Probably of more interest to you all are these Corgi & Dinkys in good order for a reasonable price, not cheap enough for any to be purchased though!

If I'd really liked it, I would have got it, but (don't tell Eddy) I'm not a great fan of finned yank tanks really. We may go back anyway as there were three cyclists and Mrs Concern now wants the third one!

They seem, or did last I looked, go for more on eBay. You might make a few quid off it if you don’t want it yourself.

Todays filthy but cheap finds at an accidental bootsale visit - 2 in 2 days! All absolutely hanging and have been soaking all afternoon.

Still £5.50 the lot from various filthy sellers is a bargain! All shots on location on my equally grubby workbench!

But not from me unfortunately.  Not because I don't like or want it; I do!  No, sadly the only reason is that I'm a mingebag with pockets considerably deeper than my arms are long, and nothing but lint in them anyway.  Anyone who's traded with me knows that!

We all know this. Lucky you have all the members of an obscure forum scouring the boot fairs and flea markets for cheap shite for you! Haha!

Here's the Matchbox Regular Wheels that I got the other day.

First is a Ford Hanglia.

I might paint this grey to match the first car I remember my dad owning and bouncing around on the back seat.

A couple of bit of plant that have not been hired that much. Amazingly the Catapillar has complete tracks. The Weatherill is a second issue with grey plastic wheels.

Still with the sprues on, excellent. I didn’t used to like the Regular Wheels as a kid as they didn’t roll well and they were too small to match the later models. They were also at that time where everyone thought ANYTHING old was worth a trillion quid so because everyone handled them like they were pure ten tola gold bars I felt a bit resentful of them. 😂

Now people have got a handle on themselves and realised they made tens of millions of them and that unless it’s a Beales Bealeson van or something they’re not worth all that much I appreciate them more.

In the 90’s people went a bit mad, if a pile of dog shit had Dinky on it everyone thought it’d be worth a ton.

In the 25 years or so that I have been going to auctions I have seen the prices change. The old stuff still commands the big money when mint, and mint prices have risen. But for stuff that is not minty mint, then they have pretty much stayed at the same level, so if you take inflation into account that have actually gone down in value.

I have seen the price of later Superfast and 80's Matchbox increase, Corgi Whizzwheels have started to go up but because cars were not as popular as Star Wars with a lot of '80s kids, the contemporary stuff from Matchbox/Corgi/Dinky can still be had quite cheaply, even when Minty Boxed.

But one thing that has gone mad over those last 20 years is the price of some Hot Wheels Redlines.

After getting that Custom VW at auction last week and seeing what it was supposed to be worth I put a couple of non sunroof Custom VWs on my favourites bar to see what they went for what was stated.

Well one of them finished yesterday.

It’s crazy the price on some Hot Wheels. I think it’s partly a bit of a resurgence in people’s brand awareness of them but also American collectors would think nothing of blowing a couple of hundred on one.

Superkings have supposedly gone up a bit but it seems only for really mint stuff. Unpopular I know but Matchbox from around mid 90’s to early 2000’s seem hard to find, unpopular because of the spiral wheels etc but maybe people will long term look for them. I just buy what I like though to be fair, I’ve got a few things I’d like to tick off around Superkings but it’s mainly getting better condition ones to replace to rough ones.

I had 15 years out of it when I was off spaffing money on going out and holidays etc before I had kids so I’m ‘behind’ in that respect. I came back into it when purely by chance my eldest was about 9 months old and I saw Matchbox in the shops, as far as I knew by that point they could have ceased trading years ago. I remember buying her an Aqua King in green and we’d have a ritual of going every week and picking one, like I’d done with my mum as a kid. Ironically at the same shops! Obviously she’s grown up now and wouldn’t be seen dead looking for Matchbox cars. That said she still has an MB Porsche 911 Cabriolet as it’s what figures she’ll get when she is older 😂. I probably thought much the same about the Testarossa and the 959 I had as a kid…

I'm just scratching my head wondering what your workwear could be to attract the undivided attention of a security guard!

Still, some great finds there - nearly everywhere I've been looking lately has only a handful of old 2024 stuff on torn cards, so I'm hopeful that some of the new cases will be landing shortly.

Just my railway branded uniform, with my employer name right across the front, unless a colleague of mine has been up to no good.

Waitrose was pretty desolate until very recently, all the ones I've visited have been better, better than any other supermarket confusingly. Heck, even the massive Poundland in Southampton was half decent.

The snapped off wheel retaining pegs had to be drilled out, now each wheel has its own, short axle in a 1mm hole drilled into the base. I'd hoped to go all the way through but there are now two snapped off 1mm bits in that base somewhere!

I wanted to use the RS 4 spokes but I'd have had to drill holes all the way through them or have them fixed in position. Probably doesn't matter on a static model but I wanted them to roll. Small diameter Hot Wheels rims fitted under the arches.

I decided to paint it with the doors shut and leave them that way, as they're so tight they will chip the paint off if opened.

Annoyingly I forgot to polish the glass, and now the wheels are on it won't actually come apart due to the way the base is retained by the rear bumper...

SVX 228W is long dead, but at least I have a tiny reminder to sit in the cabinet next to my dad's 2.0S Cortina

I haven’t done any model stuff for some time, but I have been working on a project that is related.

Building a new model room!

16’ x 8’ shed. Annoyingly the only place I could put it was on a part of the garden that slopes so I’ve built some brick/block pillars to support the end. The rest sits on a concrete base but all the floor timbers sit on bricks cemented in place to stop the wood getting wet and rotting.
Back wall is covered in aluminium cladding (powder coated green on outside) as it needs to be maintenance free on that back side.

Got most of the roof boards on today and the front wall framework yesterday so it’s a bit closer to complete than in the photos.

I can’t wait to get it finished tbh and start actually doing something again.

I’ve gone overboard with this!

All the tops of the brick/block supports have a strip of damp proof strip between them and the timber. The floor has that foam & aluminium foil insulation between all the joists then a layer of damp proof breathable membrane over the top then the OSB (18mm) board.
Walls have/will have the OSB (9mm) boarding attached to the framing, then a layer of ‘house wrap’ damp proof breathable membrane over that, then a layer of shiplap boards on battens (for an air circulation gap) on the visible sides. On the inaccessible back it’s the same but aluminium cladding instead of shiplap boards.

All walls and roof will be insulated then panelled inside too.
Floor frame and joists are all C24 4’’x2’’ pressure treated smooth planed timbers, wall and roof framing is all C24 3’’x2’’ pressure treated timbers. Windows are all cheapo UPVC double glazed ones.
It’s a hefty shed but it should last well.

I’m no builder, you can tell from my amateur bricklaying on the end pillars, but it’s all strong and level. The tall end pillars are actually deep. I dug down probably 1’ to 1.5’ then compacted some crushed up rubble into the bottom of the holes. Then found some big (and heavy) concrete blocks in the garden so they went into the bottom of the holes, then were levelled up. Then the pillars built using some concrete brick things left laying around in the garden below the ground level (so the moist soil won’t damage them over time) then a mixture of the remaining concrete bricks and recovered house bricks used above ground level.
Once that had set, the holes were packed with more rubble and a bag of coats concrete poured into each hole to fill it to ground level.
Im pretty sure they aren’t going anywhere!

Made a slightly embarrassing discovery earlier, of two Matchbox still wrapped up from a delivery earlier in the week, I missed them when unboxing a job lot. Not sure if these are Graffic Traffics or not but they're all white, Lumina and Thunderbird stock cars
