Anybody interested in old campervans

Yep, I have a 1984 Transit 100L, long wheel base, high roof. Although its not technically a camper, yet! Its part way through conversion to a camper. It started life as a standard panel van, and was sold new to the BBC who had it converted into a mobile broadcasting vehicle/ sound studio type thing. So it already has nice windows etc and even a small opening sky light! Most of the sound gear was removed from it when it was retired a couple of years ago, but what was left was stripped out and sold. We are now re building the interior to suit its new role as camper.

The van has only ever been owned by the BBC and was supplied by Ford special vehicle orders, it still has the stickers in the door shuts. It has been stored indoors its entire life and has only got 18K on the clock. It still has its original tyres on the front too! Something I really need to change! Its like new underneath and has never had any welding, save for four round plates I welded in to fill some holes left from some large cable trunking that ran from side to side under the back. It was waxoyled from new aswell so that probably helped to protect it.

It has a 2.0 pinto engine, which pulls suprisingly well for the size of the van! I expected it to be pretty shit in that respect but it seems fine! Hopefully it will be ready for use by next summer.

I've a couple, both off the road though.

I've owned a bay window van since before they were trendy/hip/expensive...

We've just got back from Cornwall where the awning blew down in a force 8 gale.

You can't beat taking enough stuff to fill a van & an awning & then just having a van...

Cramped barely covers it, but its the dogs bollocks.

Owned 15 years & very unlikely to be sold.

mmm, that pic seems to have posted very big, try this as a link instead - http://www.e-tow.co.uk/Contact%20E-tow_ ... age003.jpg

Here is my old camper. 5.2 litre V8 petrol. Hence dont do many miles in it.

That's cooler than a polar bear ball bag.

That does look smart. The interior is wonderfully 80's.

The neighbours love me.

I had a similar problem a few years back.

My mate whose 101 it is gave it to a farmer to store about 4 years ago but never actually paid him so I assume its either been sold on or crushed. He is too scared to even ring they guy up.

It's safe, and still there! He just needs to find the cash to get it released - not that much in all honesty!

Really? Cool. I was thinking we maybe ring the chap up and say we were going through Jacks possessions after he died and realised he still had the truck in storage. Thankfully nothing that dramatic needs to be done.

Have you got any pictures? This sounds really interesting, I like seeing as 'new' cars/vans, stuff thats really been well looked after.

I have a few, need to take some more though really to try to keep a photographic history of the rebuild.

This is part of the inside, this is a Chilton mixer desk that was fitted to these vans. Its the same age as the van and apparantly pretty rare. I sold it to a guy from Belgium not long ago!! For a very nice price too!

Ill try to get some better pics of it at some point and make a build thread.

Its really solid and looks good though, the trick will be keeping it that way!
