ERTL ?

I dread to think what that went for!

That and the ETRL Fall Guy pickup seem to sell very quickly for strong money

It was in with the job lot so not too terrible. Got a couple of these now in search of a good one

NEWS JUST IN !

It's the same Dude.  Or a very close relation.

I did not know this.  I mean, its not as if there has been past history of British and German Royal Houses having similar facial characteristics and also linked into a war footing...

Can you get Tsar Nicolas II in a Lada to complete the set?

Kaiser Bill, t'Tsar and George the Fifth, all cousins.

I did one last year, but gave it to charity hopefully to inspire some 'gen z' kid about the wonders of the 1970's!

Working on it !

Need to find a cartoonish model in same scale... or it will have to be a Zapo instead.

Looking for a cartoonish 2CV as well

Nice day today... for a bit of rub-a-dub-dub on the long-neglected tat box, retrieved from the back of the wardrobe.

20200414_150438.thumb.jpg.b0fc13e67466fc7b490fb6cd96b94abe.jpg

Some of these were seriously manky - decades of attic dust and general yuk from wherever their previous owner had left them; handling these always leaves my hands feeling unpleasant. So into the sink they went...

20200414_193752.thumb.jpg.aea37528a31db54a86eddbd04c620e44.jpg

...then, after a thorough rinse, outside to dry in the sun.

But at what point does mank develop into patina?

20200414_224332.thumb.jpg.5a084a44cc97f6233b866da264e939b3.jpg

I couldn't bring myself to dunk this Scammell heavy wrecker yet... its abject griminess has a certain hard-won charm, weirdly.

20200414_224358.thumb.jpg.198c9cfd7b653c59d39eb448191c9a6d.jpg

Once cleaned up, I know it'll never look like this again.

So I took it round the flower beds for a last hurrah as a toy.

Also so that it could render assistance to a stricken DAF.

You'd think I'd be too old for this kinda shit...

Even the cat wondered what the hell I was doing, crawling round the lawn on my ample stomach.

20200414_173209.thumb.jpg.4b50354846ea758151617814ced66002.jpg

Seems I really haven't grown up at all...

Plenty more still needing a wash too.

I thought it was time to show off some ambulances...

609099122_Amb001.thumb.jpg.f922c159984e3d6112a0fda9d4fec009.jpg

There is a point.  SpottedLaurel posted pics of some models he wants to sell, and I claimed some.  One I didn't claim was a scuffed example of the Leyland DAF ambulance as seen above.  As you can see, I already have a MIB example, but it's a model I like.  I'm still agonising over it.  The other MIB is the Renault Master/Vauxhall Movano.  In the foreground is my owned-from-new and very overpainted Merc Binz by Matchbox; as you can see, I'm in the process of restoring it.  I've had it over 50 years...

258705396_Amb002.thumb.jpg.6ca1a2ffeedefd74da5f101d7dc1989b.jpg

Here's my other Merc, the 1/36 Corgi Bonna, with the Dinky Cadillac and a smaller-scale Ford E350.

2095929424_Amb003.thumb.jpg.3ea8ffc2c4aecf006d772d0a93291de2.jpg

Another Cadillac, this one by Corgi, and as you can see, it's an "older restoration" by, of course, me.  No idea what happened to the dome light it should have, so I just filled the hole.  Next to it: two variants of the 1961 Pontiac by Dinky.  The blue one is missing its tailgate.  And then you have to have a Citroen, don't you?  I think this is a partwork model.

1298311653_Amb004.thumb.jpg.648228190ab0643132ed58191dac75bb.jpg

I like the Matchbox Transit, seen here in Air Ambulance livery.  I also like Oxford Diecast's Austin K8, a lovely chunky model.  I need a plain van version to paint...  And who can resist the cute little Corgi Bedford?

1343685251_Amb005.thumb.jpg.d2d01a3613438b32bc73293df4ba30c0.jpg

More partworks now, from the Russian series that appeared in Poundland some years ago.  I have two more of the Volga estates, still in their bubbles, and one more of the Transitski still bubbled.  The VW is I think a Cararama.

That pretty-much covers my ambulance collection.  I still don't know whether I should go for SL's Leyland DAF, and I still need an Austin K8 in van form.  And I still have to finish restoring the Matchbox Merc, so you will probably see it again eventually.

Is your Binz a regular wheel?

Yes it is.  I've had it since about 1966.

The blue Pontiac was a gift from a friend.  The white one, and the two Cadillacs, probably came from car-boot sales, I know I've had them a while.

Jon: yes please!

Not a problem!

Washing and sorting is a precursor to some forthcoming sales pitching,  so I'll set that one aside for you - and there's more to come.

In the meantime, have some more pics from someone who really ought to know better...

Matchbox MB72 Bomag road roller at work.

This was a fairly long-lived toy, originally listed from 1979-1981 as a mainline, before suddenly reappearing in 1991 as MB68 and clocking up another four years in the main range. It then put in sporadic appearances in various gift sets until 1999. This one is a Lesney original.

Although I'd cheerfully admit to having no interest in construction models like these, that's not quite true - I used to have quite a  few in my toy box, and very much enjoyed setting up construction dioramas outside.

We used to go to a National Trust campsite outside Downpatrick quite often in the caravan, and there was a small shallow stream on site with a concrete ledge - ideal for playing at dam construction, using my Matchbox toys.

No pics were ever taken, but these were fairly involved dioramas involving dozens of vehicles and accessories, including a large extendable crane which could usually be relied on to 'have an accident', thus necessitating the arrival of all my emergency services vehicles on the scene...

No such drama in the flower beds yesterday, but maybe I should see what else I have squirrelled away...

Here's more for the WDIB conundrums - the Ford D Series.

I am a sucker for a skip tipping mechanism, though.

Oddly, both Matchbox and Corgi produced the D-Series in larger scale articulated form too, but I no longer have either of those to compare.

More hot Scammell action.

This is, according to the Mack encyclopaedia, a less common variant of the K-2 heavy wreck truck - it has regular wheels and the old-style baseplate stating Matchbox King Size, but instead of being white, the shell's painted metallic gold like the later Superkings version with nylon speed wheels. Guess it's a transitional model c.1971.

More man-child flowerbed action still to come!

(I'd built a patio seating set for MrsDC yesterday out of scrap timber, so she just left me to my own devices without further comment.)

Who'll be driving? Marshall Foch for the 'tache action, or General de Gaulle for period correctness but pretty poor upper lip ornamentation?

Either way you'll have to fabricate a kepi.

Seems this was a short-lived model available for 1993 only, and I can remember buying mine from Poundstretcher in Springhill Shopping Centre. I think it cost me a fiver, which was over a month's pocket money.

Weirdly, this went missing at some point and I still don't know where it went. Pity, as it was a brilliant model and worked really well with my other constuction vehicles.

You can see just how big it was compared to the standard range.

image.thumb.png.872ce9be64dc05fc8175014fd7f65188.png

Although the jib extended, I don't think the side stabiliser legs pulled out, so it wasn't all that difficult for it to tip over when in use.

I'm kinda craving that construction set now...

No, I have a magical talent for killing greenery too - to the extent that I'm pretty much barred from doing any hands-on gardening.

I really don't know what it is either - as an example, I was once given a chilli plant and by the time I got it home, all the leaves had fallen off it in the space of half an hour.

Luckily, that means the flower beds are pretty barren in places and so ideal for mucking about with wee toys...

Crikey, didn't know those Hong Kong Ford Econolines appeared in the last-gasp Dinky range... but it does indeed look like exactly the same casting, still being peddled well into the 1990s.

Here's my Hot Wheels 500 I picked up last year (and which is the same as bunglebus's version), if anyone's interested.

Sadly, these aren't as cheap as regular hotwheels, so a slightly inflated £4 would see me recouping my money on it, I think. Postage to the UK may be another matter, though! In an ideal world, I'd prefer something older (i.e. made last century) and more 1/43 sized in an exchange (I fully embrace careworn!), so cash doesn't have to part ways and I sort of hone my collecting.

Or as per usual, be willing to wait for my return trip to Britain to save on postage - which understandably is May 2021, not May 2020 as planned.....
