The Mrs Ramrod Update Thread

Great to hear mate.

I put a patio chair in the walk-in shower this evening. Mrs reports she feels sooooooooooooooo much better for being able to shower at last! Wheeled her as far as I could in her chair, then she shuffled the rest of the way holding onto the wall and whatever else she could reach, including me. She's been using her zimmer too. Physio tomorrow, that should be fun...

Good luck for tomorrow mate. Sounds like she is slowly trying to get back her independence.

All very encouraging news Eddie, great to hear she's doing so well.

Oh dear me, seems I didn't put in an update about the physio, thought I did. Probably in the Grin thread then...

Meanwhile, we have my stepson here for a couple of days, having run the Athens Marathon on Sunday. Well done Paul! We will be taking him back to Larnaka airport tomorrow and the journey home is in daylight, so be ready for some more spotting as we come back off-motorway!

Well, this didn't slip as far as I thought, only page 5. :D

We've been back to the hospital today for more physio, the therapist is pleased. Mrs R can now walk across the room, although it's kind of a waddle more than a walk. Having had operations on both knees in the past, and injured the right one in 2004 when an Astra came out of a side road unexpectedly, she's now finding it very hard to straighten her left leg. The knee will only unbend so far. She has exercises to do to help it, so we will see. Meanwhile, she's very much feeling the cold. Cypriot houses don't have insulation as we know it, so they are hard to heat, but really, it's only like May or so in England. Even overnight our temps are still in double figures. We're just acclimatised now, so after the long hot summer this does feel really chilly.

Glad theres more progress Ed, all the best mate, hope improvement continues.

Good news there. She sounds a real fighter there Eddy.

Glad to hear that the Mrs is coming along so well Eddy !

As can already be seen everyone wishes yourself and her the best of luck

Yes, it's done me a lot of good, seeing all the support we have here. Thank you, everyone, for the messages. Much appreciated, I can tell you!

Good news there, keep us informed!

Glad to hear she is coming along nicely .. hopefully the Yorkies have helped speed her along :D

Oh and make sure the Wheelchairs have the requisite Autoshite stickers on em .

Posted

Never mind her*, the Yorkies have helped ME! I had the last one last night. Many thanks! :D

As for stickering-up the wheelchair... she's not going to wear that, I'm afraid. I'll probably end up tagging my briefcase or something! Did that before; for some years I used a secondhand hard-shell case wearing an anti-drink/driving sticker that I put on it.

*Yorkies are "Not For Girls" as we all know....

Any updates on the progress of our honorary auntie?

Yes! :D And apologies: I failed to spot the request. OK, in the last week or so Mrs R has asked me to dismantle the wheelchair ramp, as she doesn't feel she needs it now. I call that progress! Obviously I've complied, we now have our back steps back. Also, the other day we went for a ride out, with Memphis, thinking of walking her on the beach. We ended up at the latest shipwreck to litter our coastline...

...from where Mrs R walked some distance to a bench, and back to the pickup. She's using a stick (one that belonged to my dad, covered in souvenir badges :D ) but I'm not worried about that.

What's the story with the ship?

Posted

Engines failed on a stormy night before Christmas, and it was blown inshore where it struck the rocks. There's some debate at the moment about whether it'll be refloated or not. Not many miles away is another one that ran aground in similar circumstances back in 98 or so; it's been stripped and filled with concrete, and is a handy landmark when you're flying in! Our coastline is treacherous!

Good news all round*, is good to hear. Long may it continue. :D

Great news about our Auntie Ramrod!

If that ship ran aground in the Mersey it would of been stripped down into Transit pick up with a cage sized proportions and found it's way into Nortons Metals yard by sunrise.

:lol::lol::lol:

Yes, I know, I'm from Southport! You can't get a ship that close because of the gentle shelving of the beach, you'd run aground long before you met actual land. Over here, there's a bit of a shelf, but it's quite narrow and suddenly goes pretty deep, encouraging ships to hug the shore as they pass. Except this is what then happens!

Posted

I'd quite like to see pics of the ship stripped and filled with concrete. :D

It's a bit further off shore, don't think my zoom is really good enough, but I'll see if I can get one for you... I think it's called the St George, or something similar.

So, having made a special detour to a handy beach:

You see what I meant about further offshore! That was maximum zoom. The ship is stuck on a rock outcrop.

In other news, we had a little outing to the harbour area today, which Mrs R enjoyed.

Little update... Mrs R is now walking fairly reliably using a stick. Most days she takes Memphis for a little walk, about a quarter of the walk I give her later. She noticed a few weeks ago her hair was falling out, doctor suggested it was down to her thyroid and adjusted her meds, which appears to have helped. Being able to get warm would help too! Cypriot houses are not well-known for their insulation.

I should mention, by the way, that the Tea Fund has cheered her up considerably, as it has me. She sends her appreciation to everyone who has contributed. Thank you all, from both of us.
