 and I think then it was before SORN requirements came in, so hasn't been SORN'd. I'd imagine it's been stored inside as it doesn't appear to have suffered from corrosion, faded paint or perished rubbers or plastics. I tried to find a date on the tyres, as they didn't look perished, but had plenty of tread and looked pretty original. It has a Tring Service Station sticker in the rear window, in Hertfordshire, which has Renault logos each end, whether they supplied it or serviced it I don't know, but I don't think they exist anymore, or not as a Renault dealership anyway.

It appears to have sold, so I hope it's gone to a good home where it will be looked after! I'm all for preserving anything rare or a little different, no matter what it is, it's interesting.

Good for you sir! I think almost everyone here thinks the same way, so you've found your true home! :D

YugoLada, you're welcome, I thought it was worth looking at in a bit more detail.

Eddyramrod, thanks, it looks like a good forum, I'd not come across it before, but it looks like I'll not be an outcast or looked down upon for admitting to being a Volvo fan, mainly the 300 series, the two litre Volvo engine 360 GLT's were my main interest. Then I've got more involved in the 340's, the Renault engined 1.4 variomatic transmission cars (inherited from the Daf/Volvo 66), purely because of the brilliant automatic gearbox, one forward gear, no changes and always perfectly ready to respond. As usual, the myths of unreliability and jokes about rubber bands only stem from a lack of servicing and understanding.

Anyway, if no one had bid on the Yugo, and it looked like it was going to be scrapped I'd have bid, despite having no time, too many other projects and no space, just so it was saved!
