I found some less Common catalogues on eBay so I'm trying to get them scanned. Three are large format Corgi, A4 but printed across two pages as A3 - I don't have a scanner that size unfortunately

Here's the first

That's because you have the small Jaguar with the plastic base, and the big Citroen with the metal base!

Nice score on the redlines, it's good when they fall into your lap

It's a bit like that game where you have items on a tray, cover them up and remove one to then work out what's missing. Think I was in here a month ago and it looks the same

I've done a bit of research on the No Sunroof Volkswagen Custom I got the other day.

DSCF6672.JPG.8cd60175376652be37aebb8e67f0103c.JPG

It's been enjoyed.

DSCF6673.JPG.9dd52f775ed138bb8ba918b0bec1537f.JPG

Rear axle is bent, but it does look like a VW that has had it's spring plates adjusted for a drag stance.

Hong Kong on the base, but then all Non Sunroof Custom VWs were built there. Also they were only sold in Europe, mainly in Germany and the UK.

No using the NCHWA Price Guide

NCHWA Redline Central: 1968 Redline Price Guide

HWVW1.jpg.2edb9123d2beed45bdbed9d2d8bd6264.jpg

And the NCHWA Condition Guide I have come up with this value.

NCHWA.com Redline Condition Calculator

HWVW2.jpg.50b757dd0bc06cb6fea95860d8eea2dd.jpg

I find it hard to believe that it will be worth $165, but even if it was graded at 1 NCHWA suggests that it would be worth $55.

So it was on to Ebay UK to see what is currently on the site.

I bet this one will be on Ebay for a while.

HWVW3.jpg.a979bf495b837cb4dfb2018cb8f5b9de.jpg

This one is better than mine, but already at £25

HWVW4.jpg.2a45bbbf3831a6fb04b18c6352f20745.jpg

This one is slightly worse than mine and has an opening bid of £5

HWVW5.jpg.7a311309a7b24427b15c005dfd0082a5.jpg

I'll check back in a few days to see what the two auctions made. For now I will be keeping it as I have decided to start a collection of tat box Red Line Finds. Casting my mind back to 55 years ago I can not remember exactly which Red Lines me and my brother had, but I do remember a Deora, a Custom Firebird and a Custom Eldorado.

Very nice - I had a Custom VW which was a little rougher than yours, probably picked up at a school fete or car boot sale in the early 1990s.

I didn't even realise it was particularly rare, so it just lived in the giant brew bucket where I used to store all my playworn diecast.

I moved it on a few years ago as part of a job lot clearout - think it went to @bramz7 in the end?

What a terrible photo! The Hot Wheels job lot in question.

I think this is the only pic I have of my Custom VW - right at the back, behind the very pink Baja Bug.

Actually, turns out I did take a (slightly) better pic.

My youthful fun with a Tamiya silver paint pen hasn't done the wheels any favours, that's for sure.

Yes I did end up with that Beetle, I sold it on eBay for some reason and it did go for triple figures. But I wish I'd kept it now.

I still have the Commodore, Citation and Aries wagon though.

I had a green one of those custom beetles without sunroof. It was a hand me down from a cousin I think. It got passed on to my cousins kids with most of my other toy cars years back which means it’ll be landfill by now unfortunately.

If anyone fancies a dig for it, head on down to wherever the rubbish goes in Doncaster!😄

Annoying isn’t it when you get rid of things that later end up being valuable.

Since joining this site a few weeks ago I've been frantically working my way backwards through all the posts getting a feel of the place and what people enjoy collecting etc... I've actually got as far back as late December 2020! I know low end Chinese stuff is very much a love hate thing with collectors, unfortunately I'm the rare one who revels in such miniature shite 😅

Whilst looking for through all the Chinese diecasts at a Spanish Tedi discount store recently I felt compelled to buy this larger scale Cement Truck even though I only usually buy diecast trucks which are approximately 1:87 in scale.

Made by Donbful it appears to be based on an old Mercedes-Benz NG and is actually rather nicely detailed for it's low price point.

Anyone who shed a tear when Yatming closed their doors back in 2013 can wipe your glass eyes as their spirit lives on in a thousand different copies 😉

In actual fact most of Yatmings back catalogue were snapped up by Lucky Diecasts and are still produced to this day.

Feisu thought they would copy Yatmings ultra cheapo low end 1:64 line with predictably dire results but somehow I can't leave them behind whenever I see them doing battle with the likes of HTI Teamsterz and Zuru Metal Machines for peg supremacy in your local discount retailer.

This believe it or not is meant to be an R230 generation Mercedes SL......

Brand new reissue of their geriatric VW Buggy. Your five Euros buys you a bit of exclusivity, novelty and nostalgia though maybe not collector grade quality, fixtures and fittings!

My personal preference for these RLC cars is for them to come in the display case like the Kawa Buga Beetle, so you can have a proper look at it and put it back afterwards. Apparently some collectors insist Hot Wheels have to be on a card, nowt queer as folk eh?

This one's a right hooker, so goes very nicely with a similar condition leftie I got not so long ago

The underbonnet pin thing always confused me on my Polizei  one as well.  I also originally thought it was to help open the bonnet but I'm guessing it's where the steering mechanism connects together between the 'wheel'and the steering rack. I briefly thought it was something to do with ease of assembly so the 2 parts connected together after the model is put together by slinding the pin down inside the body. I reckoned it would be a bit fiddly  trying to marry up the base whilst also trying to connect the steering. But the later models like the learner driver had no opening bonnet so how would they assemble that then? A nice wee mystery!

I haven't got pics of one in bits, but I think I found four (!) in various states while going through my projects box. I'll have to disassemble one and show how it goes together, maybe someone will explain what that mystery pin actually does!
