romania00 Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Hello everybody! My name is Michael and I am new on the forum and I've been wandering if someone could help me find a Dacia Denem in Britain. It could also be either a Shifter or a Duster.
sierraman Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Good luck there... If you were going to find one anywhere, Romania would be your best bet.
skattrd Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 No help from me, but good luck with the hunt. I wonder where this is now? http://autoshite.com/topic/17962-look-what-the-cat-dragged-in-dacia-shifterossa/
romania00 Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 Good luck there... If you were going to find one anywhere, Romania would be your best bet.Well since I am Romanian I already have one,but I am searching for a British one.No help from me, but good luck with the hunt. I wonder where this is now? http://autoshite.com/topic/17962-look-what-the-cat-dragged-in-dacia-shifterossa/I read the entire post and the car has been restored. At least if I don't find one to get,I can see one in fully working condition. Felly Magic Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Only a very tiny number were sold, under a thousand I think, before the importer went bang, someone last year found a rotten Shifterossa and had it restored, but I don't think any Denems survive
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 But what about the Duster,I heard that there are still a few of them alive
skattrd Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 The odd Duster does turn up on ebay and other places, but personally I don't know of any for sale at present.
sierraman Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Could be wrong here but I think until at least a few years ago there was a beige estate knocking about, it had been in storage I think. Went on eBay don't know what became of it.
Six-cylinder Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Is a UK Oltcit 11R of any interest? Cavcraft, oldcars and strangeangel 3
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Well I am not sure.In Romania Oltcit parts are kind of hard to find, but I think it will work with Citroen Visa parts because they have the same engine.
Six-cylinder Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Well I am not sure.In Romania Oltcit parts are kind of hard to find, but I think it will work with Citroen Visa parts because they have the same engine. Mine has a Citroen GSA 1129cc flat four air cooled engine.
NorfolkNWeigh Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 See! Boris was right.Bloody Romanians coming over here taking our Dacias. AlabamaShrimp 1
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 I see it's not even a British one,so I'm not even interested.Is it imported from France?
Six-cylinder Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 No Olcits or Citroen Axels were sold in the UK when new and none were RHD. Don't be fooled by the badge, my one is an Oltcit Club 11R and was imported from Hungary in 2007. andrew e, oldcars and strangeangel 3
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 The Citroën Axel and the Oltcit Club were made both by Oltcit in Romania. They are the same car,the badge doesn't matter.
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 I heard that Dacias were more common in the Hampshire region,is it true?
Felly Magic Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 The importer was based down south, but nobody really bothered with them, the advertising campaign did them no favours, calling them 'The acceptable Dacia Denem'. It would be easier to track down a later Renault 12 and add Dacia badges and twin headlamps, and even then, I don't think many Renault 12 mk2's survive Timewaster 1
Timewaster Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Ahem! The VERY acceptable Dacia Denem They caught my eye as a yoof as my dad had a R12 and one off the houses on my paper round had a beige Denem parked outside. A posh one like in the brochure.
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Yeah, the Renault 12 is pretty rare too.Oh and by the way,the slogan doesn't make any sense even translated to Romanian.
Felly Magic Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Sam Glover had one in his fleet, A128SHU, there is a thread about it. He may even still have it as it's still showing on the DVLA computer. Here's the thread. http://autoshite.com/topic/13841-made-it-in-life-dacia-denem/ oldcars and egg 2
sierraman Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 The Romanian Embassy in Kensington had a fleet still on the go even when they were well past sell by date. Up until about 15 years ago as far as I know.
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Well I sent Sam a message to ask him about his Denem. If he responds,I will ask him a few other questions.I hope he could also give me some advice.
Tamworthbay Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 According to recent bits in practical classics, Sam is trying to trim his fleet so may let it go if you are lucky.
romania00 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 I wonder how much he would ask for it or if it at least starts if it hasn't been restored.
Albert Ross Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 I worked for a company many years ago, and we sold Shifters, Denems, and Dusters. We were also a Yugo Dealer. Known as Great Bedwyn Garage, in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, SN8. Owned by Crook Brothers of Devizes IIRC. The manager at the time (1989) was Chris Regan. Many were sold locally, we were close to the Hampshire border. Most were Yellow or Dark Blue. I plan, one day, to go to Romania (Turda ideally) and buy a Dacia. andrew e, BorniteIdentity and Lacquer Peel 3
Felly Magic Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Well Sam is deffo having a clear out, he's got an Allegro and Austin Apache on evilbay
Guest benno Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Sam sold his denem to a fellow Romanian just recently. The beige estate was scrapped.
