That is indeed a fabulous thing. One used to show up at Ye Olde Fort Road Friday night drag races (binhoker might remember them)

I had a dream last night I still had mine, and it still didn't work. Great cars, but now entered the realm of 'OMG RETRO J-tin' so therefore overpriced by about 2 grand.

Those wheels are lush, must be one of the nicest set of standard wheels on any car.

They look so much better without the flared arches, I think.

Agreed! They look amazing in 'narrow' flavour.

Also agreed, these and the quite similar wheels fitted to the Celica Supra of the same era

This is the one i saw at the weekend, the owner has owned it for 21 years now and has just finished restoring it.

He thinks it's one of the very first ones registered in the county, when he wrote to Mitsubishi UK to ask about it's history they wrote back saying that don't have any record but would he like to sell it back to them!.

The early ones are very heavily based on the Galant/Sapporo - both of which had equally fast turbo versions using the same 2.0 engine, but seem absurdly obscure by comparison.

Im lucky to own 3 of these cars, 2 widebody 2.0 turbos and a 2.6 widebody turbo. They are utterly fantastic cars, great long distance cruisers with good power and handling. Sadly a very rare sight on the roads now :(

The first one has the wheels off the rear of a widebody, they're 9 inches wide.

The widebody had completely different suspension, axle and differential to the narrowbody, I would've thought they'd just hammer the NB stuff out a bit.

Did the very early ones use the Sapporo/Galant rear beam, they had independent McPherson struts all round on the later versions.

The worst thing about these is you'll be spending weeks trying get hold of parts if anything goes - I spent a grand in a week in Mitsubishi in Queensferry on various bits. :( The engine/fuelling/coolant system needs to be in A1 condition or it'll never run ever.
