Finally obtained a Lone Star El Camino

No tailgate of course, but Model Supplies list one for next to nothing. At least the glass and bumpers are good, unlike a more expensive one I was also watching. Saw a guy customise one of these on YouTube last night, his paint skills are amazing

Christ that guys talented at painting! The shine and flatness he gets is incredible.

Im not massively into the custom hot rod thing, I prefer things more standard, but that is absolutely stunning work.
Funny he uses high build primer not etch too. I find the paint/primer has a tendency to peel without etch even after keying everything up.

Never had the Lone Star but did have a Dinky version. The roof pillars are weak on those too!

At long last some actual progress has been made today!

Weather has been nice so I’ve sprayed both the Granada estate and AEC bus in their primer coat then after letting it dry wet flatted them both off. That means both can be painted in top coat colours another day.

IMG_6735.thumb.jpeg.bffaafd2cfeeb48d3af0935a8bc1e149.jpeg

Theres something very satisfying about wet flatting paint then running your finger tips over it to see how smooth it’s gone!

The bus needs a few extra bits of prep and masking for the bonnet and cab side areas, which are plastic parts. I’ll have to mask the clear windows off then spray it white as it’s all one clear plastic moulding.
The bits I had to fill on the rear end and side have come out well though so you shouldn’t be able to tell anything was there once done.

These just popped up on FacebookFB_IMG_1740239446364.jpg.f0e266e269149fc9ef7c3205caa9cea5.jpg

What a lunatic!😄

Matchbox must’ve had a fair few of the AEC’s.

I picked up this job lot earlier. It’s mainly Chinese junk but there’s a few I haven’t looked at closely.

The Hot Wheels Modern Classics premium line seems to have arrived in Tescotainer aisles, finally.

IMG_20250222_0906163.thumb.jpg.eb0ff142741c1ff411bf9af14ecec7bf.jpg

Dunno where they've been hiding for the past six months, but they're here now. And they're already discounted, which is nice. I found the Subaru Forester a week ago in The Entertainer store in central Belfast, and while the others are quite appealing too I decided they weren't what I was after today.

IMG_20250222_0907042.thumb.jpg.5a579d40856a1b71b0ab3547caeabe81.jpg

Still mostly 2024 mainlines in their dump bins, though a few 2025 releases were in evidence - guess those mobile reps I see in Tesco wearing blue Entertainer polo shirts just top 'em up, rather than unpack a full case.

The Range had a 2025 B-case abandoned in a corner...

IMG_20250222_0916242.thumb.jpg.b15dbc524222f6816245144dbbff244c.jpg

Some decent enough stuff, but nothing I'm really desperate for - and nothing I think won't show up in Poundland or Home Bargains for 50p less in a few weeks.

IMG_20250222_0916162.thumb.jpg.641b88f71a538586f8732def8802884e.jpg

Did score an (apparently) unblemished Matchbox Italian Roads 5-pack for £8.05:

IMG_20250222_0940192.thumb.jpg.12b5c56c01eae975f99568d915126420.jpg

I'm only really interested in the Miura and the Giulia Sprint - the others I already have, albeit in different colours.

There are loads of new off-road, city commercial and construction themed 5-packs sitting around, but the passenger car sets seem to go quite quickly.

Also scored a nice little dark green Supra from 2024 that wasn't on my radar, a Wankpanzer, and a 2025 issue Rodger Dodger that's the hero car on Netflix's 'Hot Wheels - Let's Race' animated series, and as such will probably be of interest to my nieces...

If you spot another Forester can you grab 1 please?

Pretty much non-existant over here...

No I've not got that one. There are four more stripped ready to paint, but there are a surprising number to find. Not really interested in planes or trains but they were part of the series too it seems

I don’t think so, the base looked blank.

I'm about to roffle the lot minus the BMW and Land Rover.

Years ago I came across these two vehicular plastic shapes on a local fleabay forum. They were part of some old garden kidz toys being got rid of. I spied the MB logo on a blurry image of the base but had no idea as to why they exist.

Over the years I have searched now and then and someone suggested they were burger king releases, and I've seen an image of a yellow version. I cannot even find a documented reference to them in the self help books. Am I missing something, is it staring me straight in the face? Help me understand what these are:

It's plastic throughout.   It scales to 1:31 length and 1:28 width, confirming the portliness.  So, approx 1:29

First seen on a page from the 1989 catalogue, range name BIG MOVERS.  At 22 inches long, they were !

Tinplate body on the truck.  Yet the cars are softish polymer.

Sourced from Tonka, I wondered, but no, they had their own:

Nice! Really useful, and mystery solved! There is a set in Dorset on Bumtree for a tenner and the trucks are 'around'. Great to see that they are a regular thing and I can now move them on as they are not something I want... and I could use their valuable space!

And here are the pics, starting as usual with the actual box:

And this is what was inside it:

Should be plenty to keep me occupied there!

I wanted the DaysGone vintage-type trucks for the loads really.  The trucks themselves aren't bad, so if anyone wants them when I've unloaded them, shout up.  Ditto the tankers: I want a couple of the tanks for a conversion project, so now I have choices.
