Watched another one today sat in Morrisons car park (behind a 16v GTi Golf) whilst eating a Morrisons Medium salad box.

Very much enjoyed watching three (the Sales Rep one, the Young Drivers and the Family Cars ones thus far) of these again... They remind me of Creature Comforts but with people not plasticine!

Now for the rest of them :!: .

Not that I'm trying to monopolise this thread or anything  but...

Excerpt from a reader's letter in WHAT CAR? April 1991 -

I might also suggest that most company car drivers see the vehicle for what it's worth - a means of travelling between business opportunities and not an extension of his/her ego. The car is a means by which you do your job, just like a telephone or pen. Think how often you have slammed down a phone or chewed a pen - they too are badly treated.

Bit of a disparity between this letter and the TV series then... Incidentally, in terms of their car tests I've only recently realised how "consumer magazine" WHAT CAR? was when I used to buy it in the '80s and early '90s; I now wish I'd purchased CAR instead!

There was a book???

My life is complete having seen pics 3 and 4 (and none of the 4 pics were featured in the TV series); all else is white noise now...

And - seriously - thanks for sharing :) .

On reflection, the Rickety Rentals family would have saved their hard-earned in the longer term (a couple of years at the most ) if they'd shelled out on a banger and borrowed from the bank - or relatives if things were THAT bad - as required... But even when they were on their uppers, I guess this was too hard for them to do ("Bangernomics" was truly in its infancy then, as was the internet and fora to support it - ain't hindsight brilliant!) :( .

But it's a policy that has paid handsomely for me for the last 15 years :) - and for many of us on this 'ere fforum for a long time as well, I guess :) .

The photos in the book were taken by Martin Parr, who acted as a consultant on the TV programmes. There was a separate similar series (and book) anout peoples' houses. This was brilliantly spoofed by Harry Enfield, who did a whole show in the same style featuring Wayne & Waynetta, Tim nice but dim and "Only me!"

Martin Parr recently made a fake documentary in similar stlyle with John Shuttleworth, complete with Austin Ambassador. It was shown on Sky Arts and is probably still on the schedule.
