Vauxhall Omega 2.2 heading for the scrappy

A neighbour of mine who is pretty much the opposite of a shiter has parked up their low miles Omega because of a water leak into the footwell. Seems this might be a common and easily resolved problem with these cars, simply clear debris from the scuttle drains. Hopefully

So, the car was parked up only a few months ago, and now that the MOT and tax has expired they want to scrap it. The car is in Cambuslang, near Glasgow. This could be an absolute steal for someone on here. I can't vouch 100% for the car, but I wouldn't be surprised if all it needs is a good clean (a bit dirty from sitting), the scuttle drain holes cleared, and then a relatively painless MOT. They're looking at scrap value at the moment circa £200 pounds, so all you'd have to do is better that - say £300?

If anyone on here wants a look drop me an email on Jeffhancoxatyahoo.co.uk and I'll take you to see it, no obligation (but please turn up in something interesting!). I just can't take it on myself and hate to see such waste :(

It's a silver saloon (shes says it a 'sport'), 47 thousand miles on a 51 plate.

Wasn't there a Scottish Shiter on here recently who wanted an Omega?

Even without space, this sounds like a risk well worth taking at this sort of price. I'd go for it if it hadn't been in another bloody country. Might still be worth a bash if nobody is interested.

51-plate...how bad is the tax on them?

Worth a punt, and the added bonus of having a 2.2 without chain driven cams, unlike the FWD vauxhalls.

Manual. Going to the scrappies on Saturday - did I mention that?

Petrol. Easy on the ebay-esque questions now  Pretty sure there isn't a diesel 2.2 in this car. Not unknown for me to be wrong though.

Cort16 has first shout on this, and is coming to see the car this evening, but as I am so desperate to save the pointless waste of a good car have a crap photo. Just in case :D

I think you can see from that, even at night, how clean it is.

The car starts and goes with no warning lights, as mentioned though sorned with an expired mot, and a footwell damp problem. Even if it is not your bag you could turn a healthy profit out of it.

The reason I'm not taking this car on is that I have recently quit my job because I am in the last year of a demanding Civil Engineering degree, so have zero time or money. At the moment, all I do is sit at a desk and eat pot noodles :( (And Ebay is a nest of vipers).

You should have seen the happyness on wifes face this morning when I told her i was thinking of buying another old car. She was so happy, she didn't even give me a row she just left the house without a word. Now that's love.

I'm sure she'll appreciate it when you bring it home, which you will as it looks like a proper bargain!.

Give me a shout if you dont buy this cort16..im currently on a hunt for a cheap interesting diesel...

cortinadave, you and I must be polar opposites, see earlier in the thread, I didn't know they did a 2.2. diesel version :D

Would you believe I had to stop them getting it lifted by a scrapper for £50? I found out about it within an hour of the scrapper being due. The only reason it is still here is because I told them it was actually worth £200 scrap. NOT that it is scrapworthy, but some people just have a different reality field

If cort16 doesn't go for it I'll update the thread in an hour or two.

arent these the holy grail for scrappy? if i recall they have 2 cats as well?

Okay, a couple of things came to light when cort16 came to look at the car - which he didn't take.

The leak is into the rear footwell, not the front. The damp I found in the front is coming from the rear footwell. He thought the exhaust may be blowing (I'm not 100% on this  ). But the clincher, that made him walk, is that the airbag light was on. Don't know why I didn't spot that last night (maybe because it only ran for a few minutes before running out of petrol), and I reckon it might be linked to the water ingress.

Anyhow, the car is still here, even if it is a bit less attractive. :?

Waderider, thanks for letting me see it.

It's honestly not a bad car at all chaps don't let me not getting it put you off. If you're going to buy this to run as your own car it'd be totally cracking with a bit of work.

I just checked and the MOT changes that make the airbag light a fail don't actually come in til 1st April so you'd have 'til then to get a ticket on it.

The water in the rear footwell is probably just a blocked drain hole in the sill.

There is a little box under each seat where the airbag wiring is. I reckon opening that up with a wee plain screwdriver, drying it out, reconnecting and then getting any garage with diagnostics to turn off the light.

I bet the airbag light is a dodgy airbag connection under the seat (if it has seat airbags) If so its a quick fix.

It's a massive bargain- I hope it gets saved instead of squashed. I'f it were on my doorstep i'd possibly consider it, Out of interest how much is the road tax on these?

Posted

£143.00 for six months.

I wonder if these (cars) suffer from the same problem as the B5/B5.5 Passats, whereby the scuttle panel drain holes block up which cause the rear footwells to flood. If so then it should be a nice easy fix.
