Couldn't tell you Albert. And besides - I'm already in big trouble for showing you some nice pictures.

If you definitely want some bx hinges, I know we have a scrapper estate in the field at work, along with a shit load of NOS parts from 2cvs through to BXs.

We've also got a load of stainless steel exhausts for GS/GSAs that we had made when they were still common.

Drop me a message if you want any info.

Hi all

Im a bit of a Citroen and alsorted autoshite fan and indirectly know of the owner of the cars in this thread and i have to ask do any of you rent a house? would you be happy if while you were down the pub the landlord decided it would be fine to take some random with a camera on a guided tour of your house snapping away at your personal possesions and then find the piccies up online? would you aso be happy if vandalism and mass theft of your property was also an issue and you found this thread?. If anything its the plonker of a landlord to blame here and not the op at all but you have to understand what has been done here. In the words of Mr F Gump thats all i have to say about that.

Might stick an intro up later and do this properly but i just had to say my bit gents.

Thanks

The chap that owns this hoard lives very local to me..has always got a miriad of xms cx,s and xantias on the road. That barn must indeed have quite a dust problem as the xantia activa with the reg was on the road a few months back...hes got about 2 other activa's as well! I did leave a note on one of his cars as regards to whether he would have a spare cx bonnet for my friend who eventually bought Dollywobblers old CX estate but got no response so i guess he keeps everything!! :D

There's a bloke on here wants them..... Not me, but I thought I'd bring it up on his behalf. No doubt he'll read this, and answer you! I just bloody forgot WHO it is.... senior moment.

Well, I guess thread deletion time - mods?

Apologies to all who need them....

Well, the way I see it, you got an invite from the landlord. I'm not sure you've done anything wrong, or that any of us would not have done. Furthermore, I've found some useful contacts because of this thread! You can't stop people taking photos of your cars. We've seen lots of 'outrage' from some people, but I wouldn't delete this thread (or maybe just those specific pics) unless the person who owns the cars actually asks you to do so. That'd be fair enough.

What he said. Can't see anything to apologise for tbh, despite what our new on-line solicitor seems to think.

Why don't we have a page where we draw pictures of the cars we saw, and then get everyone else to sit in a semi-circle while we tell stories about them? Then let's go and flog ourselves with birches for daring to share.

Sitting in semi-circles followed by beating ourselves with birch twigs? FANTASTIC!! Would we all be naked? Maybe a sauna or perhaps a hot tub as well? Beer and sausages to consume as we go along, followed by plunge pool to cool off!

Sorry, I appear to have inadvertently stumbled onto an inappropriate website! Where is my "webmaster notification" warning?

Maybe binhoker could delete the pics and replace them with pastel drawings of what he saw, like those sketches of courtroom scenes on the news.

Oooh. There's a new game. Photofit car spotting. No, the nose was more like a Mk1 Sierra, but the doors were Nissan Bluebird. And it was a double decker, with 7 wheels. Etc. Maybe.

I can sort of sympathise if the location was put on an internet forum especially as I'm in negotiations over a tat workshop and storage facility on the Wirral. When the facility is up and running, hopefully at the beginning of next month, you can rest assured that there'll be a D-Notice issued on its location.

Nice photos of some sexy Citroens by the OP there.

Where abouts on the Wirral are we moving to Warren? Pm me if you like!

How odd, I was literally just re-reading about that place in a 1997 issue of C&SC. Is that a recent-ish video then, it looks like hardly anything has changed since '97 if it is.

I think the article was published in Yorkshire Post in April 2010.

Since then part of the roof has collapsed (not directly over the vehicles) as a result of woodworm/wet or dry rot.

Stone flags have been removed so vehicles are on soil.

Shame.

but often hoards are like that - and as an ex-hoarder of bubblecars, I know - you have so much stuff that you never spend the time on the ones you have. Any that are on the road take up all the time required to restore some of the others.

I recommend a maximum of six vehicles for anyone (and I still have thirteen or so) as this gives you both time and money to spend on them all - whereas hoards like that just deteriorate over time.

I wouldn't say no to the scootacar and Nobel though. What other microcars does he have - spotted a Bond 875 Mk2, Heinkel Trojan and Trabbie plus invacar and a couple I couldn't quite make out. I think there's a fiat 500 too plus what are the rear ends propped up at 1.10s - three of them?

Edit to say he has a Peel Trident too.

Well said!

I was enjoying reading this thread, being a citroen perv, until I came across a number of posts by new members who have obviously drifted over from a Citroen Forum, haven't read the thread properly and are now "SHAKING WITH RAGE" at the audacity of the OP.

several points:

1/ how is this in any way offensive? The OP asked the farmer permission to take a few snaps and showed good manners by not asking to see more. The OP hasn't disclosed the location, nor was he aware that the cars didn't belong to the farmer and the4 sheds were leased by your friend.

2/ The OP clearly had no idea of the identity of the owner, as most of us have no idea who he is (or care for that matter)

3/ How the hell was the OP meant to know that the and collection would be 'easily identifiable' as belonging to a member of a citroen forum? By the same token I'd better not put up a photo of the rust on my new Subaru as it might be rude to a person who owned the car 3 years ago and who is registered on a forum which I don't know even exists?????!!??

4/ The fact that several members here have expressed their dissaproval about one individual hoarding a number of rare and sought after cars is niether here nor there - it is their opinion and they are entitled to it just as the owner is entitled to hoard the cars if he so wishes. The fact that he is a 'guru' doesn't make him immune to critisism and your reaction to this critisism as some sort of blaspmeny is ridiculous. What is more, the OP didn't express that opinion and is not reesponsible for the thougts and posts of other members.

5/ Are you sure you are not members of the Volvo Owners club because your reaction and behaviour is what I would expect to find over there.

and finally

6/ welcome to our forum but if you're first posts are going to be to sanctimoniously sit in judgement of another member of this site then you are really not welcome. We have our occassional spats over here but on the whole we get on pretty well because we like old/shit/interesting cars, if you can't see that the OP was well intentioned in sharing an interest with us then I suggest you piss off back to the Citroen forum and post many threads about how 'that Autoshite forum is full of wankers who dare to suggest that one of our members, who we all think of as a guru, has been critisised by people who don't know him and are unlikely to ever know him but it is a good opportunity for us to have somthing to be angry about".

You are like that character in the Harry Enfield programme who sat in the pub with his mate winding himself up about little things:

"...but if the OP was to be on holiday on a farm when he inadvertantly spotted some interesting old cars and asked the farmer if he could see them. And if that farmer, showed him the cars despite the fact that they belonged to his tenant even though the OP diidn't know that. And if the OP then, subsequently decided to share those photos with his mates on the web then I would say. OI! OP! NO! WHILST YOU MAY HAVE BEEN STAYING ON THE FARM AND HAVE INADVERTANTLY SPOTTED THE CARS AND, ASKED THE FARMER, WHO YOU ASSUMED OWNED THEM, TO HAVE A LOOK YOU HAD NO BUSINESS TO DO SO AS THESE CARS BELONGED TO SOMONE ELSE AND THE FARMER HAD NO BUSINESS SHOWING YOU THEM BUT EVEN THOUGH YOU QUITE REASONABLY ASSUMED THEY WERE HIS CARS YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT EVERY POSSIBLE POSSIBILITY AND REALISED THAT THE FARMER MIGHT HAVE ACTUALLY BEING SHOWING YOU CARS HE WAS NOT ENTITLED TO SHOW YOU - THIS IS CLEARLY YOUR FAULT - YOU ARE RESPONSBLE FOR THE FARMER'S BEHAVIOUR. ON TOP OF THAT ,OP, YOU THEN DECIDED TO POST PICTURES OF THESE CARS ON THE INTERNET IN THE CLEAR KNOWLEDGE THAT THE PICTURES MIGHT BE IDENTIFIABLE TO THE HALF DOZEN OR SO CITROEN GEEKS WHO ALSO KNOW OF THE BARN AND YOU ARE TOTALLY OUT OF ORDER INVADING THE OWNER OF THE CARS PRIVACY BY NOT CONSIDERING THAT NOT ONLY MIGHT THE CARS HAVE NOT BELONGED TO THE FARMER BUT THAT OTHERS WHO KNOW THE TENANT MIGHT BE ABLE TO RECOGNISE THE CARS FROM THE PHOTOS AND YOU SHOULD NOW APOLOGISE PUBLICALLY ON A FORUM THAT THE TENANT IS A MEMBER OF FOR NOT BEING A FUCKING PSYCHIC. ON TOP OF THIS YOUR POST THEN ENCOURAGES SOME MEMBERS OF THE AUTOSHITE FORUM TO EXPRESS AN OPINION ABOUT THE ETHICS OF HOARDING RARE CARS - ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS YOUR FALUT AS YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE, UNIQUELY, FOR THEIR BEHAVIOURS AS WELL AND BECAUSE OF THAT SHOULD, WITHOUT DELAY, COME TO THE CITOREN FORUM AND KISS OUR ARSES WHILST CONFESSING YOUR MANY SINS AND YOU WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN AND IN FUTURE WILL LIMIT ALL THREADS THAT YOU START TO DETAILED WRITTEN DESCRIPTIONS OF THE PHOTOS YOU HAVE TAKEN JUST IN CASE YOU UPSET SOMONE BECAUSE YOU DID NOT USE ESP TO ENSURE THAT YOU WOULDN'T UPSET THE OWNER OF THE OBJECTS OF THE PICTURES, EVEN THOUGH WE DON'T KNOW IF HE IS UPSET AND HAVE DECIDED TO GET UPSET ON HIS BEHALF AND DEMAND AN APOLOGY ON HIS BEHALF EVEN THOUGH THE ALLEGED OFFENDED PARTY IS AN ADULT IN HIS OWN RIGHT AND PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF EXPRESSING HIS OWN OPINIONS AND IF YOU DO IT AGAIN YOU ARE GOING TO GET A S.. L.. A.. P...":evil::evil::evil::evil::evil::x:x:x:x

If the owner of the vehicles, who, unless one of you are he, is that cheesed off with this alleged invasion of his privace tHen I suggest that he speaks to his landlord about it! The invasion of his privace is in the farmer showing the OP his tenant's property without the permission of the tenant. The OP is a 3rd party in this matter and if you have such an issue with it and feel that you have to fight the owner's battles for him, then I suggest you seek out the farmer and get hm to apologise to his tenant...alternatively you could ask yourself why the whole issue is only that that because of you being a busybody...you don't read the Daily Mail by any chance?

Has anyone noticed that OP didn't give any information as to who the owner was or where exactly the location was, only the 'newcomers'; I wouldn't have been able to identify anyone or anywhere from the photos :?

Psychic hoard spotting threads?

I'll start....

That sounds a brilliant idea. Next Sunday, I will go for a walk and unexpectedly find a barn stuffed with old Citroens, Tagoras and Lancia Gammas. Having had the foresight () to take my camera with me , I will be posting pictures of them on Monday :)

I need a turd but, unlike the OP, my psychic powers tell me that if I lay one now then it will get caught up in the water company's daily dodgey 'overflow' of raw sewage into the Forth. It will then end up being eaten by a windsurfer down the coast, who, on returning to his car and seeing the odd smelling stain on his chin will vomit part digested toalie all over his car. My powers will allow me to work out where he lives and write a letter of apology perhaps including a Book Token as a gesture of contrition. However, far better not to get into the situation in the first place, I'll squeeze the cheeks for an hour or so and ease pressure by letting a few cheesers escape...I can blame them on the dog.

I think things like Nigel's church really do give enthusiasts a bad name. It's getting on for being similar to banger racing in that these cars are just rotting in a damp church rather than being restored or even just used. I agree that a limit is a good idea on the number of cars. I'm struggling to keep on top of the five we own.

The paperwork itself is a nightmare these days. The main reason why I have cut the fleet back is the paperwork and cost of the insurance etc.

I don't have a huge issue with folk hoarding cars espeically if the cars are rare, and the alternative is weighing them in. But if I had a hoard of restoration projects (rather than mothballed roadworthy cars) I would always consider offers to buy if I was certain it was going to a good home. What usually happens is that the hoard gets beyond the pockets of the well intentioned hoard and when he croaks/sells or loses the storage, the cars are often either beyond hope or end up being crushed anyway.

My personal opinion of this chap's citroens (and it is MY opinion, NOT the OPs and he is in no way responsible for my opinion and if you don't agree wit ne then please address your issue to me rather than to him) is hats off for saving and storing the cars BUT if a bona fide buyer wanted to restore it then he should sell it if comfortable that it is going to a good home. Cars sat in any atmosphere other than a controlled, warm, dry and dehumidified one fall to bits and the ones in this barn are not only mostly unprotected from the dust but have large amounts of crap piled on them. His motives were ,of course, best intentioned but there comes a point when you become a contributor to the destruction of exactly what you were trying to save in the first place.

Still, a church full of old cars... heaven. Only if I could afford a team of private mechanics/autoshiters as well.

I can kinda see both sides of this coin.

As a long time hoarder- this is what happened to one of my 3 barns 6 weeks after I showed it to a 'friend' (A Policeman) who had been pleading with me to see them.. it wasnt him, it wasnt his son -but it was a friend of his family.

torched_motors_003.jpg

I've a lot in store,& keep around 15-20 cars at home. I've just finished rebuilding that shed-on that footprint, encompassing substantive amendments enabling me to double the number therein, keep a seperate floor for other stuff, and ease their movement around. Its taken several years, but the other cars are currently being moved in/around, freeing up the other 2 barns for similar refurb.

I've learnt a few leassons about 'storage'. I thought i had been doing it right- but i'd missed a few tricks, and several have suffered. For example, I was staggered by the amount of rust my Alfas had developed -despite being dry, having a through draft, off the ground, exhaust sealed & sprayed with old oil. Wasnt enough for them -although it was sufficient for nearly everything else. I've since sold all the Alfa's - reluctantly accepting that they just dont store.

I've learnt that Renting doesnt work-except perhaps for Council lockups. Where several+ vehicles are involved, & despite every assurance -landlords WILL do something to alienate the tenant. It could be restrictions on movement/work, daft rent increases, sticking his nose in, showing his friends around -whatever. The law seems to allow them free rein -and most get greedy. In my experience, the relationship will fail -and there will be recrimination. Its not easy -keeping a collection

Paperwork. You think keeping on top of a few cars is difficult? Try my DVLA inbox. I keep on top using a Sasco year planner, a 4 drawer filing cabinet & a computer programme.

The problem of usage is another issue -the ones 'at the back' are often there for good. So a way of easy(ish) access becomes a priority -hopefully resolved. My current intention is to extract more, more often, quicker turn around than previous. Time will tell I guess.

However- I am pleasantly suprised by the majority that are emerging -blinking into the sunlight for the first time in very many years. Most are virtually as 'laid up', and if needed, are started/ driving within 1/2 hour. A few have given minor issues -but most have moved into their new accomodation with very little issue -and have been reinterred -to a higher standard, with easier access. Once the whole process is complete - I may take a few non identifiable pics for here.

My cars were/ are all bought for a low relative value. At some stage every car is near worthless- and is often close to scrap. Most 'collectors' buy at this stage- often saving it from immediate destruction. That they then put it away for later restoration simply saves it for better times, and to decry those doing so is wrong. They had the foresight -you didnt. There are plenty of late 90's car out there now, for pennies that someone will be putting away -yet may well get lambasted in 20 years for 'hoarding'.

My collection is huge -and to the uninitiated, seems daft. However, they still exist -which most wouldnt have. Some I got wrong, and their ''value'' hasn't risen -some are too valuable for me to use. Some my wife wont let me use.. Whatever, hopefully-they'll boost my pension in years to come.

My message? Mixed. If I could trust people -I'd be happy to show you all. But I cant, & since i dont know who i can -no one (bar3) gets in there.

Have I got cars racked up? yes -but you had the same opportunity as I did to buy them.

Why dont I use them? I do -as some here can testify. My wife & I dont run anything more modern than 1995, yet cover some 50-60,000 miles each pa. I think nothing of driving 60's cars onto the continent, for work, and till recently my tow cars were all early 80's saloons.

So -dont knock collectors. They do a good job under difficult circumstances. its onerous -and can be heart breaking.

Posted

I have the bug still - I know the pitfalls, I agree with everything everyone has said.

Some of us want one perfect old car, others want numerous and they can live with them not being perfect.

Sometimes a car is so rare that if you don't buy it now, you may never find another - I have a Mochet and a berkeley tucked away for my retirement in twenty odd years.

Whatever your thoughts, how many cars like Andy's or Nigel's would still be around in one piece if they hadn't bought them? Not many, I guess.
