My local Tescos had a brand new case of Hot Wheels and a brand new case of Matchbox in tonight!

However they were the Escort MK2 RS2000/Red Sierra case and yellow MGB/blue Capri case respectively and I have all the ones I want from both of those.

Teasing bastards.

Buy them all, do not open and store in a dry dark place until you’re about 90. Then flip them on eBay for £megabucks and reap the rewards!😁

Yup, it's Friday again.

Definitely a bit brighter in the mornings now, but a cold old wind blowing.

At least the car wasn't iced up like it was yesterday.

Street lights OFF before 8am for the first time...

That's true - today was the first day there's been a bit of light at around 7.20am so I can see the white guttering on next-door's roof, rather than just the silhouettes of previous weeks...

Which is kinda comforting. Coming out of the darkness, toward lighter times.

I made it to the stall in good time today, before The Nemesis showed up... although, I was mildly perturbed that the fella who runs the Charity Stall was already scrambling through the boxes, and left with some boxed Corgi Classics fire engines and a boxed 007 rerelease of the old Corgi Dodge Kew animal truck...

Have I now a new Nemesis to contend with?

Some familiar faces/ Adidas trainers did arrive soon after, and there was a degree of familiarity about the diecast offers today too...

The £1 Matchbox/ Hot Wheels tub was back, with increasing numbers of empty blister packs and the refugees from within now huddled at the bottom of the box.

A fairly forensic search confirmed that there are no more Matchbox Volvo C30s in there, of any colour, nor any of the green Mazda 2s.

Which isn't to say they won't reappear some other time...

Initial delight at the sight of a rummage box with Superkings kinda fizzled as I realised these were mostly just the same Days Gone and MoYs as were on the stall last week, but with a (decent enough) Lesney Aircraft Transporter perched atop:

Meh. Even the 'locos of the world ' aren't apparently worth displaying on the stall properly.

Demi-wheeled Franklin Mint Stingray still in there, plus the Wiking Ford Transcontinental.

I was kinda tempted, but ultimately put it back.

Same went for this tiny (roughly N-gauge) Lone Star locomotive - I didn't even know these existed until the mention of the joblot railway track yesterday.

Hard to make out, but it does say Lone Star on there.

It's likely these are up for pennies, rather than pounds.

The £5 bus box didn't quite sparkle today either:

Some recent-ish stuff, but mostly older items.

Annoyingly, the Stevenson's RT requested by @Rover414 wasn't here this week - but I'll keep an eye out for it in future...

The big brown Neoplan coach with funky orange curtains was nice, though.

As I was photographing these, some fella conspiratorially sidled up and said, "I know what you're doing there."

As I looked awkwardly confused, he continued, "You've got one of those apps, haven't you, to check all the prices so you can find out which ones you can sell on eBay."

I protested that I was, in fact, just taking photos - but he smiled and walked off.

I'm not even aware of the existence of such an app, but I have to say it does sound kinda handy.

Up top, some boxless Hong Kong OOC Leylands and a lone Corgi Classics RT 

And that was... basically it.

How annoying.

A stack of 1950s Meccano Magazines were also kinda appealing, especially with their Dinky Toy News writeup by 'The Toyman':

But hey. Some weeks it's an embarrassment of riches, other weeks it's a bit less of a thrill ride.

I took a turn round the other stalls, but the annoying bit about trying to beat The Nemesis by coming in extra-early is that the other stallholders are only just starting to set up.

Alan's Emporium still hadn't managed to reveal its occasionally-decent 50p Tray by the time I had to scoot off, at around 8.45.

There are a lot of collectables stalls at the market on a Friday, but few bother much with old toys.

Paddy's does, sometimes, but his prices are invariably laughable.

Though I only noticed while cropping pics that he had a Grandstand 'Astro Wars' game hidden down below the stall - a sort-of Space Invaders knock-off which I spent many an hour playing in my youth, before the bulb within went pop and rendered it unplayable.

I'm tempted, but it's probably going to be crazy money (and possibly just as bust as my old example).

Otherwise, there's probably someone on a teaset collectors' forum running a similar Tat Friday event, only with Royal Albert.

And Ainsley figurines.

I mean, it's always worth a look - but mostly, it's not my thing.

Cameras, cutlery, and the most user-unfriendly way to display LPs conceivable.

Ah now.

I moseyed round to the Charity Stall to see if the fella there was now trying to resell those Corgis to double his money, but nope - zero diecast offered.

Maybe he'd sold them already.

Or maybe he has an eBay price guide app on his phone...

Had a quick mooch around two Tescos this morning and one last night. Either they were sitting on a load of stock or they knew their deal was ending and put in a huge order - every one has stacks of the MGB/Capri/MR2 case but little else of interest

The General Tat stall did have some stuff worth perusing, mind:

The Working Rigs were gone, but these Convoy twin-packs were new to me.

£10 each on them.

Also, some Greenlight septics, at £6.

Matchbox Mainlines and Opening Parts were the same as before, mostly.

Greenlight Jeep was new, too.

The fella who runs the stall (who seems to get called both Colin and Davey, seemingly interchangeably) pointed out a new Vanguards release of the MK2 Granada, with an unexpectedly local link:

Really weird to see a Northern Ireland plate on a 1/43 model.

Seemingly a replica of an ex-RUC car, I'm sure demand for this will be high.

It's nice, but - I can't really justify the £36 here (especially as I already have a green MK2).

I did think very hard about this 1/43 Hongwell Cararama Transit, which I've had my eye on for a while, but even at a tenner it seemed just a bit too badly finished, with poorly-masked paint overspray and various raggedy casting blemishes.

So I put it back and all.

But, I did get a couple of things...

The Lexus is a nicely rendered model, and unlike all the others dumped in there, the Giulia is still sealed.

I had two Giulias, unopened, but disposed of them last year when I liquidated about 90% of my recent Matchbox and Hot Wheels in a desperate effort to reduce the volume of my collection prior to the house move.

Come to think of it, Market Blokey took those.

Weirdly, this Lexus never seemed to show up on Tesco's shelves anytime I was in - it's not that rare, but I just didn't encounter it.

Last week, £2 might have seemed pricey but now it seems to be the going rate...

Sure thing! I nearly bought it, but held off as I wasn't sure if you wanted to keep the track or not... But if I can get it for a few pence, then I'll nab it!

Ah, you're right - it is!

I've seen this before, sadly - quite likely the original box got squished/ crushed/ soaked and hence discarded.

The perils of having mobile stock humped in and out of vans...
