Next up, when is an ambulance not an ambulance?

When it's a Commer 3/4 Ton Chassis...

20190614_090152.thumb.jpg.cd9acaa37730a139ea8532a358710c60.jpg

Which would have been originally supplied as the innovative and versatile Corgi Constructor Set GS/24 (which I don't have, before anyone gets excited - library pics below!)

Two chassis cabs, four rear bodies and, erm, a plastic milkman.

675858112_FatherTed-PatMustard.jpg.8dc9aaeb1f08719bc86598094fc1d865.jpg

Since using the same basic commercial cab and chassis to provide half a dozen different toys was the norm for many manufacturers, this little set offered a helluva lot of play value (that word again). Multiple rear loads enabled the lucky owner to convert one toy into another, using nothing more than a coin edge to turn the little retaining screw on the base, to suit whichever imaginative scenario was being played out. Genius.

It really does have a lot of charm, and I'll admit that at least half my motivation for picking this one up was already having the pick-up back, found in the tat box a few weeks back.

Is it a bit tragic that I can't wait to get home and swap the back over?

You may have noticed that the red Commer chassis cab shown in the Constructor Set comes with Corgi's equally innovative 'Trans-o-lite' headlights, which basically used an optical pipe to concentrate ambient light and direct it to give the illusion of illumination - kind of a proto-fibre optic system, with no need for batteries.

Well, the white chassis didn't benefit from that system, but it's always intrigued me...

So I also bought this, completing the 100% Corgi sweep for this morning.

Buick Riviera, in chipped but honest condition. Also fitted with Trans-o-lites. So I coughed up.

Does it work, though?

Y'know, it kinda does! Potatocam pics don't really do it justice, but it's a very pleasing effect.

So yeah... not a bad haul for this morning.

I'll head over in half an hour and see if I can grab the Lesneys for Amishtat (hey, there's no shame in hammering the F5 key on a Friday morning - they'll all be kicking themselves later on!) - and, while I'm very much enjoying looking at these old Corgis, they're not really where my passion really lies these days.

So if anyone wants the Riviera, Commer and/or Thames Camper, I paid Market Blokey £5 each for them - and I'm offering them out here for the same money.

[EDIT: Thames and Commer have both been snaffled!]

That's but a fraction of his collection. He had all his Corgis and Dinkys in similar condition until about four years ago when my evil cunt of an ex-stepmother decided she was going to rook him out of them. Despite multiple tries I've never been able to find out where they went but if I ever see her again I'm throwing her useless carcass on a railway line. Aaaand breathe...

Yow, that's horrific! Yeesh... ?

Happy to rehome the Thames if you're offering, cheers!

But on a more positive note... sure thing!

Saw u lot talking about maestros, i thought oh i got one, what goes in the flap?

20190614_115708.jpg

I thought it ran off two AAA batteries - think there should be a bulb unit clipped in there as well, which might have gone walkabout on yours...

At least Corgi put a proper flap on this one, earlier Corgitronics had a clip-on cover that usually fell off and went missing.

Nice model though, good to see yours!

Dinky 128 Mercedes Pullman has a few scrapes and is missing one front light lens - and rear passengers? - but seems not too bad overall, and priced at £5.

Matchbox Speed Kings K42 Nissan 270X is complete but with some paint chips, although also some pressure damage to glazing canopy (small cracks, not busted) and a wonky back axle..

MB Superkings K7 Racing Car Transporter is missing the loading ramp and cover, and paint is quite faded with the odd chip but otherwise pretty decent.

Dinky Supertoys Vega Major coach is missing the interior and engine hatch, so might be a slightly pricey resto project at £10.

I think the Yorkie trailer in the tat bin is the Corgimatics one

I hoped it was too, but it seems to be just a standard trailer I'm afraid!

I think the Vanwall under the Turbine truck that deafened the giraffes is the Airfix slot car and I would like it if poss and not too dear

Yep, it is indeed... Will head back shortly and check it out. There's a back wheel missing, the slot guide is also gone and there's some glue to the upper and lower mouldings, but I'll check the price - how much is too much, given the state of it?

Some hot Corgi BENZ action.

eBay trigger finger purchase W114 DIESEL RALLY CAR arrived yesterday

Found in a 50p distressed state at car boot sale the other week, complete with its windows put through; a W123 BONNA AMBULANCE.  May become slot car, in banger livery, with added bonus of being heavy enough to uproot the plastic armco and clout the skirting.

Glue is a worry, indicating it's been taken to bits over and over...

I have guides and wheels so if the motor is in there perhaps £8

Well, here we have it:

Scalextric C.55 Vanwall F1 GP car.

Turns out I was wrong: it does have the slot guide, I'm just not that familiar with the early type of looped braids system.

Motor still in situ, although one wheel and the exhaust pipe are indeed missing in action.  I'm not convinced the wheels are original, either.

Seems the glue is there because the body and base have warped, and someone's gone to town on the UHU in an effort to repair/prevent it getting worse.

I daresay that even as a parts donor, this is still worth the £4 charged, mind!

Happy enough to take it?

In the Police Landrover one it has a 9v battery connection.

Can confirm Torino and Radio Luxembourg use PP3 too

Further to this, the Angus HCB Firestreak and Chevrolet Caprice Fire Chief also run on 9V/PP3  battery - the Caprice via a compartment on the underside, the Firestreak through a recessed hatch in the rear (which surely had a cover when new - mine came from a Scout jumble sale and didn't have one).

My police Land Rover was also odd - on opening the rear door, there was just a load of wires and a battery connector. Once installed, the battery just knocked around in the back of the Landie. Was it meant to have some sort of battery carrier to prevent that?

Airfix wheels indeed...!  They are off the Scalextric Porsche 804

Yes please with a cherry on top, it will (should) have a proper sixties RX motor and I need one of those anyhow.  Has Triang stamp so has the earlier loop braids, perhaps metal contrate gear and brass bushes too

Repro exhausts available for the price of a pint of eurofizz

The Lesney Ford station wagon (yellow), the A55 next to it and the lilac/white Cadillac please! And what's the transporter in the right of the last picture?

Fear not - I hadn't forgotten!

Quite a nice rig, that.

20190614_155527.thumb.jpg.35b3505933bce99a346e8e7e6ed3d796.jpg

Very yellow. Very nice.

20190614_155539.thumb.jpg.c460a9300fc3f9ca82aa7e639f1b4ebe.jpg

It's more in focus in real life, promise.

20190614_155602.thumb.jpg.1b5f509ecd630e529ae9c09e38cf4ae0.jpg

This has been unpleasantly Humbrol'd, BUT looks in otherwise reasonable shape and the glazing is uncracked.

20190614_155620.thumb.jpg.260214e8933b51b838ecb6442b7bbaac.jpg

So there we go. Blokey charged £3 for each of the cars, and £5 for the transporter, so overall I think that's not a bad haul for £14... hopefully you're content!

Of course, I couldn't just leave it there...

20190614_155655.thumb.jpg.9288ac48c4c2b9db14bb3fa327c7ffff.jpg

I initially spotted the Majorette DHL Fourgon van at the top of the overflowing tat box; it appears to be quite a late casting in is in decent nick.

So I thought I may as well round it up to a pound, so rummaged about and then found an example of the 'not quite right' Range Rover I'd mentioned last week (hurray! now I can do a comparative photoshoot for the Mk1 Range Rover in Matchbox, Corgi Juniors, Lone Star Impy, Majorette and Siku formats).

20190614_155725.thumb.jpg.4aa3c218b05aacc94a1ef967b3d11550.jpg

But then I dug around a bit more, and found a very grimy Transit - not sure if UniChem was a mainline livery, or if this was a Code 2 promotional.

20190614_155742.thumb.jpg.16f6ee04baa6ef441bf99830210f2545.jpg

And, finally (really), the earlier casting of the Matchbox BMW M1.

20190614_155749.thumb.jpg.7e88ddb8aae9e6aec5288d0c09c05173.jpg

I particularly like the front luggage hatch that opens to reveal... nothing.

Another hard day at the diecast coalface, kids... phew.
