All I've got to do now, is work out how to get it home. (Then get it running, welded, legalise it etc etc)

Lovely! Where is this one located, overseas somewhere?

Posted

Northern France. Its a quick day trip jobbie as soon as I'm capable.

Super cool. I really do like J7s and J9 vans. Camper would be even cooler.

Jealous!

The Incorrigible Monsieur Bikko -large does it again, tres bon, - is that really 30,000 Klicks, or 230,000 on the odometer ?

(and you could put all your camping crockery to dry in that giant rack up on the roof, as you motor back across La Manche 8) )

Excellent! Looking forward to meeting that at some show or other next year!

Wow! Your Anne's a lucky lady...an exotic summers holiday awaits!

Posted

Yup -thanks all.

The Barkas was going to be our summer toy -but I'm not well enough to totally fit out the interior, sadly. Additionally ''her indoors'' queried the advisability of a heavily loaded van with a 1 litre 2 stroke engine on a hot summers day. Whilst I consider it adds to the fun -she might not..

So -this was cheap -already kitted in classic 70's tat, and it looks solid......Engine has no spark seemingly -but that cant be difficult -surely? Till I find its seized.

Anyway -it had been on Leboncoin for several weeks, its only 60 miles into France, so a 12hr roundtrip (meaning SWMBO doesnt need to know about it till I'm happy its a go-er) & the cost was haggled down nicely -from a low start.

What can possibly go wrong?

As an aside -anyone know the pcd on these -might need to take some spare rims- just in case.

PS Luxo- I've already got a 403 pickup (- which hasnt appeared here in several years). I use it as Peugeot intended- its a builders van...

5x190 according to the excellent Carl Salter:

http://www.carlsalter.com/peugeot-wheel-fitments.html

Edit:

This place are offering tubes...

http://www.franzose.de/en/Citroen-DS-11 ... en-Felgen/

Which suggest either 19R400 or 17R400. Years out of the tyre game now but I think that would mean crossply size of 400/17 or 400/19. I would hazard a guess that one is for the J9, the other for the J7.

Edit as I'm editing! This site suggests tyre size of 17R400

http://www.franzose.de/en/Peugeot/Alle/ ... /ANR12225/

This would suggest from description (R=radial) and picture that it's not a crossply.

HOW MUCH?

http://www.vintagetyres.com/item/479/17 ... rt-classic

Tried seeing if other sizes will fit, according to this place the tyres are metric unfortunately

http://www.justanswer.com/uk-car/5gpzx- ... tyres.html

However I recall (from years back) that metric tyres cannot be tubed due to the odd size of them so the above link could be bollocks.

Another (possibly) helpful website is:

http://www.franzose.de/en/Citroen-DS-11 ... en-Felgen/

Oh, it would seem the Citroen HY van had at least the same sized tyres so you might be in luck as there seems to be more of them about. Don't know how you're gtting it back but if you can fix up a suspended tow it could be worth taking some tubes 'just in case' and if the back wheels give up the ghose you'd have two spares on the front.

Any old Peugeot is always great news! Still waiting excitedly for any updates on your Isuzu 117 Coupe .......

Posted

117 is 3/4 welded -made more complicated by flushing all the ridiculous pressed external seams. True cheapskate rust traps. Timetable got put back bigtime by knackered back, but it should be ready for paint by the summer. Funds will then dictate whether I do it- or....

Cos -the Bellel may put all that back a bit...

Ohhhh yes. Oui oui oui, Monsieur Bickle. I can just see the sun setting over that in Betaboy's field on the evening of Bastille Day... :D

Edited to add: sorry, I've been a bit slow and this thread's moved on from 'well bought'. Carry on, as you were.

I have a J7 brochure in the attic, swiped from a Peugeot dealer near Chartres while on a school trip to France in 1978... 8)
