Shite in Miniature II

There is a rumour that there may be an MG ZT by Otto at some point and the head man has said he is doing some British stuff. Make of that what you will.

As Junkman said, the Ottos are a pretty substantial thing. Pick up one of the Top Marques Fiat / Lancia models though. Its like they are made of lead such is the weightyness of them. Really do feel like a substantial object.

Bit more on the Otto / Solido arrangement. The Solido brand is still owned by Simba Dickie but Otto have agreed to 'manage' it for the nect ten years I think. They are planning two levels of 1/43 - one a cheaper more toy like product priced around €10 and the other a better detailed model for collectors at around €20. The 1/18s should have a price of around €35. Theres also going to be a range of 1/64 stuff which would be nice if we got it over here.

OTTO doing Solido is good news indeed.

I finally have some more news regarding the plastic kit segment.
Other than in 1/18, where you merely have to tell the shite from the newfangled shit, when it comes to kits, you have to dig the pearls out of a sea
of tosh for people who love wars and regret they are over so quickly.

Anyway, here goes. All are 1:24 - 1:25 scale, unless noted otherwise.

The Belkit Escort MK1 I already showed:

Aoshima is doing a Rocket Bunny version of the AE86:

The Ebbro DS:

Ebbro also had these 2CV pick ups, the green one being the type they used in the Royal Navy (note OMGRHD):

And then comes Heller. Talk about some left field stuff here!

I hitherto assumed that their 4L was done in cooperation with the Ebbro effort, however, this is obviously not the case.
It's a completely different setup that has nothing in common.

Hasegawa is waking up to some JDM chod:

The Americans had an entire pavillion where they represented pretty much all their brands under the International Hobbycraft banner.

However, kit-wise there is little new development, most are re-issues, although some of them weren't seen for almost

half a century.

I decided to document my Dinky and Corgi collection as I was clearing out other stuff to sell at the swapmeet tomorrow. These haven't seen the light of day since 2005 so it was nice to see them again.

Most of them belonged to my dad (the tatty ones) and my 2 Uncles (the more cared-for boxed ones).

Others were bought by me over the years at Swapmeets - WELL before Ebay!

Resin is heavy. Those OTTOs can be used to defend oneself in the pub if need be.

That would be an interesting back story as to why one would be defending oneself in a pub with an Otto.

Wooooooo finished the Kenworth

Utter pile of wank though. The moulds were appalling quality, half of the parts were chrome and therefore didn't stick together (and many require painting anyway - pointless) and were weirdly brittle, the decals appear to have been printed on a sheet the wrong size and the instructions only bore a vague relation to what was in the box. Not even the wheels and tyres fitted properly. Incredible. Back to Italeri text time

It's not finished. I also built it from the new production run.

We did have different kits it transpires. My decals were too large to fit on the cab door, as you have done, and my numbers '1352' have a white background unlike yours.

Because someone drew a cock on the toilet door.

I think you did a sterling job and you shouldn't hide your light under a bushel.

You made a plausible model out of the rubbish that was in the box and that's what counts. You should be proud of it.

Everyone can put a diecast on a shelf. Making something nice from a plastic kit is what separates the men from the boys.

I love diecasts, but I'm a plastic kitter to the bone.

I would bet good money that there's not one model in the above pics that I will be able to afford, which is a shame as there are several I would like to buy, both for myself and my friend Costas. I'm positively salivating over those Transits!

I can't "afford" any of them, but I sure will buy some. Mr Lobster, stay tuned. You will have golden times in the near future.

Back when the times were still good, I'd have bought them all, alas, whenever I say everything turned shit, I get slagged and labelled.

Buy that stuff while you still can. Once the NWO has fully rolled out their agenda, you'll regret every model you haven't bought.

Oy, Lobsterman, can you fulfill my plastic kit needs, too?

Posted

Bloody hell Iain! You should be able to eke out a comfortable retirement on that lot! I'd forgotten how crisp some of the Dinky castings were, those Commers are spectacular.

Where's the swap meet? I'd love to go to one but it would be extremely dangerous.

^Seconded!   I fully understand the appeal of plastic kittery but nothing will replace the pure want/need for vintage diecast that can only be satisfied by filling up unsuitable cabinets and cupboards all around the house.   Mint boxed is out of the question these days but constant boot sale / charity shop vigilance does occasionally pay off still.

Trans-0-Lite was the dark sorcery of the pre-digital age and still fascinates me now......

These are with me till the end, lots are a family heirloom. Just can't beat an old dinky. The opening features have a lovely 'clunk' when you shut them which only decent casting, manufacture and age can bring.

The swapmeet is in Falkirk. I'm there now setting up my stall. Had a walk round, it must be what a recovering drug addict feels like when they go to a party.

Isn't the first pic in Iain's post a Mini Marcos with detachable wheels? I thought they were Corgi?

I had one like it plus the Hillman Hunter complete with kangaroo.

IIRC they were called golden jacks.

Oh totally. Nobody with half a heart can not succumb to the charm of old British diecasts.

Absolutely can!

Been an interesting diecast day. Had a look at the new Burago Ferrari range (due April) and they are pretty decent. 1:32 stuff probably pick of the range though the 1:18s are nice and won't be expensive either.

Then to Oxford Diecast. Seen the preproduction Volvo 245 and Vectra plus forthcoming Austin 1100 all of which look good. Also, load of new Welly 1:24s which will land at Castle Lobster in April.

Give me a list of some of the stuff you are looking for and I'll see what can be done.

We don't routinely stock kits but can still get them. In fact, there's an awful lot of stuff we can get but there's only so much you can have in stock sadly.

What kills me every time I order plastic from the States, is that bloody 13 quid 50 ransom money the organised crime extorts from me for each parcel.

Tax and customs then comes on top of that.

I know it must* be taxed, because I'm not paying taxes through my nose as is, but make this an order sent in two parcels, and it's 27 quid up their arses for fuck all.

Pisses me right off, that. They don't seriously expect me not to become a terrorist, do they?

So yeah, if your prices are OKish, I'll buy from you.

Found the rest of my Mini box sets.

Bottom has Red Hot, Ritz and Jet Black. Next up, Italian Job. Above there is British Open, Advantage and Sprite. At the top is Chelsea, Piccadilly and Park Lane. And a sadly knackered box.
