What seems like an absolute age ago, I ordered this Hot Wheels sELECTIONs Drag Bus. It finally arrived, and is very shiny indeed

My personal preference for these RLC cars is for them to come in the display case like the Kawa Buga Beetle, so you can have a proper look at it and put it back afterwards. Apparently some collectors insist Hot Wheels have to be on a card, nowt queer as folk eh?

The underbonnet pin thing always confused me on my Polizei  one as well.  I also originally thought it was to help open the bonnet but I'm guessing it's where the steering mechanism connects together between the 'wheel'and the steering rack. I briefly thought it was something to do with ease of assembly so the 2 parts connected together after the model is put together by slinding the pin down inside the body. I reckoned it would be a bit fiddly  trying to marry up the base whilst also trying to connect the steering. But the later models like the learner driver had no opening bonnet so how would they assemble that then? A nice wee mystery!

Posted

I haven't got pics of one in bits, but I think I found four (!) in various states while going through my projects box. I'll have to disassemble one and show how it goes together, maybe someone will explain what that mystery pin actually does!

The metal pin on the VWs is supposed to push the bonnet up if you press down on the front wheels, but it takes one hell of an effort and feels like it will break something. Think there was a Jaguar with something similar?

These are right fiddly feckers to assemble, here's how it goes on the base, steel pins locate between the body and base for the wheels to hinge around

Glad you are pleased with the win!

The orange Corgi Beetle in your pics was my childhood one that started as a Polizei one and I sort of converted to a rally version. As I had that one from new in the 60s when it worked and I'd taken that plus another one I got from a mate apart I knew it was meant to open the bonnet, but due to being out all day yesterday, I've only just seen this discussion.

It's tempting to go and pick up a bargain as those have a high chance of going cheap because the auction house does not list on-line and stick loads of pictures on the internet.

Unfortunately according to Bing Crosby I am 284 miles and 4 hours and 43 minutes away, that's a whole day and about £100 in petrol. A bit far on the off chance I might get something cheap to make it worth my while.

The one and only time I went, there were a couple of familiar faces from the toy fair buying everything. There was also a very annoying man who I think was coked off his head as he could not stay still for the life of him and was constantly striding around the room, despite it being pretty packed. He put in a ridiculous bid of about £60 on a box of those yellow box petrol station promo pull back cars, which was about twice the current bid. No-one tried to outbid him funny enough

Not picture heavy unfortunately as I'm away enjoying the sights of Ireland in a motor home and just using the single photos I take for my Flickr database.

Loads of bits and pieces have gone through my little photo booth today, mainly the roffle stuff but also some more job lots I won while bored on eBay

First of all is a tatty but complete Corgi Mercedes SL

What have we here? A Sunnyside Superior Rover SD1, which uses a borrowed Dinky casting with the addition of a pull-back motor. I've got another somewhere that had no tailgate, and a Dinky one fitted perfectly, only difference is a light blue tint to the glazing on the copy

It's funny how some things that were until very recently in my possession and I had little or no interest in sudenly become interesting when displayed by someone else!

I had thought the Lone Star Zodiac or the Champion GT40 would have been the stars of the Roffle, but then I don't really get the small scale stuff.

Most of the bits including the blue Europa I added to the previous roffle stuff came from the boot fair suitcase I had.

Edit; I've just seen the next post made while I was typing which addresses this
