KruJoe Posted May 28, 2012 Author Posted May 28, 2012 If anyone takes that 205 I have a low miles early 1.6 VTR engine (like about 50k) in my nans shed that would drop in ...Hmm, interesting... does it have loom, ancillaries etc, to make it run easy enough? And would it bolt straight onto the 1360cc TU's gearbox? Everything that is pictured is exactly what I need, so that's bonnet, grill, bumper and the headlamp trims. There's only one headlamp trim as mentioned.I think the headlamps themselves are the same between the pre and post facelift models.I have been told they are, but I have a nagging memory of 400 lights being a tad wider, or having more bulbs in them or summert silly. I'm probably wrong; often am. The condition of the condition of the bumper is not massively important, as making a 400 tourer look pre-facelift is just the first stage in some extensive mods I have planned. Don't worry though, it is going to be in the Autoshite spirit, it's not going to be omfg rat look, fibreglass minge mobile or jdm. There will be a large quantity of beige and Formica. LOVING the sound of that! Make a 1.4 16v version for me, ok? Are you going for the short, square indicators too? Of course you'll need new wings in that case. Mustard mitt, I do like the '1995' look, with long indicators and no chrome grille, as this one was. Going in low with a cheeky offer of £30 Cheeky! No, that's fine, as long as the bumper isn't a war to remove! I'll have a look at that later. Thinking about the journey south towards Devon from here... if MM5_Mark is a willing participant, I could send the bits with him to the Liverpoolestershire area when he comes for his swag? That's cheeky!

cobblers Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hmm, interesting... does it have loom, ancillaries etc, to make it run easy enough? And would it bolt straight onto the 1360cc TU's gearbox? There's no loom/ecu or owt, but there is an injection inlet and throttle body, sensors and injectors still in it. That said I would personally go down the route of running it on the carb and manifolds off the 1360. Before I removed it (to put a 16v in) It was in my 106 XSi, fitted using the 1360cc injection system completely unmodified and it ran perfect apart from idling a bit high (which was unrelated). I would assume a carb is even more forgiving. it'll bolt to the gearbox and mounts no probs, and I reckon the manifolds should bolt on but I'm not 100%. The inlet manifold on it is from a J reg 106 XSi so they are of similar eras.I could probably dig a 106 XSi ecu and most of the engine loom out of the shed if they are any use to you also.

philibusmo Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Perfect, give me a couple of days for pay day to roll back around and I'll get you your moneys.Just to be clear, that is front Bumper, bonnet, grill and 1 head lamp trim. And I'll pop a thread up on my very non-scene future Rover project in the very near future.

dollywobbler Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Those 'rocker' interior lights look like the ones fitted to the rear of the BX estate as well.

Richard Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 They were fitted to pretty much all French kit in the 80s and 90s weren't they?

KruJoe Posted May 31, 2012 Author Posted May 31, 2012 Cobblers, I don't have the time right now to take on another project, but it's good to know the engine is there is anything changes, or if someone else wants to take it on.I'll pull out that rocker lamp at some point soon. It may look like a BX estate one, but my BX14 'saloon' has two types, different again. Perfect, give me a couple of days for pay day to roll back around and I'll get you your moneys.Just to be clear, that is front Bumper, bonnet, grill and 1 head lamp trim. Yes, that's fine. I'll leave the bonnet on for now to keep the weather out, until we work out how it'll find its way south. And I'll pop a thread up on my very non-scene future Rover project in the very near future. I'll be holding you to that promise! @Barry: That little bit of trim only cost me 90p to send first class, so that's on me, it's not worth your time sending me owt for it. Enjoy it and take good care of those allotment gate-posts, I don't have another!

KruJoe Posted June 24, 2012 Author Posted June 24, 2012 ... in typical 'shit happens' fashion, after you very kindly sent me that bit of trim for the Rover I find out that there's something else I could do with... It's the fuel pump relay, but I'm not sure if it will be the same on the 414. It lives behind the centre consol, where the heater controls are, bolted on the left hand side. Looks like this: Obv no rush, next time you're at the car maybe you could take a look? ...Barry, don't ever tell me there's no rush because I'll forget all about it! That's what I did until Phil pm'd me about his bits. Anyway, I've been up to the car and ripped the shit out of the dashboard. So as you can see, I went balls-deep into the area you described, and haven't found that relay. Am I barking up the wrong tree, or maybe this 214 doesn't have it..? I do like messing about with this car though. It seems to be assembled 'sensibly', much like the 850, but without the solid quality. This made me smile, on the glove-box: I've found the old Austin-Rover symbol stamped on other parts.Despite the thinness and cheapness of the plastic, the glove-box falls open smoothly and slowly (a nicer action than the Volvo's). It has the rubber stops and a cheap little air damper on the side, but it makes all the difference! *** DNJ, I'm so sorry, I forgot about that Pug light as well. I'll get onto it this week, I promise. Nothing's going anywhere just yet, anyone want owt?I'd like to get the Escort A-framed off to the bridge when I have time, but not before I've hammered a smaller socket over the locking wheel-nuts... Without digging up Luxo's epic thread, is there a better method?
catsinthewelder Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I'd try chiseling off the outer ring then hoping a stud extractor would grip on the resulting mess. then when that failed I'd spend the afternoon failing to weld 3 nails in the right patten before giving up
mattblack Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks for looking mate, looks like the relays are different on the 214.
KruJoe Posted July 10, 2012 Author Posted July 10, 2012 BUMP for Shitefest! Shout now if I have anything here of use to you, and I'll do my best to bring it along. DNJI have that lamp from the 205 off, I can't comment on its serviceability, but it's yours. PhilI was just changing into my filth to tackle the Rover bumper for you, but it's started pissing down again. Hopefully tomorrow evening is a bit dryer. The bonnet is a two minute job, but that's gonna be fun* to transport. I wonder how it will affect my mpg when it's strapped to the roof of the BX..?
KruJoe Posted July 11, 2012 Author Posted July 11, 2012 Hey Phil - Good news: The bugger fits inside! Will gave me a hand with the bumper as the sun set, and that came off with no swearing, so job's a good un!BXs have no turrets inside, so I'm not sure it will fit in the Pony just the same (too narrow). The Pony's probably a few inches shorter, too. Do you want me to see if I can find some old padding/cushions/seat squabs for you to strap it to the roof? A bent 205 bonnet was fitted* on the Rowfah to keep the donkey dry. Remember this?No Luxo_Saga here, they put up very little resistance to an 18mm socket, despite the spinny collar thing. All three of 'em, one was missing! Well pleased with that result
philibusmo Posted July 12, 2012 Posted July 12, 2012 Wahey!I think possibly some padding would be a good idea, I think the chances of it fitting in the pony are fairly minimal. This is beginning to seem like the most ill advised motoring excursion since I rebuilt my fiesta in 2 days after a full respray and then drive it to Scotland, and that went fine except the steering wheel coming off on the M5.I hope this one is equally trouble free.
KruJoe Posted July 24, 2012 Author Posted July 24, 2012 Hello, can I help you? @ DNJ, I brought that lamp to Wiltshire for you, but didn't meet you. PM me your address, and I'll post it on. I can't guarantee it's a good one though.
Largactil Posted July 25, 2012 Posted July 25, 2012 L o n g shot... But if you have a phase 2 (1990 ->) wiper stalk fitted on any of the 205's, that doesn't have the rear wiper function (end of the stalk rotates to switch them on/off), I'd be interested... Plus, if you happen to have a set of petrol 205 (non-GTi) front springs kicking around, I might also be up for them - I'm having a debate over whether the ones I fitted to my XE are correct, as I can clearly see the spring platforms over the top of the tyres...(!)
KruJoe Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 Purge-proof bump! They're all still here folks, but I'm only in the country for another 10 days... L o n g shot...Sorry Mate, I missed this post!Did I read you've found a stalk to suit from a 205CJ?Re - springs, are you sorted out? I'll ask Will what he has here. The 205s are his department really. John, I'll check for that sensor tomorrow for you.
KruJoe Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 Time to give this a bump for the newbies. As you may have seen elsewhere, the 205 was properly stripped to a bare rolling shell... ...piled with scrap and dragged to the bridge, making way for the RAV. Will is in ther process of properly boxing and storing all his remaining 205 stock, so giz a shout if you need owt. With new arrivals imminent, something else had to go. Next out of the field, the Escrot: It had welded itself to the turf, so the tractor was called into service. Seconds after I took that picture, we nearly tipped the bloody rig over - a proper sphincter twitcher! My old man had left the tractor bucket full of gravel and I didn't know where he wanted it, so we left it there while we dragged the shitbox out. Will spent a couple hours stripping a few bits off, but it was nasty to work on, so he got fed up and hooked it up ot the Samaratat for his first solo A-framing adventure. And ready for off... ...to be continued elsewhere... it was indeed an adventure. So the Escort had gone, we've saved a few bits, light 'n' stuff, but not much. Volvo 850, Rover R8 214 and Swift-shaped Justy still here. Coming soon: a very much more 'Autoshite' breaker.
skattrd Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I don't think Wills first solo A-framing mission went too well judging by the pics on facebook ... we await the details
explosive-cabbage Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I don't think Wills first solo A-framing mission went too well judging by the pics on facebook ... we await the details Say that again!

Spring tops over the top of the tyres is normal.Desirable even, you can only fit 14inch alloys with snow tyres if you have non-GTi shocks. I have a set of shocks from XS you can have for beer tokens, should fit straight on and be a little stiffer.Thats if you still want them a year on
Mr_Bo11ox Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I had this idea once about attempting to graft some struts from a 205 XS into a maestro to make the maestro drive less like an offcut of MDF, I wonder if it would be possible. I'd be up for paying a couple of beer tokens for the struts for one of those 'just in case' situations./
Rover414 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 KJ, do you still have the R8? Looking for some bits for my one that weren't so good on my donor, sent you a PM a few weeks back not sure if it got there.
