sierraman Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 DVLA say it no longer exists. So I gather it got clunked after he put a gun in his head and bought it. I'm amazed the pug taxi got another 10 years or so. I would have thought it would have got skipped after somebody died in it.

mercrocker Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 One close to my heart.....Rock and roll guitar legend Eddie Cochran died in this Consul in Chippenham, Wiltshire in April 1960 when he was being taken back to the airport to return home to the USA after a tour date at Bristol Hippodrome. Fellow rocker Gene Vincent (and Cochran's girlfriend) were also in the car. This tragic loss of a talented young musician is still commemorated every year near the hospital to which they were all taken. Junkman, Shep Shepherd and warren t claim 3
flat4alfa Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 I recall an image of a mid-80s (possibly) East German terrorist group who got busted in some way, the footage was of a police taped off Mk1 BX with its bonnet and boot open. I always wanted to know what that was about.. Ring any bells with anybody? j-j: The provisional IRA murdered two London-based Australian solicitors in Holland in the early 1990s after they were mistaken for off-duty British military personnel, by virtue of the fact that they were driving a British-registered BX:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Spano ... en_Melrose Serck and Fiat Mirafiori content. flat4alfa Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 On Saturday, 21 March 1981, Mike Hailwood set off in his Rover SD1 with his children Michelle and David to collect some fish and chips. As they returned along the A435 Alcester Road through Portway Warwickshire near their home in Tanworth-in-Arden, a truck made an illegal turn through the barriers into the central reservation, and their car hit it. Michelle, aged nine, was killed instantly; Mike and David were taken to hospital, where Mike died two days later, aged 40. David survived. The truck driver was fined £100. S-registered, so with those wheels, a V8-S ? I don't recall those side decals though Tragic loss, daughter too. So the fine in in today's money just was just £380 !
sierraman Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 What a horrible accident that must have been to attend. I know we all rubbish modern cars but if this had happened now, what with ABS etc he would likely have stopped in time and if he didn't the accident would no doubt have been less tragic what with the improvement in crashworthyness. warren t claim 1

mercrocker Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 There is also, unfortunately, the factor of people driving up (or down) to the perceived additional safety factors stuff is supposed to have these days. I tend to agree with Junkman's fatalistic approach.

Parky Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I'm not surprised Essex 5-0 sold that Range Rover on. I've just looked through those pictures and been amazed by the condition of it, good tailgates, no rot, headlining still up and its an early SE (from the first 9 months of production) for collector value. Then I found it was only 7 years old at the time of those pictures.I know the scenes of crimes officer who led that investigation, I will ask him why they didn't tear the fuck out of it like they normally do

Datsuncog Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Conservative MP and Shadow Northern Ireland Minister Airey Neave's Mk1 Cavalier, following the detonation of an INLA bomb which killed him while leaving the Houses of Parliament underground carpark in March 1979. Security to the HoP car park was stepped up as a result. I first saw this picture in an 'Illustrated History of the 20th Century' library book as a kid, and it made me stop because it looked so ordinary on one level (Cav coming out of a car park), and so definitely not ordinary on another. As an ex-WW2 army officer on the cusp of becoming the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Neave was seen by militant Republicans as a "legitimate target". Some more moderate Nationalists however despaired at the killing, as Neave's wartime experiences as a POW in Colditz had left him with an abiding hatred of torture and human rights abuses. He had already vowed to gather evidence and take action in his capacity as SoS against allegations of brutality and collusion by elements of the security forces in Northern Ireland. Then-SDLP leader Gerry Fitt commented at the time, "those responsible for his death may have killed a friend rather than an enemy." chodweaver, Banger Kenny, Rusty_Rocket and 1 other 4
flat4alfa Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 It was posted on page 1 as above, but yes, glad you've written up some of the background. I remember it well, the newspapers anyhow, and likely this was the one when I was a child that made me hear about the IRA (and offshoots) and what they could do I've also never forgotten it was a Cavalier either, but never did know what colour it was back then as the photos were black and white. It was blue Which begs the question why the Iron Lady film portrayed it as red and since messed with my head http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_470556-Vauxhall-Cavalier-1979.html

flat4alfa Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Van used by IRA terrorists in the attempted attack on Loughgall RUC station. The SAS were waiting, and shot dead 8 Provos. Just read up on this. It wasn't 'attempted', they pretty much succeeded, by breaching the base's perimeter fence with a digger that had a bomb in its bucket The IRA's attack involved two teams. One team would drive a digger with a bomb in its bucket through the base's perimeter fence and light the fuse. At the same time, the other team would arrive in a van and open fire on the base, with the goal of killing three RUC officers as they came off duty Hang on. This one's blue too. Banger Kenny 1
flat4alfa Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 This one really opened my eyes as a kid, the "Corporals murders" where those two poor blokes were dragged from their car and beaten to death. Even at the time the fact it was a VW Passat seemed incongruous; http://www.pacemakerpressintl.com/displayPhoto/showPhotoImage/id/164252 Tragic event. I remember the footage of the FX4 taxi racing off carrying them still alive, off to be killed.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaFFYtKD2V4

Parky Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Airey Neaves murder was my first experience of the barbarity humans were capable of inflicting on each other. For weeks I was convinced the IRA were after my family too. Hendry Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 My uncles ex wifes brother was a soldier and was murdered by the IRA aged only 18. Horrific! Im not entirely sure why but the IRA/UDA/UVF and Norn Iron conflict has always intrigued and interested me. Of course living in Glasgow sectarianism is still rife, it will never be gone as long as theres people raising their kids into it, and all the names that go around, Dirty Orange Bastard, Fucking Orange Hun the Catholics call the Protestants, and the Catholics get called Papes, Taigs, Fenian bastards etc. 2 of my favourite films are Patriot Games and In The Name Of The Father, i think it was those which sparked my interest.

Ah - another Photobucket victim. When I saw the thread, Neave's crumpled Cav was the first thing that popped into my head - so when I didn't come across the image while reading through the posts, I took it upon myself to add it in. This particular incident happened before my time, but growing up in Northern Ireland, the terrorism threat was pretty much constant throughout the 80s and 90s - my town centre was carbombed by the IRA twice in the early 1990s, with a great deal of damage done (but no loss of life, thankfully). Quote I remember it well, the newspapers anyhow, and likely this was the one when I was a child that made me hear about the IRA (and offshoots) and what they could do Why I think this particular image stuck with me was because, due to 'respect for families', car wreckage from bomb attacks was hardly ever shown on the local news - or if it was, it was from a distance and usually with a tarp over it while the forensics boys took it away. Despite this kind of thing being a horribly regular occurence, Neave's Cavalier was the first time I'd ever seen what a bombed car actually looked like - and I was horribly fascinated. I also seem to remember that the footage of the army corporals being dragged from that silver Passat during the IRA funeral procession and taken away to their deaths was only shown in full in Northern Ireland in the late 90s or early 2000s. There was quite a media flurry about the decision to finally show it as part of BBC NI's Spotlight programme, together with an interview with the priest who had to act as a mediator to recover the bodies later that day. Some very dark times. I'll see if I can dig up any other pics of Troubles-era shite, if there's an interest here - I know I've a few archive folders tucked away of interesting shite from that time. I can appreciate that some may view it as somewhat morbid, but as historical images go they're absolutely compelling. Banger Kenny and flat4alfa 2

Nowadays it's all creeds and flavours getting on better, vs. islamic gangblinger intolerance of all those creeds and flavours that are getting on better I've still got an old Rover though.
flat4alfa Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Ford Broncos Forever the OJ car. Values are still affected as a result. I'm told. Less than two years later Ford would discontinue the Bronco and replace it with another F-series based SUV called the Ford Expedition
