VAUXHALL / OPELS AT BILLING SUNDAY 03/07/2011

Wow, correct wheel choice really does make or break a Vauxhall doesn't it? The Astras on multispokes - Ew! Kudos for the guy with the turquoise Merit obtaining a colour-coded large-breasted lass to accessorise with though. Looks like a good set of motors on the whole though, Novas and Mk2 Astras are definitely on the "WTF happened to them overnight?" list.

And when did you last see a Nova van?

+1 about the wheels.

Cheers for the pic's Rootes, plenty to like there. White Mk1 GTE is interesting because I'm sure someone on a Vauxhall forum reckoned it had a VX/R engine whereas in fact it looks like a C20XE.

Black Courtney Sport Nova is the absolute sex, if only everyone back in the day made there's something like that instead of throwing nasty stick on shit at them.

What's the deal with the Irmscher wide-arched yellow Mk1? Looks pretty good, even factory? Shiny bumpers are my only gripe with it, it needs some faded grey jobbies.

The purple 'Corsa Spider' thingy has what is one of my most favourite alloy wheel designs of all time. Came from a mid 1980s Carlton CDi or the Opel Rekord equivalent. 8)

C20XE powered Nova Saloon, reg F475LVR, is undeclared to the DVLA.

No idea why I was sad enough to look that up, but uninsured drivers are still a pet hate of mine.

Anyway, great coverage, I love the Commodore GSE especially. I'm now GM blind for the rest of the evening.

It was nice to meet you today John, Sorry i can't really speak for long as that weird bloke in the shorts keep hassling me!, It's great that you took that photo of me taking a photo, I didn't know it was you at the time or i would have said hello!

My Kadett broke down on the way home, Right on the A14 i got a overwhelming smell of petrol come into the car and it cut out, i managed to cost of the road near Newmarket, opened the bonnet to find the red hot engine bay covered in fuel! After letting it cool down and calling the Green Flag i decided to see if i could fix it, It turned out the be a brass union that goes into the carb, it had blown it self out and that was what connected fuel pipe to the carb, I pushed it back on and it fired up and got us home, Result!

I've took 483 photos so give me a day or two before i upload mine!

Tell me about it, I was shitting myself on the side of the A14 with an engine bay covered in fuel, dripping on the exhaust manifold as well!

BTW I love that photo of my wife standing behind the Kadett, It makes her look special!, That wasn't long after i won my "Best pre 2000 Club car" certificate!

Never noticed the odd gearshift position on the Silver Aero before.

Vauxhall have built some crummy looking old crocks over time, but they also had some absolute stunners. I reckon the HB Viva is probably the best looking small-ish British family car, especially in 2 door or estate flavours. The FC (? - Randall and Hopkirk shape) Victors etc are also bloody handsome machines, and my love for the entire late 70s range, especially the Royale, is well documented here.

Great pics R_A, thanks for sharing.

Trig - do you get a good reaction to the Opel? I bet it was the first time a lot of people had seen one

I was supposed to be going to this today but never got round to it. Seeing all those cars with wank alloys would have pissed me off mind.

I don't get it .Really, I don't.

Don't suppose you took any pics of a nice Viscount did you?...and when I say nice, preferably without a load of Halfords tat adorning it.

Weren't you going to try and sell the Opel, Trigger? Any luck?

What a great looking show. Saw lots of top Vauxhall stuff (as well as some absolutely shit stuff) on our drive back from Cambs to Wales. Highlight was seeing a certain bright orange Kadett on the A14! This was before the scary fuel incident. Our only problem was that the rolled-back roof tried unfurling twice - second time on the M6. Grrr.

I'm in love....

Barrett, the model you are looking for is FD, and I agree with you! Nowhere near enough of these survive. Isn't the estate a particularly handsome beast!

Ah! So that was you!, I did wonder but I knew you lived in Wales so it threw me a bit, I just thought it was a 2CV'er who loved bright orange cars!, I did flash and wave back but I wasn't sure if you saw me!, It was only 15mins after this that i broke down!.

I told a few people I was thinking about it and offers over £3k would be tempting but everyone told me that I'd be an idiot for selling it and it's worth more then £3000!

After all the positive feedback from everyone who's seen it my mojo is back up with it again and i might hang on to it for a little longer, Although I'm still keep looking at other stuff!.

Also it was nice to see Mr Lobster again, An ace bloke who seemed to be doing a roaring trade in his model cars over the weekend!

Every time i close my eye's all i can hear is "Oh look it's Oliver!".

If you like GM bilge I do recommend it - its a good day out. There was a lot I did not picture due to time etc sadly.

We had a 2CV meet in Cambs, so made the trek out East. Was keeping an eye out for you, but didn't actually expect to see you!
