Don't forget Majorette did a few Hondas,Toyotas,& Datsuns  :-)

There's the Playart & Yatming cars as well, but they're harder to find.

I want that Datsun Cherry 100A in 1/43 scale, but they are like rocking horse crap! It's not even been done by Whitebox, sadface!

I have a few Tomicas picked-up over 20+ years:

They certainly don't appear at the local fairs and sales very often. I don't want them so much I'll go trawling on eBay for them.

Tomica Limited Nissan Skyline box set (S54, C10, C110, C211, R30) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I bought this set of Skylines at a show. However, I never felt very comfortable with getting something that was made to be collectible and I was happy to sell them on again - I think they were bought by someone in South America.

I have almost no Japanese mini-shite apart from 3 tiny N gauge models of a Prince Skyline, a Cedric and a Bluebird.   Too small to even photograph, they are quite well detailed though.   Can't even remember where I got them except they were in a job lot of unrelated stuff.

that corgi mazda pick-up from the last page is another blast from the past.

i had the yellow motorway maintainence version with the hydraulic platorm basket thing in the back

s-l1600.jpg

mines long gone now, though fondly remembered! it was as i remember a really nice model too, though been a nipper i may be mistaken.....

though the fact that it is remembered after god knows how many years means it was i think a good 'un!

I have a couple of Corgi Preludes; the blue one was the general release I think, and the white one was supposed to come as part of a set with something else, but I can't remember what.  Corgi made some really nice 1/36 models, at a time when imported cars were becoming more common on UK roads, and their range reflected this trend.

i have been and bought some more old diecast toys.

nothing unusual or foreign i'm affraid, but some (well they seem to me) odd choices for a model/toy

bought these two the other day while at the NEC, we'd gone to the restoration show, and seeing the quality of the vehicles on display, just reinforced the view that the vehicles i own are all shit boxes.

so, to cheer myself up, i was able to get these in the autojumble bit of the show.

this is a Lomas AMbulance, it is a Bedford chassis, and has both of the opening back doors, which is nice when it only cost a couple of quid to buy.

post-18270-0-62934700-1522536440_thumb.jpg

then i bought this, it is a Ford D-series "Johnston" road sweeper. i had one of these as a kid, though i don't remember whether or not the cab doors opened or not. early versions did, later ones don't.

post-18270-0-50841900-1522536583_thumb.jpg

best part though is ths, what goes on underneath. if you have not seen underneath one, that drive belt (actually a really fine spring) drives both the horizontal and vertical brushes as the truck is pushed along, which i think is pretty neat.

then today cos i was in mood over the non-functional brakes on the black mini, we decided to have a run into Whitby, i have had my eye on this for a while

damn you Bedford, for making (in the old days) such fine looking Trucks and Chassis! it is the most expensive old diecast i've bought (£25!!!! i must need my head seeing too) but it has been whispering to me for months...... and i could resist no longer!

and then this, its a repainted Daimler Ambulance, it was another daft couple o'quid type purchase, but it been nicely done, and it too just spoke to me.. and it makes quiet a contrast to the Superior Criterion ambulance already in the collection

post-18270-0-45779300-1522537322_thumb.jpg

now one thing i had not considered, the Road sweeper and the Fire Engine are both based on commercial chassis. and those are bigger than cars....... you daft bat, they are too flippin' big for the display case thing!!!

Norevchryslerwise I can now at least outnumber 59Impala.

26275079267_84b95c96e4_z.jpg

Like with real cars, I bought this lot sight unseen, hoping I can knock up at least two or three good ones.

However, that's not going to happen, because each one is fucked in its own unique way.

The turquoise one is delightfully warped:

26275077837_e06eba3fc6_z.jpg

One of the grey ones is sadly grey.

27273421668_bc020a7539_z.jpg

The neon orange one has rotten sills due to someone attempting to glue them to the baseplate:

26275076157_43b211dbb5_z.jpg

26275075387_ccc134fb05_z.jpg

The other grey one is apart from sadly being grey the straightest of the bunch.

But it has a chipped fin:

26275074197_63ed32b5b3_z.jpg

The fuchsia one has a cracked body:

26275073217_9971051106_z.jpg

Why is it that I just can't win?

Despite I'm not collecting cheesy "Souvenir" London Buses, I buy them whenever I find them for sale.

(I really should do a separate post for them one day).

Imagine my delight when I found this typically London Transport Bristol Lodekka.

After removing those extraordinarily half arsed graphics, it'll be a blank canvas for some daft stuff.

Whenever you find a box like this

you know you are in for some gold quality shite.

This one in particular contains some LBGT Pride liveried Rancho shite:

Next I finally happened upon some of the new Matchbox shite.

In particular, here we have

A '63 Caddy Ambulance in SURFYO spec:

A bloody cool Bobcat:

An Ovlov P1800S that is in dire need of graphicks* removal:

27273944468_41ebb29ced_b.jpg

An ice cream van (I do collect ice cream vans, don't ask!):

40435847544_8a5c6464bf_b.jpg

Which, if you open the sliding door, makes the ice cream vending dude appear in the window.

However, this is difficult to photograph:

I said it's difficult to photograph, but isn't it delightful that daft gimmicks haven't died out after all?

Jeep Scrambler:

Willys Jeep:

27273939178_6af0330344_b.jpg

Lime pearl '68 'stang Notchback, which despite being a '68 'stang is delightfully un-Bullitt-spec:

40435842404_467959f0fb_b.jpg

And this mucho kewl water balloon delivery truck:

which looks amazing when it's backlit.

LOL at that bus...."3+" on the box when many a two-year old would realise how Rong it is!

I have that Jimmies Ice Cream van, yours is much nicer than mine as it was not owned by me as a child.

I beleive my grandparents bought it for me as it lived at their house, the opening door that made the ice cream man come to serve you was witchcraft to little me.

Bloody hell, it makes me feel very young when somthing from my childhood is described as "new".

After about six years, I've FINALLY decided what I'm doing with this bashed up Dinky I was given shortly after buying the 1:1 scale version.  I've bought a reproduction glass for it that was very cheap which will hopefully replace the knackered original.  Wasn't sure on a colour until I found a tin of almost full Ford Velvet Purple in the garage.  Still plenty of fiddly hand painted details to go.

post-5335-0-17420400-1522616757_thumb.jpg

This little lot were varnished today.  I'll get some pictures when they've had time to fully cure.  I don't like Mustangs very much so I deliberately painted the one in this group Texan Grandma Beige and I like to imagine it's got a horrible small engine and a nasty automatic gearbox to compliment the tow bar on the back of it.

Looks good. I got as far as bringing my 1:43 Heller Princess kit into the house this morning. Didn't do anything more than that of course, but hopefully I can put in a few minutes here and there and actually get it finished soon.

I've got the same kit!  Never got further than being annoyed that they're left hand drive, really.

Yep, the white Prelude came with a buildable glider inside a trailer, rather impressively! Never remember seeing this on the shelves at the time (1982 catalogue).

post-17915-0-95090700-1522629839_thumb.jpg

Also came in yellow for 1983 catalogue year, apparently. But not if you happened to be French. Zut alors.

post-17915-0-43268500-1522629897_thumb.jpg

I happened to find this blue general-release Prelude in good nick in a charity shop a few years back. Doubt I paid more than a pound for it.

post-17915-0-48209000-1522629992_thumb.jpg

I am still very attracted to this scale of toy - even though they're an arse to display. Corgi did some real crackers in the late 70s/early 80s, while Matchbox were still finding their Superkings feet with inconsistent scales and weird fantasy stuff, and Dinky were going straight down the tubes. I mean - who wouldn't want these fine models in their toybox?

That Opel Senator in particular is one I'd still covet even now... and yes, the red Pug 505. Just gorgeous.

Added play value with Corgitronics battery-powered shenanigans!

post-17915-0-41199900-1522630355_thumb.jpg

I had the Maestro, fire tender and police Land Rover, all second-hand.

post-17915-0-80214900-1522630475_thumb.jpg

Also the Radio Luxembourg van - still have that one, in fact.

post-17915-0-75840800-1522630725_thumb.jpg

But yeah - some weird choices of model. I mean - Corgi already did a James Bond underwater Lotus Esprit - how hard would it have been to make a roadgoing version of this attractive mid-70s sportscar? But no - Corgi did an Elite instead, which had slightly less dashing lines (other opinions are available). Note also the mystery 'New Saloon Car' trailered, which appears to be the new Renault 11 - I never remember seeing these on the toyshop shelves, sadly - I would have been very interested.

post-17915-0-05354900-1522631388_thumb.jpg

I still find it hard to understand why both Corgi and Matchbox produced Matra Rancho models in large and small sizes, when they remain a car I never recall seeing on the road. I remember getting quite frustated (as a child!) that the Rancho cropped up again and again in gift packs etc well into the 1990s, because I had no frame of reference for them. They only existed as toys for me, not real cars. I was a weird kid, though.

post-17915-0-38232400-1522630930_thumb.jpg

The Corgi Junior range never seemed quite as desirable or well-made to me as the larger cars - scales were way off (the Metro dwarfing the SD1, for example) and proportions were quite odd - the Jaguar XJ-S seemed ludicrously wide compared to its length, while the Porsche 911 Carrera appeared strangely dumpy.

Interesting also to see a proposed DeLorean DMC-12 in their 1982 catalogue, of which I can find no trace beyond this page.
