Whatever happened to that Chrysler Alpine

Remember that maroon one, R reg with the missing headlight that was discussed here some years back?

I saw the original pictures on Flickr but no further details.

Anyone know what happened to it?

To my knowledge..I think it just narrowly escaped the banger track and is now in the hands of a serial Alpine owning member of the Simca talbot club uk awaiting restoration.

I also heard that it has been saved by an Autoshite member and is now in safe and understanding hands.  That person gets my total respect for saving it and so does the person (who was a banger racer I believe) who offered it and some other rarities for preservation first before racing them.  I think it had been dry stored since 1990.

For those who aren't familiar with the car in question:

Remember looking at it when I bought the Yugo. I was tempted, but in retrospect it was probably a good thing I didn't buy it since it would have jsut sat around and done nothing before I lost interest and sold it

Nice one. An R reg Mk1 is pretty much top of the pops shite wise. I wonder how the restoration is going now?

Shame there is no sound (that we could turn up to full volume) with those photos to get that full on tappety clatter we all so love.

Did resident Talbot fanatic and sadly-not-on-here-much Boobydoo rescue this?

My old man had one of these.  First car I have any real memory of.  I'd LOVE to have a ride in one.

I love Alpines!

Here's one I found whilst in Greece in December...

Wasn't that Wuvvum's old one?

I was interested in it when it was for sale on Car and Classic, looking rather better than it does in that photo imo!

Glad that R reg has been saved I would imagine its the earliest one around in the UK!

It was not until a couple of years ago that I made the connection between the early and late Alpines being the same car just facelifted.

Has the R reg one on the thread had its bumpers painted? I thought they always came in white?
