Never Go Out Without Your Camera

Two days of spotting, on the trot! How about that!

100_2671-vi.jpg

I thought my mate Neil's Mazda would go down well here, I'd just been talking to him in the supermarket! Then I turned around and spotted this...

100_2672-vi.jpg

A bit later I walked Memphis down to the vet's and this burbled slowly past us; slow enough that I could drag out the camera!

Cracking shots as always Eddy! BG went down well here as you might expect ;)

Posted

Thanks... I do believe it's the first time I've heard it called that. Live and learn, etc...

Is it me or do they look like Mk1 Vauxhall Astra steelies?

BTW Eddy - You havent managed to see that Mk1 800 by any chance?:oops:

Posted

Haven't seen it for a while Mo, but I am looking, it'll turn up. I've found a Mk2 that looks like it's been laid up; I'll try to get a snap of that too when a suitable occasion presents itself.

After what I said about 80s Mazdas in another thread... today I saw 3 on my travels, and only one was in a position suitable for a snap.

100_2704-vi.jpg

This was after I'd been down on the coastal strip again, where the roadside sales pitch had some fresh stock...

100_2696-vi.jpg

100_2697-vi.jpg

100_2698-vi.jpg

100_2699-vi.jpg

^These things are spectacular in their ugliness!

100_2701-vi.jpg

100_2700-vi.jpg

100_2702-vi.jpg

This one was in Lidl's car park...

100_2703-vi.jpg

...and yes, you really can see the sea in the distance! :D

Some from Andreas's garage now; first, a couple coming up to completion.

100_2694-vi.jpg

100_2688-vi.jpg

(That's him driving the Landy...)

And one that was in-and-out...

100_2681-vi.jpg

I'm not well-up on my utility Citroens, but have this anyway:

100_2682-vi.jpg

Grab shot as I was driving, and on a junction.

Walking in and around my village gives us these:

100_2683-vi.jpg

Mazda 929 was sitting behind a dealership for a while; that closed and it's turned up outside another one, one I have to walk past to get to the vet's! Speaking of which...

100_2687-vi.jpg

This is what used to be their "van." It seems to have been replaced now, by a Honda HRV. So the little Seat just sits round the back with all the other junk from the half-dozen shops in the block, not to mention staff cars, even the occasional customer vehicle.

100_2695-vi.jpg

Renault van sits on the main road through the village, bang across from the village office where I pay my water bill. Never seen it move.

Some more Mazdas...

100_2709-vi.jpg

100_2707-vi.jpg

OK, think I've hammered enough hell out of that point.

A couple of shabby old nails parked up on the seafront...

100_2705-vi.jpg

100_2706-vi.jpg

They were only yards apart, in the same parking bay. I was across the road buying ice-creams, it seemed rude not to snap these!

100_2708-vi.jpg

Andreas told me he used to build Mini convertibles, a few years ago. This could easily be one of them. I should probably ask him...

Random 405 for the 405 pervs...

100_2710-vi.jpg

I never see this one move. Check out the coating of dust, and the crap that's built up around it.

And finally, one for Paykan Hunter.

100_2726-vi.jpg

We've seen this one before but as I was in that section of Andreas's yard today I thought we'd have a fresh angle on it.

Let's close off the square-cut Mazdas with a driveby shot...

100_2736-vi.jpg

And on another stretch of road not far away...

100_2731-vi.jpg

Note the damage. The other day an artic turned over, blocking this road. Poor ole Brit-plated Cargo took the impact. I don't believe I've seen it move in three years and I imagine it'll sit there, scarred, for a while yet. Another truck and a car were involved; thankfully no major injuries AFAIK. But this is the B7, a main road in/out of Paphos, and it was totally blocked until the artic was moved.

Couple of Mercs at our club event on Sunday:

100_2728-vi.jpg

The ladies "belong" with the cars: Barbara, in the white shorts, goes with the W123; Marilyn, in the black top, goes with the 220 SEB. 8)

Lord Sterling, one for you!

100_2738-vi.jpg

I promised you a laid-up Mk2, here it is. And some more from the same garage...

100_2737-vi.jpg

100_2739-vi.jpg

100_2741-vi.jpg

Some random on-street stuff...

100_2727-vi.jpg

I quite like the look of this generation of Hyundai Coupe. Anyone know anything bad about them?

100_2730-vi.jpg

Lush!

100_2732-vi.jpg

Don't know why, but in the last few weeks I've seen quite a lot of Xsaras about. I'm sure they weren't around before!

100_2735-vi.jpg

420 SEC on Brit plates...

And we'll wind up our tour at Andreas's garage again.

100_2734-vi.jpg

When he had this Moke in for painting I failed to get a shot of it finished. It's back for some other work so I grabbed it.

100_2744-vi.jpg

We robbed the engine out of this poor old Metro, months and months ago. For a Mini. Sorry everyone! It'll probably die in the coming cull this summer.

And finally today, a story. We don't have satellite TV, we get our channels by cable, from the phone provider (package with broadband too). A few weeks ago they added some channels, lovely; then rearranged them to new numbers, and we couldn't get half of them any more! So eventually I complained, they sent an engineer round, then another one, and finally replaced both my set-top box and modem. Lovely, we have the channels back. As a test I looked at a Cypriot sport channel and found some rally coverage. Late 80s Galants, Samaras... hello, thought I, this is interesting even if I don't understand the commentary. On one stage there was a Talbot Sunbeam parked up, presumably where it had broken down, looking for all the world like an old picture of this...

100_2415-vi.jpg

...which I know you've seen before, bear with me.

Right at the end there was a shot of a Mk2 Escort which I thought looked familiar. I asked Andreas about this rally. "Dyonisos Rally, 1994? Yes, that was in Paphos, I had a 205." Seems he was well up the field after the first three stages, then crashed out. And the Escort?

100_2743-vi.jpg

Yep, in his yard.

Posted

Brillaint stuff Eddy! Thank for getting the mk2. It looks like an 820SLi sort of high-ish spec 2.0.

Posted

Would've had a few good pics to upload from today...had I charged up my bloody phone...

GREEN GODDESS FIRE ENGINE. For sale at Albert looms's scrapyard in Derby. £2750 for MoT exemption and looked to be in good fettle.

VAUXHALL CHEVETTE. 4 door saloon in orange on a 'V' plate. In the yard for parts - in a sad state.

VW GOLF MK2 SYNCHRO / COUNTRY. Assumed to be the pride and joy of a fellow pilfferer. LHD on a 'G' plate - oversized 'off road' bumpers, increased ride height, chunky tyres - assumed it was all original. Was in stunning condition and unmolestered by any dickhead dubbers....yet. Hate VAG's but this was very nice.

DELOREAN. Spotted in my rearview as I headed back to Nottingham on the A52. Thought it was a 70's Lancia at first 'til they got closer. Slowed down to 50mph to let them overtake...I doubt they'd be flying with that Volvo / Renault V6. Last seen heading for the M1.

A surreal trip - especially as it was only a 12 mile round trip. Lots of good spots around here - must get snapping.

Yeah, you must! A picture paints a thousand words, they say.

Time for a few more spots....

100_2751-vi.jpg

Pre-Proton Mitsubishi was at my local supermarket, as was...

100_2752-vi.jpg

Lancia and...

100_2753-vi.jpg

Mafia-boss Merc.

Been after a snap of this Volvo for a couple of weeks...

100_2762-vi.jpg

Bonus Daihatsu too!

100_2763-vi.jpg

Renault is ex-plod...

And here's another of the many Mokes in Paphos!

100_2770-vi.jpg

A stroll with my dog brings me to this, which I see often...

100_2775-vi.jpg

I think it's a late one.

Helping hands...

100_2777-vi.jpg

The owner of the white Stag hasn't had it long and didn't know how to put the top down, so I collared the owner of the blue one at a club meeting, to help him. Wife says I interfere....

100_2793-vi.jpg

Note the sticker in the windscreen of this VW. Did the Beeb really use these?

100_2794-vi.jpg

My favourite shape of Hyundai Coupe, and I think the best colour too.

These are at another supermarket, by the way.

Now in my friend Andreas's yard... we cleared some shrubbery and started finding more cars!

100_2799-vi.jpg

Fiat 127 has been there a long while, most of the roof has rotted away.

100_2809-vi.jpg

Mercedes tanker just looked very tidy; I saw it out and about the following day.

Honda didn't!

100_2810-vi.jpg

I towed this to another garage.

This:

100_2812-vi.jpg

belongs to White Stag Man, he has a motorbike shop.

I spotted this while I was towing the Honda!

100_2813-vi.jpg

Good to see a ZX still earning its keep.

And finally today...

100_2800-vi.jpg

Dragged out of the scenery at Andreas's, this is the next rally car. This one already has a Pinto installed.

Does Andreas's yard just go on to infinity? If you wish for something hard enough, and get clearing, will it turn up? Looks like a fun place, tho'. Love the pic of the old Merc, it looks well.

Does Andreas's yard just go on to infinity?

:D Not really, it just seems like that some days. You seriously can cut your way though a thicket and find a handful of forgotten autos... not forgotten by Andreas though, he can tell you the story of every single car. Two years ago he had a big cull, 100 cars went to scrap. We are now gearing up for another one, there's talk of the first batch of 10 or so going this week, or next week at the latest. He's realised he is getting swamped, and needs to make some space. NOS FSO parts? Come to me first!

You can forget the Ford stuff though, he's keeping that... he has at least a dozen two-door Escorts, Mk1 and 2, all of which will make rally cars.

Something interesting: a couple of times I've asked him about this car or that, and his reply is, that car can not be put back on the road in Cyprus, it must be broken up or exported. Any of those will obviously be restoration projects after they land, but shipping isn't as expensive as I thought it might be...

You could become his UK agent when you move back here. A nice 10% commission on each car you sell for him in GB. :)

Of course Jon; or even anything slightly related! I won't let stuff like that go until you've seen a photo, don't worry. And maybe put your name on something. I've been round the field quite a bit though and haven't found an Amazon yet, so don't go getting your hopes up too high....

A few more, watch out for the slight flavour of garlic...

100_2816-vi.jpg

We'll go straight into the rosbif with a Leyland Buffalo.

100_2820-vi.jpg

This is in Andreas's yard, apparently it's a genuine Mk1 GTi.

100_2826-vi.jpg

A little sushi to cleanse the palate!

100_2827-vi.jpg

I did promise you garlic; have a little more!

100_2824-vi.jpg

And finally, a little novelty. Where exactly would Sir like his spoiler?
