FBHVC Survey - take part!

They may have a touch of the 'fuddy-duddy' about them, but the FBHVC do a lot of good for classic car owners. Here's your chance to have your say via their survey. There are two surveys, one for those with pre-1981 vehicles, one for those with later classics. Guess many of us fall into the latter group!

Doesn't take long to do, but worth doing! http://fbhvc.co.uk/survey-2011/

I think the options for a car under 5k are limited on that survey!

10, Do you get laughed at by Historic Vehicle owners at car shows?

Posted

Yeah, they do seem to be focussing a bit too much on really old, very expensive stuff!

Yeah, I started doing it, but got bored about half way through and gave up. You can tell the sort of owners the FBHVC aims itself at by the classic car values listed in the drop down box.

Personally, I've had nothing to do with the FBHVC ever since it rejected owners of old cars who use them as daily transport.

I filled it in - for the 1300 Spurt. The 604 is classed as a "Future classic" and the XJR is years away from being recognised by 'em.

They'll probably be vexed that someone has dared to put a Mk2 Escort on their list.

Coo -it stops at 5. Overloaded its brain I think!

I gave up too.

It seems you need only apply if you own a 1920 Rolls Royce or something similar. I doubt they would want much to do with the owner of a tatty white French car from the 1970's!!

You people DRIVE your cars?!?!?!?!!? I prefer to look at my car standing on the road depreciating by the minute thankyouverymuch!!!!!

Tried...

But what a load of long-winded hopelessness. So far outside of the real world, it wasn't worth continuing.

You would have thought that the club would be pleased to see owners of old cars using them regularly as it keeps them in the public eye not at some show where the majority don't attend!!

I filled it in. I don't see that asking how much I spent last year on books and DVDs has much value at all. Or how much I spent on overnight accomodation at a car show.

Or whether I had the Vichy Soise soup and lobster thermodore for supper....

They do seem a bit stuck up......

It's all about showing the importance of the classic car scene to the overall economy. Helps deflect negative legislation if you can say "well, do that and it'll cost you £Xmillions." I do agree that I'd rather they supported all classics of all ages and with whatever use, but not everything you hope for actually happens.

I filled it in, every little helps. Although it definitely didn't feel like I was their target market.

How much did you spend on maintenance last year?

[_] Around £100,000

[_] More than £100,000

Where does the man who looks after your car live?

[_] In the apartment above the garage

[_] In sectioned off area of main house

Fair enough, will have another go later.

Look at it another way. It is actual fact that the vast majority of classic cars cover sod all mileage. They sit in barns and garages waiting for sunny days, which is why the FBHVC states that the average classic covers 900 miles a year. When the government eye up things like free road tax, they can see that it's not like people are driving around in older cars purely to avoid tax. That wouldn't be the case were the FBHVC to claim that people clock up thousands of miles a year in their classics (like I do, albeit mine isn't free tax).

Us folk who use classics heavily are in a minority - which I guess is why this forum doesn't have a zillion members.

As for the figures quoted, there are people spending those vast sums on cars. The top end of the market has been in hyperdrive for some time. There was a Citroen DS at the NEC last year that had been the subject of a £100k restoration. We might prefer running motors on a budget, but quite a lot don't!

I filled it in, there will probably be a couple of WTF!? How dare they  moment when they someone had dared to put in 2 Rover Sterlings as 'future classics'

Good point, hadn't thought about it like that!
