  1. That's funny because I can't drive my Saab because my near side rear brake caliper is pissing fluid.
  2. So the key isn't flashing? Sounds like a key error rather than on the car side. In my completely unqualified opinion. Does sound like a very annoying problem.
  3. I did have that thought hence why I wanted to double check this with someone else first. I do know that from past experiences the line that goes in to the compressor holds a bit of pressure and gives off quite the blast when you remove it hence thinking the pressure is held up to the compressor. Looking at the valve block it does go in to the valve block and then in to the reservoir but my thought was that it should hold the pressure anyway. I wanted someone to confirm this on a forum I'm on but I've not had a response. The valve blocks rarely go wrong but I know thoughts like that can get you in trouble. The valve blocks are quite a bit cheaper than the compressor so may be worth thinking about throwing a new (good used) one at it. Normally they throw a code if a solenoid in the valve block is bad also though and I haven't seen such a code. The more I think the more I am leaning towards the valve block though. Hmm.
  4. Oh and amusingly as I was leaving I couldn't get in to my Saab as my key wasn't working... Thankfully just a dying battery in the fob and Tesco round the corner from my hotel had some on hand so that's fixed as well!
  5. I am hoping we are on the right track. For the geeks among us I found the following: Air filter housing wasn't fully clipped in meaning air getting in after the air filter. Maf sensor was VERY dirty and could see no metal exposed. Black. Maf cleaned, throttle blade cleaned as that was dirty too. Was getting a too lean code on the ECU so checked for any vacuum leaks and pretty confident there is none. As Eddy said we took it for a 30 min or so drive and all is good other than the air suspension light which I think took much longer to come on. The struts all seem to be holding air as they didn't sink on the drive after the light came on which with a leak it would normally do. The tank holds no pressure after the pump stops but reaches 7/7.5 bar when it's on so the pump is kicking out enough pressure but as soon as it is off it goes to 0 within 10 seconds. I believe there is a shut off valve in the compressor which when the pump stops it closes to hold pressure. I don't think this valve is shutting causing the massive loss of pressure in the reservoir. My instinct is therefore a compressor unit failure. I am however not 100 % on this and have put the question to a forum I am on to see if anyone can weigh in on it. The only other thing I think it could be would an issue with the valve block but these rarely go wrong. Definitely want a second opinion though! Pleasure to meet Eddy and glad I could help in some way. Always nice to meet up with fellow enthusiasts. I may be returning at some point with a new compressor but we shall see!
  6. Bookmarked for when you want shut of it and will let it go for peanut (tongue in cheek of course! Kind of) Love these A8s as a self confessed Audi fan boi. Need to get one, one day.
  7. I'll see if I can find the invoice. Feel sorry for the previous owner. Absolutely fine with spending the money on it to keep it in good condition all round but he was let down by a cowboy. It'll be a nice one to get back on the road and when I give it a drive I'll see if I want to keep it or keep my original one.
  8. Unusual update. So I've bought another XJR. 500 mile round trip in the range rover which is such a good tow car and I'm really glad I got it. This one is FAR nicer than the one I have however it is on 176k miles. When I first found this one I thought I'm going to steal a "few" parts off of it to make mine nice. Having seen it in the flesh it is WAY to nice to do that to it. It's got a running issue which I believe is down to some serious botchery by a mechanic who last worked on it. See pictures for a hacked up o2 sensor wiring, hard to see but the mechanic has chopped off the connectors and put a house block connector in. Completely exposed to the elements. Predictably it is showing codes for this. Has a slight oil leak but I think it's from the drain plug so easy fix with a service. Other than that it's been fastidiously maintained by a proper enthusiastic owner. See bill for £7.7k when he bought it. So, get running right, fix leak, MOT and then decide if I want to keep this one or my original one. One of them will be going up for sale and I will of course offer it up on here. Either way it'll be the cheapest XJR in the country.
  9. Trabant? Nevermind the lights are more rectangular on the trabant...
  10. Sounds like an ordeal. Not easy getting up and down the country these days!
  11. My other guesses then for the rough idle: Can't remember if it's a carb or injector system you have on this? If it's carb does it need cleaning and similar for the injectors. May be worth seeing the spray pattern on the injectors and throwing some snake oil through them. Smoke test for leaks on inlet manifold etc. Timing, see where that is. It's a red block Volvo and whilst incredible they do run like a bucket of spanners being shaken. Hopefully you get it sorted!
  12. Tried the key pairing/dogging procedure and no joy. There is a short to ground error for the security module so I'll start there. Sdd said so...
  13. I forgot to add. You will spy a smaller supercharger pulley. +2.5psi. Also upgraded the idler pulley and belt to the later design to help avoid the slip. Cool stuff.
  14. XJR update. Had a few issues. Shock. Air suspension was throwing a fault increasing regularly. The front end wasn't getting up to a satisfactory height and in the end it became apparent the near side front strut was dead. I bought a second hand unit from auto reserve jaguar (I mention them by name as I rate them for new and used jag stuff) and set about replacing. Go to remove the strut and strip the thread on the top wishbone. Boo. New wishbone in the post and go about fitting it all and air suspension woes cured. Did this a while a go but forgot to update the thread. No pictures soz. Belt squeal on the supercharger was getting pretty bad and wasn't going away really. A bit of swearing and a delay due to incorrect belt ordering and that is now sorted! Been driving around in the range and forget how different these things are. More recently and more pressingly on my way to work I got a "gearbox fault" flash up on my dash and it locked me in to third gear. At this moment I thought it needed the solenoids in the gearbox which if done by my local automatic transmission garage would be a £900 fix. If I did it I suspect it would be circa £500. Not ideal. I have however been getting other intermittent issues. Air suspension fault flashing up intermittently, DSC fault flashing up on first startup and then going away. With this in mind I thought that all these faults seem a little bit of a coincidence so checked the battery voltage and it was only kicking out 12.1v, it was also tiny. Replaced with a more suitable battery and said issues have not yet returned so I am hopeful this has cured the above issues. Phew. It desperately needs a clean but the bodywork is so bad I don't want to. It also has a flickering headlight (xenon's) and a weird issue with the speakers. Music plays fine but then the subwoofer makes a horrible distorted sound after say 10 mins of playing music. Still need to sort the locking and unlocking on the fob. I'll get through them eventually but I've been so incredibly busy of late it is slow going. List of things I want to sort in order I suspect they will get sorted. Central locking (needs a security sounder module I believe) Subwoofer (dunno if it just need a new subwoofer but I know it has a weird fibre optic cable thing that may be broken somewhere in which case throw the car away) Wheel refurb Brake caliper refurb (I think this will make a huge difference in appearance General bodywork tidying, needs paint it's flaking off everywhere, needs a new front bumper, polish headlights etc. this will probably end up being a full respray in all likelihood. Makes simply incredible supercharger noises and I have a sample for you to enjoy for sticking with the post this long.
  15. Such a lovely car. I'm putting up with the 15/16 mpg around the houses as I really do like driving it. It's much more of a mile mucher than a b road blast of course but it does it really well. Also got greeted with a classic parking next to me at a clients today. Shameless picture op.
  16. Service done today. Old oil removed came to about 6 litres and took 8.5 litres of oil including liquimoly lifter additive. The oil was very dark and definitely due to changing. The oil filter was a blue print with a date code of 2017 and rust forming around the rim... Hmmm. Previously it had what sounded like a lifter tick or possibly a manifold leak. After doing this it's now running much quieter see clip Happy with it all and becoming a little attached to the thing now! Next job is a track rod end that has a little bit of play in it. If I do end up having to sell to fix my house I'll be very sad to see it go but glad to know I've done some maintenance that it definitely needed.
  17. He's unfortunately accepted an offer already. I've got first dibs if it falls through however I don't think the other guy will be passing this one up.
  18. Guys it's f***ing genuine.
