  1. And the results are in. Worst pads I've ever seen... As you can imagine it stops better now with no noise. Nice result. Also found the other front shock/air strut has been replaced so that's both front struts that are new. Happy days.
  2. Do these have the IAC? Idle air control valve Believe these need cleaning every now and then. Glad your leaks are sorted!
  3. Update. Been driving great but getting a horrible grumbling when braking. Let's have a lo... Oops Anyone know where's best to buy from? Looking for decent brand but nowhere seems to stock them? Tried parts in motions, jgs 4x4, gsf, might have to try autodoc and just not be able to drive it for approx 178 years while I wait for postage.
  4. That's incredible. What an incredible prank that would be to let someone drive it.
  5. Holy mother of God https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1040283737204462/
  6. If you've not done the flame trap do that ASAP. They push the seals out constantly as a result of excess crank pressure. You could feasibly replace that and all the oil leaks will sort themselves out. Ask me how I know.
  7. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/901474071570471/ This advert made me chuckle as the "legal" payload of this truck is 1,380kg which seriously limits the cars it is capable of transporting. Then showing a Mercedes Cl on the back of it which will be the best part of 2,000kg.
  8. Lovely motor that for £800. I'm starting to see the return of reasonably priced motors. COVID times and that beemer is £1,500
  9. I seem to remember this advert being on there a very long time a go... Very long time a go but for £600 it's not exactly breaking the bank. I really liked my old one and that was in far worse shape though all be it with an MOT. I paid £600 for that.
  10. I love it but suspect he wants FAR too much money for it considering it's been sat for essentially 13 years going off the Mot history. I'll ask him...
  11. New strut fitted! Not much hassle, lower pinch bolt took 20/30mins of heating and turning and whacking to get it out but other than that not a bad job. Quick drive and it's all fixed and also driving much nicer. That shock absorber was blown and bouncing about. Didn't get any picture because F***ing freezing and dark. All in I'd say it took 2 hours including gathering all the tools in and out the house. Very happy.
  12. If you want my guess for what's the problem. I noticed that the new strut you put on looked distinctly non oem. Those cheap Chinese struts off eBay are very troublesome...
  13. Just seen this. I approve of the replacement of the A6! Lovely looking thing and I will always have a soft spot for an old boxy Volvo. First dibs when you sell it in a month or two.
  14. Struts fubar. New one ordered. It's all part of the fun!
  15. Some work has been done on the range. First off the passenger front door lock wasn't working on the central locking. New lock mechanism and less than an hour to fit and it's all working again. Happy. New rear tyres on the back for a grand total of £60. Bought a tyre for £35 off someone and the spare had a branny spanker on it. £25 for someone to mount the new tyre and swap over the spare. Had a look at the suspension components and by god they're beefy. Happy. Got a wheel alignment tomorrow so we will see if that's out. I also pulled back the sill covers to take a look and it's genuinely mint. I've seen some horrors on the l322 forums over the past few days and the rust is well hidden by the covers so I was a little nervy. After taking a look though they're solid and no surface rust. Only rust is on the arches which I still need to get a quote for that. Happy. I think I may have to replace a suspension strut though as jacking the car up may have upset it. Front offside sounds like it's got a leak and caused the suspension to have a fit. A cycle of the ignition and it seems happier but I am going to have a look at it later to see if it's dropped. £260 for a new one and not hard to fit so I'm not concerned.
  16. Errrrrr I dunno. All cars I seem to buy seem to have at least one speaker rattling and I do tend to fiddle about with the fade/balance to mitigate it. It will definitely do it. I think it came with a book in the glove box but I can't remember. Such a good car though and for the money it's a genuine steal.
  17. You did. Does look smart I agree. Even drove to china today.
  18. Don't be too hasty. I went to work today which is all back roads and top speed of 40 and I had clear run at it. 17mpg which is what you will see round town if you're careful I imagine. I'll stick to the 20mpg in my XJR for my commuting. My eco car.
  19. The older ones did. Mainly the 3.0tdi. chocolate garbage. These zf boxes are pretty solid tbf. They have some issues but not terminal normally.
  20. I was seriously babying it to get that. 65mph on the flat might return 25mpg but as you go above that it starts getting thirsty. At 80ish on the way back from Scotland I was getting 20 on the nose pretty much. The old rover v8s are thirsty but I think one of the saving grace for this car is the 6hp26 gearbox. Theyre quite a modern gearbox for the age they are achieving lockup in 1st gear etc. not far off manual MPG.
  21. Been driving about in the range today. Went on an eco run and I think that's all it's got. Maybe better after a service, air filter, gearbox service, new tyres and tracking but I suspect not much. Maybe 1mpg in all of that. Trip 1 is MPG since fill up total 80 miles Trip 2 is MPG on the eco run approx 50ish miles Anyway, the two rear tyres are worn on the outer edge so need replacing really. They're good tyres on it pirelli scorpion zeros and cost £170 a corner. Not too bad tbf. However the spare is in near new condition and I managed to find the below tyre for £35. Not too bad and should have 4 tyres with good tread for say £50 fitted and I'll get it tracked at the same time. I'll be ordering some oils and filters soon so I will see if it improves once that's all done. I don't think I will see the hallowed 30mpg though but it won't stop me from trying.
  22. That's more like it. Bodywork is largely good with a few scabs. I will get a quote on how much to get it looking showroom fresh.
  23. Thanks chaps. There was a definite time crunch going on so persistence had to prevail. Been putting it to use the last couple of days. Getting it a full valet today so should be looking it's opulent best!
  24. XJR probably won't be for sale anytime soon. I say. It won't be cheap though!
