Cavcraft Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 1993 Audi 80TDi: A strange orange-ish light came on the dashboard today (not the ECU and didn't look like a glow plug light), the car coasted to a halt and then wouldn't start for a hile but was turning over fine.Had a quick look under the bonnet, couldn't see anything amiss so tried again and it fired up and got me back home. Sod's law says the light won't come on with the ignition or when running so I can't describe the icon on the light.Fair to assume it's something to do with the fuel or fuel filter? It's been running on 'proper' diesel since I've had it bar one trial of (new) veg oil a while back now and that was only a handful of litres.I think the light was the centre left one as you look at the clocks, unfortunately Google has let me down with images or manuals so not a clue.Would be very grateful if any could tell me what the light is likely to ne and the problem that caused it to come on.Cheers in advance.
Rocket88 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Sounds like fuel filter....it usually means water in fuel.
Cavcraft Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks, I'll get another fuel filter and see what happens.
cort16 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Is it the generic check engine light? I could just be indicating that there's a fault and you'll need to get the code read to find out what it means.
Cavcraft Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 It wasn't the EML light (or that sort of 'Nurburgring circuit lookalike' thing), that's a seperate bulb and seems to be working fine. Cheers for the suggestion though, junior works in a garage so I'll see if he can connect up to the FCR tomorrow.
andrew e Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 This isn't old enough to have a thumbwheel type water drain/trap under the filter has it? Daft question air filter isn't like a hoover bag either?
ashmicro Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 If it's got a pukka fuel filter fitted, there should be a little plastic cap on the arrse of it to let the water out. My neighbour had a 1992 one and it need this done.
Barry Cade Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Its the Drehzhalumgeratevorhalnstossdampfer I'm afraid. Refer to dealer.
