Edd's Talbot Samba Thread

At some point, a perfectly good car is gonna have to lay down it's life to provide the parts to tidy up the red one!

I'm aiming to break a LHD one.

Currently formulating a repair strategy for the white one.

Can be done. Will be done.

There is a moderate amount of welding to do.

Cooling system has void itself while we were riding it about a few months ago. It needs a roof handle, rear window, a service and an MOT!

Ex BenjyP ex C Hill of Simca club fame. Just hit 40,000 miles on drive home!

Last Horizon Ultra left we think. Has French style side graphics. UK Ultras didn't have these.

This cheered me up though, the original compressor for spare tyre, which is always meant to be stowed deflated!

Never seen one before! Always seem to be lost. Cant fault the nice originality of the car

Making some progress. As usual there was more than meets the eye. Inner wheel housing structure had some rot to address.

Got most of the sections made up now. Cleaned up all the areas, tonight started putting in new metal.

Two half days on it so far.

Below pictures are the beginnings of the turret and turret top. Lots of measurements taken and will be tacked with suspension fitted before final welding commences. Best welding will have to come out here, due to the stresses driving will put on the area.

I'm also going to weld in some metal triangles between the new turret sides and the inner quarter panels. There was no metal there before, just seam sealer and paint. I dont even think it came out the factory with metal there.

I miss my Samba, was my first car. Hateful little shit at the time due to all sorts of reliability problems. And rust. Plenty of rust.

I had my first proper shag in it :)

I learned so much from it, I went from 0-100 on car knowledge in the time I had it. I really hope you can find the bits needed to keep it alive.

Indeed, it's good to see you rescuing yet another old Talbot.  Tell me, what PCD are those alloys?  Not that I'll find a set, but I bet they'd look sweet on my little Renault (and I've probably said/asked this before).

3 x 115 PCD = Samba / LNA/ 104

For some reason, Sambas look better than I remember. All of the above is small fry as well, compared to reconstructing a crusty turret. Almost congratulations.

Belated congrats with the Mot on the White Samba Cabriolet and the Style. Great turnaround on the Cabriolet.

Looking forward to seeing your progress on the Red Cabriolet.  Judging by how quickly you turned the White Samba round I reckon you have this done in a day!
